Puke: Hawks 4, Scum 4

Sure, it's probably sour grapes.  Whatever.  One day, we'll need a movment to get rid of the shootout, and I'm going to do my part and not recognize the results of them here.  That will also include whenever the Hawks win them, should that ever happen again.  I'm sure some peckerhead Scum fan will leave some obnoxious comment about how Scum won, but we'll just point to our point.

That same peckerhead fan, or possibly another one, they're everywhere, will try and point out how great Scum is because they came back.  Let's be clear:  When you wake up tomorrow, you'll remember that for a great majority of this game, the Hawks kicked Scum's ass up and down the ice.  Even when the Hawks were going down two, they had the better of the play.  By a clear margin.  What's so infuriating about Scum is they don't miss a chance.  Ever.  A bad boune off the boards eludes Huet.  Goal.  One bad change by the Hawks, possibly the only one of the night.  Goal.  Hossa gets away with a hold in his zone causing a turnover.  Goal.  There's just no margin for error.  I don't think this was Chicago going into a shell and wating to be caught.  They had just as many chances as Scum did.  But that won't console you tonight when you're burying a straight right into an over-talkative Scum fan at your favorite bar.

I think it's important to reiterate just how good the Hawks were in the first two periods.  Captain Marvel's first goal will have us talking for days.  His second was almost as good.  Versteeg was everywhere in both ends.  Bolland, Ladd, and Havlat were constatntly making things happen.  Keith was a force.  51 Phantom found a team he could throw his weight around against.  If the Hawks play like this the rest of the season, it won't be much of a worry making the playoffs.

But that won't make you feel better.  Or me.  Reading some post-game threads on other boards, there's a lot of vitriol being spewed towards Huet.  The first goal obviously is one you could object to.  But I won't complain about Hossa's equalizer.  Sometimes the guy playing the best hockey on the planet will pick out the top corner.  It happens.  Especially when he's allowed to get away with holding to start the rush.  Still, let's see Crawford tomorrow.  Huet's not the type to do well back-to-back.

Perhaps the end result tonight will be better for the Hawks tomorrow night vs. the Yotes.  Instead of satisfied complacency, we'll have 20 pissed off Hawks.  3 of 4 points in a back-to-back is acceptable.  Let's go get it.

Definitely.

As happy as I am for the Wings to win this and find a way to come away with two points, you have to give a big hand to the Hawks who certainly dominated for the first two periods. I certainly can understand your frustration as the Wings have been on that side (dominating yet still losing) many a time. This series will certainly be a good one this season.

I can’t speak for Blackhawks fans, but over here in Detroit we love the series. Last year, Chicago owned us and this year we haven’t really deserved both wins so it doesn’t really have to do with which team won. But the games are typically close, competitive, and with a ton of talent on the ice (Sharp, Toews, & Kane are a joy to watch). I don’t know about you, but I could really see a first round series between these two teams this year and while it scares the crap out of me, it would be a really exciting series to watch.

Hossa's goal

Huet basically just stood in the cage and hoped Hossa would hit the Indian. He didn’t try to cut the angle or force Hossa to shoot before he was damn good and ready. The fact that the play was started by a goalie recognizing the Hawks were on a change doesn’t help matters any.

The second goal was Huet being caught completely out of position. Huet had himself a stinker tonight.

Huet continues to disappoint

that’s for sure. However, I can’t get over how lackadaisical the Hawk’s 3rd period power play that, of course, ended with a penalty in the offensive zone.

That should’ve been the nail in the coffin, but they didn’t display any sense of urgency at any point during the advantage. I’m drawing a blank on who got called for interference, I knew this was the beginning of the Wing’s comeback. I was hoping that Quenneville would have had this team coming out balls on fire in the 3rd, considering what happened in the UC. Instead they looked content to ‘hold on’.

There were a lot of positives in this game that are drowned by the negatives. Huet still looks like shit, and this team cannot hold a lead in the 3rd. Look at the standings in the Western Conference. For all the marketing hype and feel-good stories about this team, they’re only a few points from being out of the playoffs.

Part of that is the amount of points we’ve lost in shootouts. But in a lot of these shootout losses, we had the lead in the 3rd and gave it up. They’ve gotta learn how to close.

the penalty was on Keith

that was one of those penalities where you immediately think this could be the beginning of the end. And it was.

"Oh, that's easy. White Sox. I'm not one of these fair-weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer; beautiful people up there. People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. South Side." -O'Bama

I'm hoping for Crawford tonight

I think Huet needs a break. He was kinda flung into full-time duty when Khabby went down. I’ll be at the game tonight so hopefully they can turn it around here. Sadly there’s been about 7 times where we say “at least we got a point” when we should have gotten more.

Kinda flung into full-time duty?

Look at his contract. That’s what he is supposed to be doing.
