Hjalmarsson Left Off Swedish Olympic Roster

Sweden announced their Olympic roster today and depending on how you're looking at it - we got some good news. Niklas Hjalmarsson didn't make it. Hopefully, Hammer is just battling an illness, but if he's hurt, the last thing we want is to have him play in several more intense games while just about everyone else in the league is resting. I'd love to see him play for his country, and Sweden is going to be a scary team again - but maybe he'll make it next time around.

Who did make the team? Magnus Johansson... remember him?

As long as this isn’t signaling a long term injury, this is pretty good news. Let him get rest and let’s not let the entire world shut down some great offenses. Keep him as secret as possible.

I knew he would be a longshot to make the team, but what really surprised me was that I didn’t see a single Swedish roster projection even list him among the “Honorable Mention” or “In The Discussion” groups.

Meh, I’m ok with him being our secret for a bit longer. He’ll represent his country plenty before the end of his career.

The fact that more people are talking about Victor Hedman than Hjalmarsson is odd. I guess he’s still under the radar like Keith was until last year..

This reeks of appeasing the SEL by giving them the last D-man spot. Either Hammer or Hedman gets the nod in my book.. Though he who shall remaing nameless hasn’t been nearly as awful as he was in Chicago.
