The "I Can't Wait For Friday" Thread

Come on, I know you're out there. We are 82 hours away from the beginning of the Blackhawks' season in New York against the Rangers, and you're getting very anxious. I know I am. Heck, after watching my Cubs get absolutely embarassed in the playoffs after a terrific season (one that Al Yellon recapped terrifically over at Bleed Cubbie Blue), I need something to help me move on, and the Blackhawks will help give me that (you don't really think the Bears are going anywhere this season, do you?).

This season promises to perhaps be something special. There is a buzz around this team that has not been here for a long time, and I think everyone will agree that this is a club that could definitely finish 4th or 5th in the conference if they stay healthy and if luck is on their side. With the additions of Huet and Campbell, Toews and Kane a year more mature, and if Havlat can stay even relatively healthy, it should be an exciting team to watch this year.

So, come on. This is the thread where we all discuss how slowly the next 82 hours are going to go and how much we can't wait. Talk about the Hawks, talk about the Rangers, talk about New York, whatever. Let's help pass the time until hockey is finally back for us.

I am excited

I have always wanted to get into hockey, and the new ownership is going to allow for that by putting it on TV…. BUT I am in Bloomington, IN and won’t be able to watch the Hawks cause it is not going to be played on WGN Superstation, rather just the Chicago WGN market. I plan on following SCH to learn more about this great game. I am a HUGE baseball basketball and football fan and would like nothing more then to add hockey to that list. I have attended many hockey games and would love to understand the players/stats more. What is the best place to follow the Hawks so I can stay updated on this team that has potential to do great things… oh and there arent many followers on here, I will spread the word and try to get some Hawks fans on SCH

WOW WHAT A SEASON!

RE: I am excited

Welcome Southside

That’s a shame you won’t be able to watch the Hawks much but stick with it and follow them as much as you can, this should be a special year.

I am excited to...

….finally get to listen to the best broadcaster in sports — Pat Foley. Him and Olcheck are going to be awesome together. Go Hawks!

Yeah that is a big reason I'm pumped

Just hearing Foley again is going to be so awesome. Thank god McDonough made that happen.

I haven't been this excited about the start of hockey season

in ten years!
the Cubs and Hawks have always been my two main sports passions-the Hawks’ amazing turnaround has almost been enough to dull the pain of the Cubs’ post season debacle.

Almost

Cubs sure made things painful. Gonna need the Hawks to help me forget that extreme disappointment.

This is great!

This is the longest thread I’ve seen on here in quite some time and its nice to finally see! Looks like having the miserable end to the baseball season got everyone to finally realize that we have hockey to look forward to! I have been waiting for the puck to drop again since last year when we came oh, so close to the playoffs.

Good to have some new comers on here (welcome to all!) and I suppose its finally time to switch my icon from the Cubs to the Hawks. Can’t wait for Friday and can’t wait to discuss what should be a ground breaking season of hockey in the greatest city in the world!

Now for love of god….DROP THE PUCK ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

ive been busy painting my new place

but i will definitely have the game on the radio.

On a sidenote since this seems to be functioning as a I can wait/welcome post. I’ll explain myself.

In the past when I’ve gone to hockey games I have had a great time. I love the big hits and I love the speed of the game. For some reason my fandom has always stopped when I left the arena. I could go on for quite some time about why that happened but that’s not the point of this post.

With everything that has happened with the franchise in the past year (and the fact that I desperately need to move on from the Cubs collapse) I intend to watch much more hockey this year.

I am intrigued by the history of the franchise and am excited about the direction the team seems to be going. I look forward to watching the guys hopefully return to the postseason.

Let’s go hawks!!!

This is the end of progression to the 'Hawks

I frequented Wolves games when I was littler because of the fact Allstate Arena is a 20 minute drive and because of scouts, but I didn’t get into hockey until the Badgers played Ohio State. That’s when I knew that filling my winter void with only pro basketball was a waste. I interned with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL and followed USHL and WCHA Hockey (oh so this also makes it obvious that fave player is Burish). I think like many, I’ve been waiting for that reason, for that excitement. I look for that connection between the fans and the organization when I dive into a team and the Blackhawks have finally made that step with me. Now I can watch all 82 games if need be (god knows I dont have the money) and I can wear out my Blackhawks jersey i found at a thrift store. Let’s go hawks and let’s turn a lot of goalies into sieves this year.
