Whoa.

Give us the details, dude…

Where? How much they set you back?

Yea

I’m with Bob – more info! And, hey, what bar will you be at beforehand? Any? If so, and you do not mind 4-5 of my drunken friends, let us know.

Pre-game

Unless any bars are open at 8am, I unfortunately will be standing outside peddling The Indian. But do come by and pick one up.

I’ll be sitting in the bleachers above where the batter’s eye is right below the scoreboard. So I’ll be near the highest point of the bleachers, which I thought would give me a better view (if it’s good at all that is).

I blame Sam about 5% for me caving – he was taunting me.
I blame my brother 15% since he said he was planning on coming out here for New Year’s and would split the cost with me.
The rest of the blame is alllll me. I paid about $500 total for the two tickets. I said before they ever announced ticket prices I’d pay around $300 – I was hoping I’d have better seats but beggars can’t be choosers right?

As for the bar – I have no idea yet. I don’t go to bars in Wrigleyville if I can at all avoid it but this time is obviously a bit different. I might be helping Sam sell the Indian – but I’m sure we can also find some time for a drink. Maybe closer to the game we’ll pick a spot and people can meet up there and buy me and Sam a beer. Or.. you know.. just hang out..

I'm the minority, obviously,

but i just don’t have the desire to shell out a few hundred bucks to watch this game.

If it was at soldier field, different story, but the whole Wrigley thing seems like more of a made for HD-TV event than actually enjoying it in person. Or, my plan, swallow my Sox pride and watch the game from a Wrigleyville bar, getting the same ambience without freezing my ass off with a pole in front of my seat, staring at a rink a few hundred feet away.

But since everyone is so excited about it, I tend to keep these thoughts to myself.

soldier field would have made more sense

its all about the John McDonough connection. My guess is his connections played a huge part in making this happen.

Not so much McD

I don’t think McDonough’s connection to the Cubs had that much to do with it, or as much as McD knowing that Wrigley was the main selling point. If the Hawks had chosen Soldier Field, we probably wouldn’t be having this at all. Though it makes more sense as a venue for it, having it at Wrigley is a unique enough event that no one else could match, and is different enough from last year’s that it’s worth having two years in a row. If it wasn’t at Wrigley, it very well may be at Yankee Stadium.

I agree

It makes all the sense in the world for the NHL and the Hawks to have this at Wrigley. Ratings/Publicity wise, it will do much better at Wrigley – and while the McDonough would’ve likely still gotten a Winter Classic to Chicago if it were at Soldiers, we’d be waiting a few more years.

So I don’t want to be a killjoy. This is going to be huge for the Hawks and huge for hockey in general, and I’m sure it will be a great time for everyone who makes it. But for me, it’ll be that much greater drinking a cold beer in a warm bar. With an extra $300 in my pocket.

see, maybe im wrong

but I think that because of the McDonough’s connections he was able to get the ball rolling and get the Cubs on board. While I don’t know how much of a difference if any he would have made when dealing with the NHL, I do believe that his connections made it easier to secure Wrigley Field as the location, which in turn made the Chicago location all that more attractive.
