Love Is A Long, Long Road Trip: Hawks at Flames Preview And Thread

Chicago Blackhawks at Calgary Flames, Nov 19, 2009 8:30 PM CST

Images_medium  vs. Humantorch_medium
GAMETIME:  8:30 Central
TV/Radio:  CSN, WGN 720 AM
THE OTHER GUYS:  Matchsticks and Gasoline

Ah, these guys again.  After losing all four regular season meetings last year - with only one of them close - and then getting beaten in the first round, the Flames thought they'd outdo themselves and blow a 5-goal lead in the first meeting in October (the first possible "hockey magic" moment of the year).  So clearly, after all that, one would think the Flames are going to be hellbent for leather (whatever that means.  Something to do with Judas Priest, I'm guessing) tonight.

Calgary comes in after getting beaten at home by Colorado, who keeps doing that, where they could have taken the lead of the Northwest Division.  Calgary has had some trouble scoring, only cracking over 3 goals in a game once this month, and that was beating up on the fat, slow kid that is the Toronto Maple Leafs.  But to be fair to them, that loss against Colorado was the first time they'd given up more than two this month.  With a backline that boasts Regehr, Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Sarich, and the suddenly competent Adam Pardy, you can see why.

Huge game for the Hawks, as this road trip looks especially nasty.  The Flames are going to pull every assholic trick in the book, this one will be a chippy affair at the S&M Dome (seriously, that Axe ad they run on the side of our blog pisses me off.  If you write one of these, no girl's riding one of you that often.  Quit sticking it to me.  What that has to do with anything, I have no idea).  Versteeg should be back, and we should see Sharp back at center if Bickell is going to play with Daydream Nation, which is an intriguing idea.  Should clear some space for those two.  And for the love of god have Brouwer with Sharp and Versteeg for the same reason.

Go Hawks.

I declare this one

a GM-free zone. No trade this guy, sign this guy, buy out this guy shit in here today. Please.

Amen

now enforcing it may be a bit hard though.

That'd be nice.

I think some people would then lose their ability to comment with anything other than make-believe-GM talk.

There would be a lot of – “Kane shoots good! Don’t he?” Instead of “I think Campbell can be moved if take this $2.3 million and burn it, then we’ll trade Buff and the Kane sisters for Phil Kessel and, blah freakin’ blah…”

Hi

I’m Bob LeDonne. I would like to inform you that I’m placing Huet on waivers and signing Ed Belfour long term. You might think that a cost saving measure, but his contract will be one billion dollars.

I’ve got it all figured out though.

Hossa

Any word on a possible return date?

by Delta0ne1 on Nov 19, 2009 3:16 PM CST reply actions

The target date is November 25

But that could change.

Man, this blog needs an FAQ.

“When is Hossa returning?”
“Who are next year’s other RFAs?”
“What did we pay Campbell for and why is he worth that money?”
“Why can’t we trade Huet away again?”
“How many times was I dropped on my head as a child?”

(No offense to you, Delta0one1. I’m sure you weren’t gonna ask the other questions.)

Welcome to the Burning Ring of Fire. Gag.

The Hawks should get a stern test from the “new and improved” defensive-style the Flames currently employ as they embark on this ominous six-game road-trip. The Hawks have been pretty dominate at the Saddledome recently so let’s hope it continues to start this trip off in the right way.

Versteeg is back so that is good news and I agree with SamFels that pairing Versteeg with Sharp and Brouwer would be a great move, but who knows what the mastermind Q has in store.

With the game being televised on TSN may Huet have a stellar perfomance to shut those bludgeoning idiots from continuing their usual rhetorical analysis of his play.

Prediction: Hawks will win with Sharp (could you please), Kane, Brouwer, and….Colin Fraser (for the suprise pick) to score tonight.
LET’S GO HAWKS!!!

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

Bickell can continue the solid play he started in the game against the Sharks. If he turns out to be a consistent force, (insert player name) could totally be traded away for (insert pending free agent)’s contract space!

Anyways, what’s the over/under on penalty minutes for Eager tonight?
