Wisniewski to have surgery
Thanks to reader eternale1 for pointing this out:
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman James Wisniewski tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training and will have surgery. The team said Thursday he should be able to return during next season.
The 24-year-old Wisniewski played 68 games last season and had seven goals and 19 assists.
At least it doesn't sound extremely serious, but I worry about when he will be able to return. Does this mean he won't be ready for the start of the season? Ugh, the injuries are already starting.

This sounds...
...similar to what Tiger Woods is having, and he can’t return until next season for golf. I would imagine it would be harder to rehab for hockey activities on the knee. According to an article I read on MayoClinic.com, an ACL injury can take up to 6-8 months to come back from, but hopefully Wiz will return to form quickly. In the meantime, we have enough Defensive prospects in our system to hold down the fort (Hendry, Hjalmarsson saw key playing time last season). However, wouldn’t it be cool to see Chelios (FA from Detroit who played 69 games for them last season) suit up again for the Hawks? Assuming we make a trade and had around $4 million in cap space (like mentioned in a previous post), we’d have enough to sign him (made $850K in 07-08) and another center…just throwing it out there as a possibility.

Yeah I wonder..
just when he will be able to come back. Got a feeling he won’t be in the lineup until January. I don’t think Chelios could do much for us at this point in his career. I think guys like Hjalmarsson and Hendry can step up and fill in while Wiz is out.

Chelios
I wouldn’t mind Chelios. He’d provide us a solid experience and grit we lacked at times last year (and I’m not sure Campbell will provide). He’d also be another piece of the repair between the franchise and the fans (ala Maddux returning to Chicago to “right a wrong”).

Chelios II
Naw, we don’t want him. Hard for me to root for him after being a turn-coat. So for me it’s personal and nothing more. I kind of like the guy, but still.

You don’t want Chelios – he didn’t even play in the Finals. He’s worthless and should really just hang em up.

That guy Halpern on the Lightning tore his ACL in the international play back in April and isn’t expected back in the lineup till January or February. That kind of injury is a pretty big deal – even more so for a hockey player/football player who have to cut corners and make non-stop movement with the legs. That’s not to say it’s any easier for a baseball or basketball player, but the degree of rehab is much higher for hockey players.
