Merry Christmas From Second City Hockey

A_charlie_brown_christmas_cover_medium

Obviously, things will be a little quiet around here for the next two days, so I thought I'd reprint my editorial from another "Lost Issue" of Tuesday's Indian:

This will be the fourth Christmas in a row I write this little soliloquy -- be it here, on the blog, or on various message boards I used to be a member of.  Christmas is always a good time for me to reiterate why I’m a Hawks fan and why I love being one of you. In most ways, this publication and blog is my love letter to you (so gay!). Despite some recent minor glitches, there is no cooler group to be a part of than Hawks fans. While there may be some traces of the following amongst us, they aren’t the massive epidemics you find in the other fandoms in this city. There’s no blue-collar, gotta-be-tough- like-Ditka bullshit you find rampant amongst Bears fans. There’s little frat-boy yelling, drunken boobery that comes along with being a Cubs fan.  You’ll find scant, if any, inferiority complex that accompanies
being a Sox fan. There’s no blind ignorance of the sport you claim to watch that Bulls fans are affected by.  For the overwhelming majority of us, we are passionate and we are knowledgeable. We have been kicked to the ground by our team and have survived to cherish what we have now. We are the coolest band in town now, and we got in on the ground fl oor. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to write this for you. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. From everyone here and at Second City Hockey, we wish you a very safe and Merry Christmas.

To which I'd personally like to add:

Those of us who weren’t yet Hawks fans in those dark days salute the keepers of the faith, the ones who stuck with the team through thick and thin, and kept alive all the knowledge and traditions that come with being a true fan.

A very merry Christmas to all.

Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Right back at you

Very well put. While, as my name suggests, am a big Cub fan too, I also get very sick of the frat boy boobery that comes with the northside team. I’m fairly new to thi site but I LOVE it here. True fans coming together to celebrate the most exciting sports team that this town has produced in years. Keep up the good work.

Merry Christmas and GO HAWKS!

Likewise

Here’s to hoping next year at this time we’re talking about the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.

Great Job as Always and Merry Christmas to you guys too!

Being a lifelong Hawk fan and no longer living in Chicago, reading this blog daily makes me feel right at home.
Thanks for the laughs, the excellent journalism (?) and for making this the place to go for Hawks news.
The in game threads, while I’m not able to participate in as many as I would like, are a blast.

Here’s hoping that a Stanley Cup is under the tree for this great team!

Enjoy the holidays everyone!

Merry Christmas to all!

I am rather new here – but do have some idea from participating in, and even helping a bit, on other sites over the years).

Doing something like this is a load of work, on a volunteer basis – where it even costs you to do the volunteering, and mostly what you get is complaints instead of the thanks you deserve.

I love the site. I appreciate the work you do. I share your hockey addiction and Hawks fixation (now that the Wirtz family has extracted the heads from their posteriors and the dark ages are over in Chicago).

Thank you for letting me be a guest here, and I hope you see fit to carry on for years to come (maybe through a 4-peat run like the Isles or Oilers of the 80s? – hell, one would be nice, I wasn’t even in school yet last time).

God Yule to you all!

Merry Christmas to you too

Thanks for the great site.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Happy Holidays and Thank You

Being stuck in New York City, this blog has been a great way to help me still feel a part of the scene back home. Keep up the great work!

And thank you to the website, without you I wouldn’t know nearly as much about the Hawks and how to watch hockey better.

Merry Christmas everyone.....

Although I will disagree there is some inferiority issues with most hockey fans…. being on versus and mostly being ignored bothers some….

Sorry I hope I didn’t ruin Christmas… or make Baby Jesus cry….

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and thanks...

…to the SCH crew for the entertainment and information, the Committed Indian, the nights at Whirlaway, the trip I owe you for…
…to the SCH commenters for also being entertaining, and usually not being jerks…

Merry Christmas from San Diego Hawks Fans

Although I am enjoying the sunshine here and Hawks on Center Ice Package Cable, I still miss shoveling snow on Christmas on 61st and South Kostner avenue. Love this site and the great fans that participate. Now its back to my frozen Home Run Inn pizza….

You are the one other hockey fan in San Diego.

A friend of mine moved out there 5 years ago and he said that the minor league team (the Gulls) folded and no one even gives a shit! He says that they dont talk about hockey on the news or in the newspaper. He can’t decide if he is a Sharks fan or a Hawks fan. Thank god for the Center Ice package right? You two could be in that goofy commercial where they show people at the beach with their Hawks jerseys and deep-dish pizza in their hand. Merry Christmas to all you true hockey fans in San Diego, Fresno, and other deserted hockey wastelands. You have to remember that before satellite dishes no one in those locations could hope to see a hockey game on t.v. Seriously, Merry Christmas!

Right but....

You should see the Bears jerseys come out when they are winning out here. Its a So Cal attitude thing that I personally will NEVER adopt. I drive to Anahiem and L.A. to see the Hawks when they are on the west coast. True never-die here! Beef sanguiches and Vienna beef hot dogs till the grave.

Aw yeah!

Aint nothin like a Johnnie’s beef on North Ave. or a dog at Gene & Judes on River Rd. I hope you find something in SoCal that comes close to either one.

Mobile phone post fail

But anyway I just wanted to say that I get the Indian at every home game I go to, and it just makes the games that much more enjoyable, and I love coming here to the site to read all the news and recaps and more. I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and i’ll be in nashville for the Hawks-Preds game tomorrow – or I guess in about 19 hours! Go Hawks!
