The era of Smolenak is over
I know everyone is going to be heartbroken, but the Blackhawks have called up Jack Skille to replace the subsequently waived Radek Smolenak. Smolenak was claimed by the Lightning this morning. The only question here is, what the hell has been going on in the last week that made Bowman think that Smolenak>Skille, and what made him change his mind? Did he see Smolenak "play?"
Maybe he just wanted to recreate the David Koci magic.

According to the herald
Skille didnt fit under the cap. Apparently thats why they traded johnson. I think its funny tampa took him back.
They brought their fuckin' TOYS with 'em!
Tampa didn't waive him to be rid of him
He didn’t fit on the 23 man roster. It didn’t mean they didn’t want him in the system… He had to be waived to get to Norfolk.
The Surprise is Chicago taking a chance on him like that to begin with.

Re-create the Koci magic?
What the Hawks wanted Smolenek to not only fight May, but knock him out. But before that barrel over Osgood, then skate up the ice and throw a cheap-shot elbow to Zetterburg’s head knocking him unconcious all the while racking up 52 PIM’s in about 30 sec. of ice-time? Really? Too bad for that would’ve been fucking hilarious and would’ve become a Hawks legend right then and there (at least in my mind anyways).
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!
