Tonight It's Like It's Stuck Between Stations: Power Rankings - Week 5

Most nights were kind of fuzzy but the last night he had total retention.

Most nights were kind of fuzzy but the last night he had total retention.

I don't even know why I bothered to really write up any of this since just about everything is exactly the same as last week.  Just to keep myself in the habit I suppose.  The Hawk went 1-1-0 over the week so it makes sense that no one was all that impressed with them, especially after the loss to the Predators.  Onward..

SBN Power Rankings: I didn't have time to vote again in this week's rankings and the Hawks didn't move around at all in the overall rankings, staying at 8th place, or the Western Conference where they're 3rd again.  There's a new #1 in the West though..

The Hockey News: These haven't been update yet this week - when they are I'll update this.

NHL Fanhouse
:  The Hawks also remain stuck in the same spot - way down at 11th overall.

TSN:  The Hawks improved again in the TSN poll, moving up to 8th overall after being in 11th last week.

ESPN:  Another poll where the Hawks are stuck in place - this time in 7th though making it the highest the Hawks are ranked for the second week in a row.

League Wide Stats:

The only category where the Hawks improved from last week is in FO% where they jumped up one spot - odd considering Toews is the main faceoff winner for the team.  The Hawks did win 60% of the draws against the Habs though, that helps.  The Kill, SA/G, and G/G all remain the same while everything else drops, nothing too dramatic though.

Points:  Tied for 8th with Dallas and Buffalo (17)
Goals For/Game:  14th overall (2.92)
Goals Against/Game:  5th overall (2.31)
Shots/Game:  5th overall (33.4)
Shots Against/Game:  Top of the Pops x2 (22.7)
Faceoff %:  3rd overall (53.6)
Power Play:  20th overall (17.3)
Penalty Kill:  7th overall (84.6)

Our power play

The Devil and John Berryman took a walk together

They ended up on Washington talking to the river.

The Hold Steady rock.

Good band to talk about in the context of power rankings.

Never really

cared much about power rankings, and i still dont….hockeybuzz is sayin something about campbell being moved again…..and that the blackhawks would be getting Kaberle, some kind of 3 team trade….and some nut from Toronto says the only way he would give up Kaberle is for LADD,BARKER,CAMPBELL,and 2 first round picks…..hahahahaha…..crazy people in Toronto

by csm on Nov 4, 2009 6:40 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

fair enough..

I compile them just for fun and to get a sense of how people are feeling about the Hawks.. I don’t put much stock in them really.

I also don’t care much about hockeybuzz – I wouldn’t listen to them

Ah man i didn't

mean to make it seem that i thought your post was shit,or that i was poo pooing it i like your articles….I’m just like you,I read them just to get a sense of what othe people are thinkin about teams, and i dont put much stock into them….

and yeah i know hockeybuzz is full of it,i still dont get what they want u 2 pay a fee for,you know become a member?for rumors that usually dont come true?gimme a break!!!

by csm on Nov 4, 2009 10:03 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

no worries man..

hockeybuzz is good at what they do.. i guess. I’m just not really sure what it is other than making shit up..

by Matthew Dirt on Nov 4, 2009 10:34 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hahahahaha

You actually think that they make that shit up?I guess it is possible….Glad that there aren’t any hard feelings….you rock Joe Dirt…..em…..Matthew Dirt!!sorry about that!Joe Dirt is a geat flick though!

You’re right about Joe Dirt; hilarious. That whole thing about the “meteorite” kills me. My only complaint is that Chirs Farley wasn’t alive to be in the movie. God I miss that guy.

by K_Dog on Nov 4, 2009 11:16 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

it was a great flick, the meteorite was an awesome twist…..and i miss Farley too,he was great

however flawed and meaningless they may seem

I agree it is fun to look at them, especially during week like this with so many days between games. I also find it mildly interesting to see what the so-called hockey experts think of our team. Sometimes it makes me laugh at their absurdity, other times it opens my eyes.

So, if you continue to compile, I for one, will continue to read.

by K_Dog on Nov 4, 2009 10:11 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well yeah

as long as they continue to compile the Power Rankings I’ll read them too :)

just like i read every article here…..

is it too early for predictions for tomorrows game and Fridays game?

by csm on Nov 4, 2009 10:20 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Ya

Thanks for the post. Gotta do something on weeks like this. Might as well be checking out the rumor mills. Also, Google tells me today marks the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. And it sounds like Ovie is going to miss more significant time with that “upper body injury.” What do the Raptors, Argos, Leafs, & Blue Jays have in common? None of them play hockey.

I absolutely love this. LOL.

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

is it me

or do they remind anyone else of the Tragically Hip?

by K_Dog on Nov 4, 2009 10:16 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I certainly hear it. Finn and Downie are both pretty mean story tellers. Prefer Gordon Downie but kinda like The Hold Steady music better.

I like Finn’s writing more than the actual songs…but anyone who performs in their hometown baseball jerseys are ok with me so long as they don’t completely suck.

I find it hard to believe it’s the first I’ve made – but I can’t remember any others. They’re one of my favorite bands around right now though

I like

The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady

Sound a lot like early Springsteen. Not bad at all………….

Craig Finn is slated to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of Chuck Klosterman’s Fargo Rock City.

Sporting News

I usually find myself at the Sporting News website for hockey news, and I noticed we’re ranked 6th. It’s always nice to see something where we’re a little bit higher.

unrelated to this post

Toews is back on the ice, apparently practicing with Hossa and Eager on the team as well.
