Hawks win first preseason game over Columbus

The Blackhawks were able to pick up a win tonight over the Blue Jackets, 4-3 in their preseason debut at the United Center, which was remarkably sold out with a crowd of 18,752 people tonight. The big goal came from Troy Brouwer with 6:18 to go in the 3rd period, which gave the Hawks a lead that they would not relinquish. The Hawks' other goals came from Pascal Pelletier, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Sharp. Corey Crawford played all 60 minutes in goal and was fairly solid, making 28 saves in the win.
The official Hawks' site should have the video highlights up fairly soon as usual, I was able to catch some of this game on the radio but I'm anxious just to see footage of Hawks hockey again. Good to see this team start out with a win, even if the games don't really count.

I was at the game
It was good to see some hockey. I’d be lying if I said I was a student of the game but here it goes
- I don’t if guys were trying to prove to the coaches how tough they were or if they were just trying to get the fans into it, but guys seemed awfully willing to throw down. There was a lot more fighting than I expected considering the teams and the situation.
- They did a good job killing off penalties. I had to double check the site to confirm this, but they didn’t allow any power play goals
- Going the other way, the Blackhawks did a good job of taking advantage of powerplay opportunities by scoring 2 goals
While it’s true that it was just a preseason game, it was good to see the Hawks get the W. Hopefully they can do that a bit this year and take advantage of the home ice.
