Blackhawk Nicknames
So I'm another new Blackhawks fan who has begun following the Hawks this year. I know that there are some nicknames for players but I was wondering if there are more that I don't know of. Also, I don't understand Toews' nickname so if anyone could explain that and tell me if there are more I should be aware of it would be well appreciated.
Versteeg-Steeger
Campbell-Soupy (My personal favorite)
Jonathan Toews-Tazer
Thanks a lot guys, and go Hawks!

Well Toews name is pronounced "Tayz"
so Tayzer is just playing off that.
Most nicknames are undistinguished. Wisnewski’s nickname is Wizzer. Alot of nicknamesfrom Hockey start out by shortening the last name and endinig it with a “ER” or a “Y” Or an “S” Seabrook is often referred to as “Seabs” it’snot very creative, but most of these kids are from Western Canada, which isn’t a very creative place

You can't figure out how Toews could be called Tazers?
This is why Cubs fans should be banned from Hawks games.

Cubs fans banned from Hawks games?
Alright if that were to be put in place your guys attendance would likely drop back down to nothing like it was two years ago because although we sport the Red and Black in the Winter many of the Hawks fans you’re seeing at the UC this year bleed blue.

Alright so maybe there are some people out there who don't know their stuff...
but Cubs fans know their baseball and if you give us a chance and help us learn we’ll know our hockey just as well.
Merry Christmas everybody and hopefully we can bring in the New Year in style with a strong playoff performance!

Let's not be so sensitive. I know there's a few good
Cubs fans out there.
But, for the rest, a little common sense goes a long way. The Hawks haven’t exactly been out of the media spotlight the past 6-8 months. You should know how to pronounce Toews’ name by now, even with that backwards Canadian pronunciation. If you hear something about the Hawks, then you hear Kane and Toews in the same breath. Since we know how to pronounce the captain’s name, we can do a little exercise.
Versteeg → Steeg → Steeger
Kane → Kaner
Toews → Tazer
I’d hope even those who hold up those ‘We Believe’ signs can spot the pattern here.

I think it's in the NHL rulebook...
That anyone with the last name Campbell must be nicknamed “Soupy”. I know that’s Colin Campbell’s nickname as well, going back to his playing days.
But the usual formula for hockey nicknames is, if the last name has more than one syllable, the first syllable gets used, which is how Seabrook becomes “Seabs”. A monosyllabic name gets the extra syllable, so Sharp becomes Sharpie.

well there you go. I like it – better than adding an “r” or “y” to a name.
I like the nickname “Fail Tallon” too.. although with the way the team’s playing now I guess it’s getting harder to call him that..
