Kick The Holiday Off With Second City Hockey (or at least 2/3rds of it)

1506152701_l_medium

You know the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is a hot mess, so why not make it more so and join McClure and I at Whirlaway for the Hawks visit to The Shark Tank?  Killion will be off to DC to spend the holiday with his family, so you'll have to do with the natives (born right-wise here in the land of the free, and not the foreign hordes defiling....sorry, broke into Bill the Butcher there.  Happens)  Our patron saint Maria has promised a Thanksgiving spread for all those who attend.  So we're giving you food, access to beer, hockey, and the chance to feel better about yourselves after spending time with McClure and me.  What's not to like? (That's fair.  Touch indelicate, but fair.  There I go again).

Whirlaway is on Fullerton just west of Kedzie.  Game's at 9:30 but McClure and I will be there from somewhere around 8:30 onward.  So join us.  (And that my friends, is the minority vote.)

One day

I’m coming to one of these. I love this blog, but London’s a bit far to come for a night. One day though, if you’ve room for an English Hawk.

Dammit

This is an extreme possibility…as I’m coming in from Madison to my parents’ abode in Shorewood for the weekend. However, my wife and newborn baby might need some tending to…but that’s what grandparents are for right? ‘Here Grandma, take care of my kid and wife, while Dad goes out with Grandpa to watch the Hawks and get tanked!’ We’ll see, though, we’ll see.

Sorry to sound extremely lame and treating it like a speed dating get together – but should SCH members perhaps have name tags with their screen name to identify themselves? Gaaa, that even reads lame…but how the hell do we know who is who?

Here's your guide:

McClure will be the tall doofus in an awful Timberlake hat, and I’ll be the bald dude who looks like he frightens children. From there, the rest is cake.

I think I met McClure then.

I got a CI at the last game I was at from a tall, goofy dude. I asked,

“Are you Sam?”
“Nope, he’s over there.”

I didn’t want to ask the logical follow up, “Then who the hell are you?”

So I paid and went inside.

Anyway McClure, nice to meet you.

I be on my green like Irish Spring.

It wouldn’t have been me. I haven’t slung the rag outside for Sam yet this year. Plus, the deutsche bank Timberlake hat is the key identifier. Along with a irritating nasal drone of a voice.

If I can make it

I’d be in the orange leather trenchcoat you complimented outside the UC last week. It’s been a good-luck charm when I’ve worn it to games there, not so lucky when I wore it to the Whirlaway last time.

I figured out who you guys were, but last time I didn’t actually meet all the other bloggers…

I figured it out here...

…but not on Tumblr, so this week I moved my blog over to Blogger, which seems to be where quite a few of my favorite hockey blogs (uh, besides SBN of course!) are anyway…

More cap talk

“Sources tell TSN that Chicago needs to do a little financial reorganization in order to get the ‘tagging’ room necessary to proceed with the extensions for their three young stars. Tagging room is effectively available salary cap space for next season.”

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=299097

and/or if you want to hear Eddie O talk, here’s an audio clip of an interview from earlier today via WSCR. (no downloading necessary).

Also of note from the TSN link

“Sopel is making far too much money for a depth defenceman. In the hockey sense, he’s expendable. And sources tell TSN that is the player the Hawks are now trying hard to move.”

Wait......

does that mean the late 3rd shift period with lil’Bufferoo on defense needs to be visited with future implications???

Ummm, this better not be true...

I liked Foley’s explanation much better that they had Buff back there to give him a feel for playing point on the Power Play. The idea of moving him back to defense in order to move Sopel bothers me more than a little. While I don’t share Sam’s hatred of Buff, I don’t know that relocating Buff is a good idea AT ALL. He’s finally gotten the offense part figured out (even if he doesn’t always try real hard at it), and Sope has actually been showing good defensive play for most of this season.

I figured they’d move Sope and get someone from Rockford to take his place.

Or are they going to move Buff to defense to make room for all the forwards they’ll have once everyone is off the injured list?

And when will any of this happen?

Both of you guys

bring up good points. We have spent a couple of high draft picks on tough wingers-Akim-Beach-Bickell—-why not move Buff to his natural postion and bring up energy?

I got something before the game

so if I went up there, I’d likely miss most of the first period. Also, who knows how cold it’s going to be, bleh.

it's tempting

It’s also my birthday, and is there a better way to celebrate than by drunkenly embarrassing myself in front of people I’ve never met? We may find out.

Chris Kuc is usually a pretty decent reporter but when did it become the policy of the tribune to give daily hand jobs to sports team upper management?

Oh wait, …. never mind.

We aren't talking about derivatives here.

The rules can be a bit complicated. The contract negotiations are complicated. The math is not.

Jesus Kuc, wait til Bowman showers Haugh’s saliva off his asshole before you put your tongue back in there.

The problem with the Whirlaway

is that it’s barely out of the sandbox. It’s just too far to make a cab worth it, and driving is always a bad plan.

Oh sack up.

In the neighborhood

New poster on the blog, long time Blackhawks fan and think Wednesday might be the perfect time to check out the Whirlaway. Used to be a Blue Line reader and I’m so happy that I now have the CI to enjoy. Maybe we’ll see you there. Glad to see another win for the Hawks tonight.
