Sunday Notes

Obviously, not much up today.

-Bolland sat out practice, and probably won't play tomorrow, or at all this week would be this observer's guess.  Versteeg skated at center at practice, and I'm willing to give it a second look after his more than satisfactory turn there on Friday.

The Hawks, as we've said, need to figure out Bolland's health, and right now.  Trying to nurse him through the year isn't going to work, there's only so many cortisone shots one can take before Satan comes to collect his due.  Either surgery or rest, but get it done.

-Apparently the Hawks have seen enough of The Ebbett-at-center experiment, he was back on the 4th line with Eager and Fraser, which probably means Kopecky is getting bumped up to the checking line.  Willing to see that as well.

-Toews was between Buff and Sharp, leaving the question of who's going to pass the puck on that line, but we'll give it a game before complaining.  Then we'll do so vehemently, cuz that's what we do here.

-Forget the Hawks going out and getting another center.  There's no cap room, and with Sharp, Versteeg, and even Kopecky there are stop-gap measures.

-Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead, and the power play still sucks.

That is all.

tough choice

but I really hope he just gets the surgery.

he’s most likely going to need it eventually anyways, I’d rather have some hope of getting him back at the end of the season, or next, then keep watching him play like this and risk his back condition getting worse and harder to correct later on

What are we missing here?

I don’t understand why the choice doesn’t seem to be as clear for the Blackhawks as it is for us. What does he do for the Blackhawks that makes him indispensible for two months, that lets management play him at 50% when he could be getting treated properly? We’ve already decided to let Hossa out for that long— why is the decision to do the same for Bolland so hard to get to? I don’t get it at all.

sharp seems to need a passer

it would make sense to put either Kane or Versteeg with Sharp

These line groupings scare me.

Kane and Sharp should be on a line together, it seems to work. Toews and Versteeg make sense too, because they play a similar game and are hard working forwards. The constant changing of lines is kind of annoying and I am beginning to question the big Q. Players need to start getting used to seeing the same guys night after night. Why not move Kopecky up with a Sharp and Kane pairing, putting Buf down with Eager and Fraser. Buf wont have to work as hard with those guys and it gives Kane some size and defense on his line? Just a thought. When Bolland is healthy again I would like to see him with Ladd, just like old times.
Bolland needs to do what ever is needed to get him healthy, his play has suffered too much already, just get him healthy it’s pointless not to. The Hawks are doing alright with a suffering line up as it is, the main focus is to be completely healthy by the playoffs.
This powerplay crap needs to be fixed, pronto. More reasons to question the Q. I would like to see Campbell on the point, he has what I view as the most effective shot due to his ability to move quickly and shoot while skating backwards. It wouldn’t hurt to through Keith there once and while just to get things going.

"The constant changing of lines"

is probably due to the constantly changing personnel, what with all the injuries and such. Has anyone in the so called media even asked big Q if he got those players injured on purpose so he could keep switching all the lines? Kuc/Ziehm/Sassone fail us again.

Q's M.O.

He juggles lines constantly. It was the biggest complaint from Avs fans during his tenure there as well. Injured personnel or not, he rarely keeps combinations together.

My biggest confusion over the Bolland injury is why he didn’t just get surgery 3 months ago. He sat out all of training camp with back issues and has looked like a guy playing below capacity all season. Seems like this issue should have been addressed long before now, especially since the Second City guys have been bitching about it all summer. Frustrating.

Can you even imagine the shit the Hawks would have gotten with Bolland out for surgery-after-a-big-contract-signing, coinciding with the Hossa out for surgery-after-a-big-contract-signing…

Good point

However, I still think that the ends would’ve justified the means.

7 points in 6 games without Toews...

…Hossa, Burish, or Eager. Also, Seabrook and Bolland missed two.

The defense has been great in this stretch, and Huey had a nice run.

Apparently, Patrick Sharp is the whipping boy du jour now. Fast-moving crowd.

Coulda been better, but man, it’ll be good to see Lloyd Christmas taking up his usual 20 minutes tongiht.

And we'll all be holding our breath every time he gets hit.

I really hope he’s not the new Havlat, where we are constantly on tenterhooks hoping he doesn’t get hurt.

Very well put.

7 points in 6 games with half the cast sidelined. I’m loving that it’s only early November, we’re doing just fine thanks, and no-one has faced the team we’re about to be. My only real bitch (as Sam points out… that’s what we do here) is that Hossa hasn’t joined the ranks for our toughest run to date: L.A., Colorado, San Jose, & Flames in the next five games.

injuries

all these injuries suck, but i would much rather goin to the playoff healthy as a 7-8 seed than a beat up team at 3-4 seed. with that being said i really think bolland should get the surgery and heal up. i know thats looking forward quite a bit, but hopefully thats the attitude they have with all of these injuries.

Pain is a good reminder you are alive
