Williams to injured reserve; Hawks drop one to Canucks

Looks like Jason Williams' groin problem is not going away, as the Blackhawks placed him on injured reserve today and called up Dave Bolland from Rockford to take his place on the roster. That's a tough break because he has 19 points 20 games this year and has been one of the best Hawk forwards, but this groin strain has bothered him for a few weeks now. Hopefully he can get it healthy and get back in at some point in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks dropped a disappointing tilt last night with the Canucks, 3-2 at the United Center. Martin Havlat and Martin Lapointe were the goal scorers for the Hawks, but overall it was a weak offensive attack against a very good goalie in Roberto Luongo, and after an early 3rd period goal by Brendan Morrison of Vancouver, the 'Nucks went into a "prevent defense" and the Hawks could find no way around it. I'd give the SCH Hawks Player Of The Game award to Lapointe, who was finally able to get his first goal of the year.  Next up on the schedule is the Anaheim Ducks, a home match-up on Friday.

Early Season MUST win Sunday night

To rehash the past few losses, it seems that this team is going through it's first test of character.

As of now, they are not rising to the challenge. The loss to the Canucks -- in my view -- can be placed squarely on the shoulders of NKB, after a very poor first period in the net. To his credit, he rebounded the rest of the way, but it was evident that the Hawks were not going to come back against Luongo.

The Ducks are good, but they are not playing as the Champions they are. This was another winnable game, on home ice.
The Ducks physically outplayed the Hawks, and intimidated them. (2 pitiful fights went the Ducks way) I've seen almost all the games, and this was the first time the Hawks were pushed around at will...but, at least the 'good' NKB was evident, and he kept them in the game.

The Blackhawks will only make the playoffs if they can win at the UC. What are they 8-7, or something close to that?

Tonight's game v. Calgary is very winnable. That's a talented team, but something's wrong.....perhaps they -- hate their coach.... It's an underachieving team, and Jerome Igilna cannot do eveything by himself.
The young Hawks really need a boost of confidence, and they can achieve that by winning tonight.

And, others other than Kane, Toews, Sharp, Havlat and Byfuglan have to step up, and get involved.

Agreed...

the past couple of losses were very winnable games and it's frustrating to see them drop both. The Hawks' top line is Havlat-Toews-Kane tonight, it should be interesting to see what they can do. Calgary has been struggling a lot, I think we should be able to handle them.
