This kind of rules...
Do Kane and Toews ever get any free time? They must just practice, play and film shit for the Blackhawks/NHL constantly. I wish there were no Detroit players in this commercial though.. that ruins it.
In another move that should surprise no one - McD is trying to get Obama to show up for the Winter Classic. I'm not a fan of mixing politics and sports - but this seems to be totally different than Palin dropping the puck at a Blues or Flyers game since it's not some thinly veiled political rally. It's more akin to the president throwing out the first pitch on opening day in DC.. since.. you know.. Obama will soon be the President and all. I don't really see any problems with it as long as he leaves this jersey behind...

Couldn't agree more
I saw that commercial while I was on the phone and had to pick my jaw up off the floor when it was done. That was just about as perfect of a spot as the NHL could’ve made and I wasn’t even that excited about the game. I’m kind of looking forward to it now.

DETROIT SUCKS
Can’t see Obama wearing the Winged Wheel of Satan.
Also can’t see the Secret Service giving the go-ahead to Obama at the hockey game. Securing the ballpark would be a nightmare.

And no, this does not rule.
I was happy to see McDonough come to the Hawks and put them on the map initially but now he’s really starting to invade my personal space:
1) The “One Goal” book – you were right on the money on that one, CK. Quit back-slapping and stroking each other off and run the hockey team. You don’t need to take every object within arm’s reach and slap a Hawks logo on it. You’re not Gene Simmons.
2) The children’s book – Seriously? All for charity. Why don’t you just make a donation from those deep pockets? Who wants to read anything Josh Mora has to say anyway.
3) Wrigley Field – Wrigley Field’s history has nothing to do with hockey in any way. It’s a terrible gimmick for this year’s Winter Classic. There won’t be a good seat in the house and everybody who goes will just be there to “be there”. Much like a Cubs game. It will be the worst venue they’ve ever watched a hockey game in and to be honest, I feel that it’s one of the worst places to even watch a baseball game.
I turned in my Cubbie badge years ago when it became obvious to me that the organization was more interested in running a profitable circus focused on boobs and beer than running a professional sports team. The Blackhawks have started down the same path and if he does to the Hawks what he did to the Cubs, count me out.
If 5-year old Johnny wants to run around in the concourse and wants to leave at the 2nd intermission, fine. Please go. Don’t come back. If 18-year old Sally is more concerned about getting on the scoreboard to show off her new iPhone, I hope she gets hit in the head by a stray puck. Sit down, stop acting like a shut up, and watch/respect the game like a hockey fan.
And quit walking around when the puck is in play. This isn’t a Cubs game. I don’t want to hear “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Some people there actually want to watch the event they paid to see. They’re not there to stare at your dumb face while you try to figure out if you’re in the right section.
There are plenty of examples to emulate if you want to run a classy, winning, and profitable team all at once. Please, let’s just try to expand into those other two categories while mainting the class that is synonymous with the Chicago Blackhawks.

I don’t really care about the children’s book – I didn’t think it’s worth a mention. It’s cool that they’re doing more stuff for charities but for my money, nothing will be better than The Sweater in terms of hockey stories for kids anyway. It’s a great lesson in learning that the Maple Leafs suck
As for the rest of the post – Of course Wrigley has nothing to do with Hockey’s history, but tell me an outdoor venue in Chicago that does? Would you have rather seem them play in Millennium Park in front of the bean? We’ve already been told Soldier Field was out for a few reasons so Wrigley is the next best spot.
I’m all for waiting for the whistle (I made people agree to it before they can join SCH now actually) and respecting the game but I haven’t seen it be much of a problem so far at the UC. I’m willing to give new fans a bit of a grace period to get their smarts about them though if it does become and issue. I agree that crowds at cubs games are just there to party – but that’s mostly because it’s Wrigley and it’s in the summer. The UC just won’t have the draw that Wrigley does and I’m fine with that. I do however still love the Cubs and Wrigley Field – there’s no place I’d rather watch a game even if there are other crowds I’d rather watch them with. Have fun rooting for the Brewers though…
And as for what “rules”.. I was talking about the commercial itself. I think it’s great and just about everyone else I’ve talked to and all the blogs I’ve read agree.. too bad you disagree

Totally agree on the children’s book assessment….who cares. If it’s for charity, I’m all for it.
The commercial actually does totally rule. I’d try to explain it, but PuckDaddy hit the nail on the head with this:
“It can’t sell violence to football fans. It can’t sell athletic artistry to basketball fans. But right here, the NHL connected baseball iconography to professional hockey in a way that says, "We’re coming into one of your temples, and we’re going to honor it with the same dedication to tradition, blue-collar ethics and entertainment that keeps you coming to the ballpark every season. Give us a shot.”
Being a Brewers fan must suck…

Oh please!
The NHL’s problem for a long time has been trying to connect itself to people by trying to be something it’s not. Whether they’re moving back the blue line, eliminating the 2-line pass rule, moving the nets up, etc. The list goes on and on. The whole Winter Classic idea is a perfect example. Sure, it’s an attention grabber but it’s aimed at people who don’t give a damn about hockey. I would hope that the real hockey fans would prefer to watch their favorite team within the more intimate stadiums we’re all used to. They don’t need all this nonsense. What’s next, they get rid of fighting because it’s “corrupting America’s youth”?
It’s happening to all of sports (among other things) and I don’t know how you all feel about it but I really find it sickening that everything being offered these days is a dumbed down version of the pure product of the past. Now it’s all catering to the lowest common denominator in order to make a buck which is a real shame. Some things just shouldn’t fall under that category.
I apologize for picking on Cubs fans (I should be more conscious of the audience on this blog) but they are the epitome of what I find wrong with sports these days and things are just getting worse. I was hoping that my Blackhawks would somehow not be swayed into all the off-the-ice shenanigans. Just play hockey, win some games, and wear the Indian head with pride. I suppose I can give the children’s book a break since it is for charity but I really don’t want to see the team over-marketed like the Cubs.
And no, being a Brewers fan does NOT suck but next year will definitely be more difficult and I think it will be for the Cubs as well. At least I got to see my team win a playoff game. ;-)

That is really neat
I wonder if they’ll make any more, and if so, how can it top this?
