Are You Happy Now, John?
Well, Mr. McDonough, your constant All-Star harping landed you three All-Star starters, two of which are hadly deserving. Because of that, your two worthy all-stars, Keith and Sharp, will be sitting at home. How do you think they feel? They probably don't care, actually, they seem to have their priorities straight. But because of the bevy of Hawks in the starting lineup, it was never likely to be that we would get more reserves, no matter how they've earned it.
The All-Star Game hasn't mattered in years, but as a Hawks fan, it would have been way more exciting to have three or four Hawks EARN their way on to the roster than just some phony ballot-stuffing ploy. It's almost embarrassing, actually. Just like the Cubs during the mid-summer classic. Don't we have better things to do? Aren't we better than this as fans? Would you see Rangers fans doing this? Just like you wouldn't see Yankees or Red Sox fans stooping to such silliness.
Then again, it's probably not the core hockey fans doing. Whatever. Still not cool.

I'm not too upset
While getting recognition is nice, it doesn’t take anything away from their accomplishments on the ice, both individually or as a team.

I'm not really bothered by what McDonough and the fans did.
Hell I voted for Toews and Campbell a couple of times, though Toews is the only one who really doesn’t quite deserve to be there yet. It’s the NHL’s fault for putting the wrong guys on the ballot, but moreso for having such a ridiculous system in the first place.

Have To Start Somewhere...
A few years ago we would have been thrilled to see one of our Hawks starting and getting some recognition. While the current popularity contest might not produce the right results, at least we’ll have a presence in Montreal. It all needs to start somewhere.
The All-Star game has become a joke in every sport and just won’t be what it once was. Nothing can eclipse that ’91 game at the Old Barn!!

ballot stuffing
happens in every sport. the all star game is a popularity contest.
red sox fans and yankees fans do stuff the ballot box. thats why there are so many red sox/yankees every year (don’t tell me jeter still deserves to start every year)
just the way it is.

I wrote in Keith
..but it doesn’t matter. Chances are that I won’t even watch the all-star game. There. I said it.
On the drive into work today, I was listening to Scott Laughlin on XM’s Hockey This Morning. He had an interesting comment that the All Star roster should be decided 1/3 by fans, 1/3 by media, and 1/3 by coaches (like the NFL pro bowl). Maybe someone will take this to heart one day and give us a true all-star roster.
