Door's Even More Ajar
I'd like to gleefully enjoy this, I know you're not supposed to do this for injuries, but Franzen's an unqualified asshole. But he's a stupidly talented asshole. This is a loss. I know all Scum fans are going to ask me what was the score last night and all that, but there's something off about the Wings. Jason Williams and Todd Bertuzzi were on the second line. There were giveaways galore. They've just signed BRAD MAY FOR FUCK'S SAKE. This injury leaves the door to the division crown wide open, and the Hawks need to take it.
McClure is already having nightmares about the Wings making a push for Kovalchuk, which is frightening. But how many of their trumpeted young players would it take? Kronwall? Leino? Helm? All of them? That would be an all-in, this year gamble, and not one the Wings are prone to take.
Immortality, it's there, it's yours, take it!
Quick note, my joke about the unemployment line last night was out of line and stupid. If it were actually funny, I wouldn't apologize for it, but when we're crass, we make it worth it. And that wasn't. Apologies.

We’re pretty good with nicknames on this site. I’m gonna refer to Mule as Balloon Knot (Mule—> Donkey—> Ass—> Asshole—> Balloon Knot).
Actually, I don’t really care if anyone calls him anything at all that sticks. I’m just happy Balloon Knot is sitting.

How could Scum possibly gain the 6.4 million in cap space to fit Kovalchuk? No need to worry. The young guys Scum have that Atlanta would want make less than 800K each. The Hawks on the other hand, have several 3 milish a year type young guys that could make the salaries matchup.

Franzen's salrary doesn't count against the cap on LTIR
And Kovy’s salary is pro-rated against the Cap for the remainder of the year.

Maybe Kovalchuk is going nowhere!
Rumours (and they are just rumours) have it that Kovalchuk is willing to sign a long-term deal to stay with the Thrashers organization, however it is contingent on the part that the ownership bid by a Partnership Group from Toronto is approved by the league that would see that group own the Atlanta Thrashers hockey operations. The catch is, if this group is succesful in their purchase of the Thrashers they would then seek the approval (here we go again) to relocate the franchise to Winnipeg. Rumours have it that this process is already underway and that nothing has been confirmed by the league or the ownership group for both are quietly going through the correct procedures to make this become a successful transistion.
It’s only a rumour, but it has been discussed on HNIC and Hockeycentral at Noon at full length which has to make you wonder for where there is smoke, there’s fire.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

Moving the Thrashers
Ir would take a lot of money. I’m not up on all the details but Philips Arena has a big part in making the team difficult to move. I believe it’s similar to the Jobing.com Arena situation in Phoenix.

Different situations
But there is a lot of complications when it comes to the relocation of a franchise like the agreement leases for a specific arena (in this case the Phillips arena), the contractual obligations to the state, the shareholders interests, franchise relocation fees, etc. but in this case both parties involved are going through the proper process in order to make this as smooth as a transistion as possible and could take at least a year if not more to complete properly; whereas in the Phoenix situation Moyes was attempting to devalue the franchise in order for the courts to approve the sale of the franchise to Jim Balsille, who then made it clear that his sole purpose of the purchase of the Coyotes was to relocate the franchise to his desired location (Hamilton) eventhough there were zone infringement laws already set in place by the league, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Buffalo Sabres.
In Winnipeg there are no such bystandards standing in the way, but with that said there are lot of details to be discussed and figured out and will take time to be dealt with for the last thing the league wants is another Pheonix disaster.

also unorthodox use of for
has anyone else noticed this? not sure if it reads like something from the 19th century or what
"...but the devil lives inside this kid, I swear it. It rises out of him in a mist, this baby-faced defiant wrathful version of Pat Kane, escapes his bodily confines to perform satanic miracles all over the offensive zone. "for where there is smoke, there is fire" is just an expression....
…that most likely dates way back to the 19th century and maybe even longer, maybe all the way back to the Victorian age for all I know. It’s just an expression that’s all. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Victorian Age is the 19th Century. And the “for” isn’t part of the saying.
Just, you know, saying.

As a Canadian what is your opinion about the possible relocation of the Thrashers franchise to Winnipeg?

They wouldn't trade Kronwall
Lidstrom’s prolly gonna retire soon, and Rafalski’s pretty old. They wouldn’t trade him.
Plus Kovalchuk doesn’t fit in the same style of play Scum plays. Kovalchuk is bad in his own end, and doesn’t backcheck very well. If scum is worried about anything right now, they need to adress their goaltending. Swiss Osgood isn’t gonna cut it for them

Also
The door is wide open. The wings were fortunate to win last night. It was a much different look/flow to the game than in the past. There was no sign of a second gear where they dominate – just lucky goals that put them over the edge. I think things will be very difficult for the dead things this season… and I love it!!

Agreed.
I feel like we’re the better team right now, and that’s w/o Hossa in the lineup. Make no mistake, this team is going to be scary-good, assuming that Bolland’s injury is not severe (yes, he is that important).

Hmmm
“But in terms of replacing Franzen on the top line with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom, that responsibility will fall to Valtteri Filppula or Henrik Zetterberg.”
The concept of Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the same line is terrifying.

and to add to the hope for Hawks fans
Many in the hockey circles like to link Hossa’s playoff failures to that of the one Alex Rodriguez. Well…good ol’ A-Rod just hit a 2-run HR in the 9th to tie Game 2 of the ALDS (And I’m not making this up) and has 3 2-out RBI hits in this series already. Who knew? Maybe Hossa can be like A-Rod and break out of his playoff duldrums and become an absolute monster.
Wonder if Franzen suffered the injury when Kane checked him into the boards late in the 3rd keeping the puck in the Wings zone and eventually drawing a penalty, for if it was not only would that be hilarious but excellent REVENGE on Kane’s part. Next game against the Wings…get Cleary then Babcock can accuse Kane of being a vigilante like Quinn accused Iginla of being last night. For those who missed Quinn’s press conference last night it was a doozey, absolutely hilarious that reminded me of Slap Shot.

Franzen was injured before he scored his goal.
Which leads some to speculate the four month expectation is somewhat realistic. Must not be a full tear.
by Brobz on Oct 9, 2009 8:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It was probably also a little boozy, as well.
I don’t know how to feel about Iginla. I love his play and his style; I can’t see him intentionally injuring Souray (fuck him, BTW, for ruining my top defensive scorer in the fantasy leagues; fucking assface), but it’s not the first time he’s been accused of intentionally injuring a guy. Hell, it isn’t even the fifth time. But Quinn was channeling Reg Dunlop for sure! What’s next Pat, a bounty? I swear that guy reminds me more and more of my mom’s drunken brother every day.

And for his attempted re-inactment of Reggie Dunlop...
…Pat Quinn has been fined $10,000 by the NHL for what league has deemed as inappropriate comments. Although it made for great T.V. the league obviously didn’t find it all too amusing. Brent Sutter’s reaction “I think he (Pat Quinn) still thinks we’re playing in the 60’s”. True Brent the game has evolved but Pat Quinn hasn’t for once a whineass, always a whineass. Nothing has changed from his days in Toronto, absolutely nothing.

The Douche-canoe that is Scum is taking water
If they get desperate enough to put Zetts and Eddie Munster on the same line, it will be a headache until the cycle of lines gets them on the ice during our third and fourth line shifts. After two periods of grinding against Madden and Nails, with a side of Biscuit and Keith, even that duo will be like nuts in cordouroy shorts in July; overly sweaty, limp and hanging very low. And hairy. Very hairy. I mean, look at Zetts, the guy’s like a Swedish Yeti; and you know Datsyuk is totally sporting a Russian hair-suit under his clothes. You’d have to shave his back with something Billy Mays would sell at 3 in the morning.

Why couldn't Vokoun play like that against us.
The Canes pumped him for 5 goals on 25 shots and chased him from the game. The Euro experiment hasn’t been so good for the teams that went over Florida gets pumped in it’s first game back, the Blues lose at home to the Thrashers, the Hawks lose to the Wings, but the if not for Osgood they lose again.
As for the Wings I’m starting to believe in this Cup loser curse. Sure the Penguins came back to win the Cup but at Valentine’s Day they were 10th in the East, how about the Senators the year before? Swept in the 1st round. And the Oilers the year previous to that? Didn’t even make the playoffs. The Flames? Out in the first round. Anaheim? Nope. No playoffs for them either. Carolina? Same as Edmonton and Anaheim. NJ? Out in the first round. And it goes on and on so there is some validity to this, and all suffered major injuries to key players throughout those seasons…just like what’s happening to the Wings. So they’re not immune after all.
