Why are you a Hawks fan?
I've seen this on some other blogs and I thought it would be cool to start it up here. The question is, why are you a Blackhawks fan? what made you root for the Hawks? Who's that relative or friend that got you hooked on the Hawks?
For me, the moment that made me a 'Hawks fan for life was when I was about 10 years old, so this would have been the late 1980's, and I was taken to my first Blackhawks game by my dad. This was one of only a handful of games I went to at Chicago Stadium, and I dearly wish I would have been taken to more before it was knocked down. I remember that the Hawks beat the Leafs that night, Denis Savard scored a goal, and I was instantly hooked. The whole hockey experience was just incredible to me and ever since I've been a die-hard Hawks fan. It's a night in my life I'll never forget and I'm glad I was there to get me hooked on this team for life.

Been hooked
since the days of Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Glen Hall. Unfortunately, I was too young to know about or enjoy the 1961 Stanley Cup.
My father was usually able to get seats in those days of sellouts every game. But, when I was a teen, and of driving age — my friends and iIwould stand in line for standing room ‘seats.’ We’d buy the tickets, then run up alllllllll those stairs to the 2nd Balcony….2 hours before the game. And stand there until 930, or so.
The Chicago Stadium will remain — to me — the finest place to watch a hockey game, in the world. If you did not experience it — it’s almost hard to explain the….roar…

The roar, and the view
The great thing was looking straight down on the ice.
The Hawks were just a part of us (I go back to the ass-end of the O6 era). Even the players’ names sounded like guys your dad worked with…Stan Mikita, Eric Nesterenko, Glenn Hall, Bobby and Dennis Hull. We had the Hulls and Bill White, bald guys like your dad or your uncle Al.
It was very easy, even for someone under 10 to be able to identify with them. Montreal had players with beautiful games, like Beliveau and (later) Lefleur. While Hull was the most exciting player I’ve ever seen who didn’t wear #4 in Boston, the Hawks were overall a more blue-collar team, which fit in well with the city.
Even now, I find myself always finding the lunchpail guys more my type of player than the guy with the highlight-reel style of play. This probably explains my growing man-crush on Adam Burish.
Hope this helps answer the question.
