Bonjourrrrrrrr, you cheese-eating surrender monkeys! - Hawks 3, Habs 2

This is going to be brief, because honestly, I have drinking to do. Tomorrow, at least another one of the three of us will attempt something approximating a cogent thought regarding the game.

Tonight's tilt started out at a quick pace, with the ice tilted in the Hawks favor. Just about four minutes in, Andrew Ladd absolutely eviscerated Matt D'Agostini with a borderline hit at the Montreal blueline. Having the benefit of watching the replay at home, one could see that while Ladd was definitely springing upward at the moment of impact and his elbow tucked in, his leaving his feet on the follow through with his arms flailing caused the officiating crew to give Ladd a game misconduct and an elbowing major. The penalty was slightly mitigated by a rough and instigator committed by Kyle Chipchura in defense of his fallen teammate, leaving the Hawks shorthanded for 3 minutes, which the Hawks killed. Later in the period, VERSTEEG! scored from behind the net banking a puck off of Marc-Andre Bergeron.

The pressure continued in the second, and Cam Barker sneaked in from the point on a power play to bury a feed from Versteeg, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. It was the only moment of competence all night for the Hawks' man advantage. In the waning minutes of the period, Montreal tied the contest with a goal from Michael Cammalleri at the side of the net on a deflected puck, and Travis Moen slipping one by Cristobal Huet from behind the net. With a pube under three seconds remaining in the period. It was a soft goal from Huet, who no doubt should have had his post covered more snugly, but Cirs was by and large very solid throughout the evening.

Period three was a much more tentative situation, with both teams struggling to sustain pressure. Most Hawks dump attempts were nullified by the excellent puck handling skills of Carey Price, who sprung two breaks with 120 foot passes catching the Hawks in changes. Patrick Kane, who had another strong effort handling the puck all night, gained the Montreal line after dekeing a Montreal defender and served up a pass to Patrick Sharp that he couldn't, and didn't miss on with 4 minutes to play. From there, Montreal failed to get any sustained pressure, even with the extra attacker. Hawks win 3-2.

Observations

  • The Hawks defensive positioning has been exceptional the past few games.Very few pucks see the middle of the ice without a Hawk stick coming in contact with it. Even with the scoring down while missing key forwards, if the defense remains solid, this will bode well
  • Kris Versteeg continues to make the three writers of this site look like idiots even more frequently than we do on our own. VERSTEEG! was everywhere in every situation, and is exhibiting a hockey sense that we didn't see last year. Long may it continue.
  • The power play is still fucking clown shoes.
Player of The Game

As we mentioned above, VERSTEEG! was all over the place tonight, with a goal and an assist. A well-deserved honor both here, and as the official first star of the game on his part.

Honoroable Mention

Star-divide

Long mai se poursuive.
 * Le jeu de puissance est toujours putain de chaussures de clown.

to continue the theme...

Ben Eager should’ve dressed like Sea Bass.

Thought Kane was outstanding tonight…he was absolutely everywhere and even skated his tiny little ass off to backcheck a few times. And he was breaking frogs’ ankles all night (especially on that rush in the 2nd period and on the GW goal) while carrying the puck. Huet was solid enough and rebounded nicely from that shaky goal to Moen.

I saw that too

I think it was midway through the third when I saw Kane totally hustle to get back and help break up a rush. He keeps doing that, awesome shit will happen.

Two comments from Paris

- French Canadians are not real cheese-eating surrender monkeys. Only we, in France, are worthy of that slur. They don’t eat nearly as much cheese as we do, and they suck at surrendering.

- Google translator fails. This French translation was hilarious.

Great game

As mentioned, Kaner was every playing a complete game, awesome to watch.

Ladd absolutely rocked D’Agostini, good job chap.

Other than Hueys lack of sticking to the post for the 2nd goal, he looked amazing. 4 games in a row now? I hear less of the assholes booing.

Now what to do until Thursday?

good bounce back game

Good to see Kane playing a complete game …Was it my drinking or in the 2nd period …….. did Versteeg steal a puck from a Hawks player in Montreal end and put a shot on goal?……Now we need Buf to wake up……..

that was fun

I bought a “Committed Indian” last night (I found one after the Wild game, and determined it’d be more useful to have it beforehand this time) and knew I shouldn’t read it during the game, but then I did…and missed the first goal. (it was the fucking paragraph about Fucking Ken Dryden). Thanks a lot!

Other than that, a good night and I caught up on the game threads here and at Four Habs Fans when I got home. Thanks for the French translations, whatever their accuracy. Happy Halloween:

Commited Indian reading tip...

If I don’t have time to read the CI before the game, I usually read the entire first two pages while waiting for the urinal at the first intermission.

Les Blackhawks gagner encore!

Well that’s what I call hockey! Great pace with some physical play from both teams last night that started with Ladd’s jaw-dropping crusher that was so fresh and so clean. Unforunately Ladd was outkasted after that hit which left the Hawks down 2 forwards for the rest of the night. Although anything could’ve been better than the effort and excitement of Thursday’s tilt against the Predators.

All in all Huet was solid in the victory once again, although the 2nd goal is one that he should’ve stopped as those are usually killers in tight contests like last night’s. In Huet’s defence though I thought the defence and Byfuglien, who didn’t have one of his strongest games ever, should’ve been a touch more physical in the defensive zone with so little time remaining in the period. With that came the cat-calls from the ‘Les Habitants’ fans at my place last night who were eventually silenced when Sharpie netted the winner late in the final frame. In the end Huet bounced back strong, something that has plagued him over the years, and had a very solid 3rd.

Kane was the star of the night as he took control of the game in the 3rd and put on display that once again showed why he considered among the league’s elite. His gift on Sharpie’s tally was a thing of beauty as well as his one-on-one plays that left some members of the Habs D searching for their jock straps. The kid was crazy last night.

After calling out Sharp and Versteeg after the snoozefest on Thursday it came as no suprise that both would find themselves on the scoresheet. Versteeg’s goal was really a bankshot off of Bergeron’s skate and in which was fluky but the Hawks were than due for one like that. Sharpie’s goal was all set up by a beautiful play from the Kaner that sent home the Canadiens faithful a tad upset but made the MGD and Gibson’s Finest taste all that much more better. Ole, ole, ole, ole Montreal, ole, ole.

An excellent way to end the month which recently hasn’t been too favourable to the Hawks. 8-4-1 and now sitting atop the Central comfortably and are 6 points ahead of the Wings.

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

The best show ever

was obviously “Cheers”. But one of the best ever was Newsradio and in one of the best episodes ever there was one where Jimmy James wrote a book that no one gave a shit about until it was translated into Japanese and then it was translated back into English for a lot of fun. In the spirit of Karate Monkey Death Match or some such thing here is the full english to french to Google english retranslation from the jump above:

This will be brief, because honestly, I drink to make. Tomorrow, at least another three of us will try something approximating a cogent thought on the match.

Tonight’s tilt began at a rapid pace, with the ice tilted in favor of the Hawks. At about four minutes, Andrew Ladd absolutely gutted Matt D’Agostini with a borderline hit at the Montreal blue line. Having the advantage of seeing the replay at home, we could see that even if Ladd was born definitely on the rise time of impact and bend his body, leaving his feet on the follow through his arm into question the officiating crew to give Ladd a game misconduct and a major elbowing. The sentence has been slightly dampened by a hard and instigator committed by Kyle Chipchura in defense of his fallen teammate, leaving the Hawks shorthanded for 3 minutes, the Hawks killed. Later in the period, VERSTEEG! scored from behind the net banking a puck off Marc-Andre Bergeron.

The pressure continued in the second, and Cam Barker furtively from the point on a power play for burying a feed from Versteeg, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. He was the only moment of competence throughout the night to enjoy the Hawks man. Within minutes of the period of decline, Montreal tied the contest with a goal by Michael Cammalleri on the side of the net on a deflected puck, and Travis Moen slide one Cristobal Huet from behind the net. PuBe With less than three seconds from the end of the period. It was a soft goal Huet, who probably should have covered his position more comfortable, but cirs was generally very strong throughout the evening.

Period three was a much more hypothetical, both teams struggling to maintain pressure. Most Hawks dump attempts were canceled by the puck excellent ability to deal with Carey Price, who led two breaks up with 120 going to catch the Hawks during changes. Patrick Kane, who had another strong effort handling the puck all night, won the Montréal dekeing after a Montreal defender and served a pass that Patrick Sharp could not and did not miss with 4 minutes to play. Hence, Montreal could not get any sustained pressure, even with an extra attacker. Hawks win 3-2.

Comments

      * Positioning The Hawks defense has been outstanding the last few games.Very few slices to see the middle of the ice without a stick Hawk come into contact with it. Even with the score down while missing key forwards, if the defense remains solid, this will bode well

Power play is funny... how?

Funny like a fuckin’ clown. Funny like fuckin’ clown shoes! I don’t think that the team has any sense of urgency on the power play whatsoever. How else do you explain the great 5 on 5 and shorthanded play. It seems like the whole team treats our PP like a penalty kill.
