Television Advice
Starting next month, I am being relocated to North Carolina for work for what I'm told will be about 5 months. The only major problem with this is that I'll be moving away from consistent Hawks coverage that I currently get in the Chicago market area.
I've seen a few people complain about how difficult it is to follow the Hawks from outside the Chicago area, even if you buy the Center Ice package or whatever else the NHL Network calls themselves. What do you guys recommend as the best option for following the Hawks? Center Ice? Some sort of satellite package? Just scouring the web to find feeds that people provide for you?
My uncle mentioned something about getting a dish from Dish Network, having it set up here so that it receives local Chicago channels like CSN and WGN Chicago, and then taking that dish with me. I don't know if anybody else has tried this or if it's worth looking into.
If, for any reason, any of you will be making the trip down to Raleigh to see the Hawks play the Hurricanes next month, I'll be there. Plenty of good seats still available.

Check out slingbox. I’m not totally sure what the costs are and everything, but you can hook the slingbox up to your place here and hook up the slingcatcher there and watch all the Chicago stations.

You sir are the winner. I went out and bought a Slingbox today. Hopefully it pans out, because the installation has so far been about as fun as cutting off my own testicles with a dull butter knife.
WOO!
I like winning things.

I live in Madison, WI
and I get Center Ice, and to me it’s definitely worth it. The downsides: when NHL Network carries the game, Center Ice will not. And when WGN (Chicago) has the call, you’ll have to watch the opposing team’s coverage – as Center Ice will not carry WGN…even though it’s WGN Chicago covering the game and not WGN America, but whatthefuckever…you’re still getting to watch the game, albeit the enemy’s call. And one last thing – Center Ice cuts off the broadcast as soon as whatever network goes to commercial following the conclusion of the game. The nice part, if it’s a Hawk victory, and if it’s CSN Chicago, that commercial break is not until after the interview of the first star of the game.
I hope I provided enough Center Ice info. I’m glad I went with it.

WGN does make Center Ice
only if the opposition does not have ANY telecast whatsoever. So far this season I have seen 1 WGN telecast on Center Ice. (It may have been a Predators game) I seem to remember 1 or 2 WGN games last year — I believe road games in LA and Anaheim made the package since neither game was televised in the LA market on FSW, FSPrime Ticket, or KDOC-TV. (There are conflicts with the Lakers & Clippers, so some Kings/Ducks games get bumped completely.)
Of course, Versus games are not seen on Center Ice. Some satellite carriers do not feature Versus, which is another issue.

NHL Gamecenter
If you’ve got a decent monitor or your computer hooked up to a TV and a solid internet connection of course, I recommend the NHL Gamecenter through NHL.com…You can watch 4 games at once, do a picture in picture, and if you miss a game, they usually have it available to watch in about 24-48 hours…I know I sound like a commercial for it, but basically it costs the same as the Center Ice package and has more features that are actually pretty useful…

I use
Channelsurfing.com. It allows me to watch the games for free. It’s not always the Chicago feed, but it’s better than nothing. I don’t think I’ve missed a game i wanted to see, home or away.
