I've never seen the Habs play live - so I'm excited to go to this game tonight. I'm also excited to link to Four Habs Fans who always have a preview worth reading (read: almost naked ladies and jokes about tits). Both teams are coming into the game after disappointing losses. If you were able to stay awake during the hockey equivalent of Ambien last night, then you saw the Hawks get shut out for the first time this year. The Habs got blown up by the Pens the night before and dropped down to .500 on the year.
The Habs had been on a hot streak winning four in a row on the back of number 2 goalie, Jaroslav Halak. After giving up 4 goals in the first two periods of Wednesday's game though, Halak was pulled in favor of Montreal's savior, Carey "Jesus" Price - who gave up two goals in the final frame for a .857 SV%. Price is likely to get the start tonight meaning we'll be facing a goalie who is trying to grab the #1 spot back but also one who hasn't had a start since October 17th.
According the Montreal Gazette though, there are plenty of other problems with the Habs who got cussed out by their coach twice in one practice yesterday. Jacques Martin's four-letter word heavy tirades and subsequent line juggling could give his team a boost tonight - or they could be just thinking ahead to tomorrow's game against the rival Maple Leafs.
Huet is likely to be denied yet another chance at payback. First, he was denied the start against Khabby and the Oilers, now he's not likely to face his former team despite putting up his third straight game with a SV% of .950 or better. Tough shit, but Huet has never been a goalie to play well if you overload him with starts and with so many back-to-back games he'll have to wait for redemption some other time.
The Hawks goal for the night (other than actually scoring a goal this time) should be staying the hell out of the penalty box. As good as the penalty kill squad may be (6th best in the league), the other team is going to score if you give them 6 attempts with the extra man like the Hawks have done three times in the past 4 games. Montreal's power play isn't deadly but I'd still like to see a return to the beginning of the year when the Hawks seemed to be one of the most disciplined teams int he league. Putting together something that resembles an actual power play would also be much appreciated - Montreal has the 7th worst PK% so asking for goal or two there shouldn't be like asking Daley to actually fix and plow the streets. The Hawks are supposed to be one of the strongest offenses in the league right?
I think all three authors of this site are going to the game again - so that along with a Friday night game probably means a pretty delayed recap. So play nice. In the spirit of the game - hit the jump for a translation.

Aussi bon que la peine de tuer escouade mai être (6e rang dans la ligue), l'autre équipe va marquer si vous leur donnez 6 tentatives avec l'homme supplémentaires, comme les Hawks ont fait trois fois au cours des 4 derniers matchs. Jeu de puissance de Montréal n'est pas mortelle mais je voudrais encore voir un retour au début de l'année où les Hawks semblait être l'une des équipes les plus disciplinées, il int ligue. En assemblant quelque chose qui ressemble à un jeu de puissance réelle serait également très appréciée - Montréal a le pire 7e PK% demandant conseil pour but ou deux, il ne devrait pas être comme demander Daley de fixer effectivement et labourer les rues. Les Hawks sont censés être l'un des délits les plus fortes du droit ligue?
Je pense que tous trois auteurs de ce site sont en cours pour le jeu à nouveau - de sorte que, avec un match vendredi soir signifie probablement une récapitulation très retardée. Donc, jouer de Nice. Dans l'esprit du jeu - a frappé le saut pour une traduction.

The classics
Habs Eyes On The Prize? is wishing we had more of the classic original six match-ups. After seeing Nashville on our sched. more than once (let alone the painful… what is it 5 or 6 times?), I have to agree – more of the classics please. Is this really the only time we play Montreal this year? What a shitty sched. Anyhow, their site has some good stuff about the ‘71 and ’73 Hawks/Habs Cup runs including audio links. I’m hoping to stay awake tonight and enjoy a real game of puck between two heart & soul teams!

Doesn’t big Jim whip out the french version of Oh Canada for Montreal? After hosting Calgary and Vancouver in the playoffs it feels like every game I go to these days you get both anthems. I’m not complaining, despite the fact that we don’t cheer for it, Oh Canada is a really great anthem.
