I like...
I like the way the puck crosses the line back behind Brodeur.
I always kinda liked that goal lamp too.
No, no, don’t turn it off, leave it on, leave it on.

Dirt, love your blogging....
but Van Halen? Really?
What does bad music
have to do with Dirt’s blogging?(Please don’t even try to tell me that the band that produced “Jump!” is worth a shit.)
Dude....
It’s Van Halen, don’t be a hater.
If I can't be a good example, I'll just be a horrible warning
I'm no hater
Just can’t stand that particular band. Don’t even get me started about the Hagar years! Anyway, I love this blog and read it every day. Keep up the great work Matthew, Sam, and McClure as well as all the great posters like Trixie and others. Happy New Years to all!
Go Hawks!
HUET!
Yesterday’s blog needs an enema. The stats and whining made me ill. YES he made quality saves tonight. Can the nightly panicking stop now?

Happy New Year, great game
OH how badly I wanted that to be a shutout, but the fact that Madden scored (and the big contingent of Devils fans a couple rows back cheered that, because at that point they had nothing else to cheer and figured they might as well), and obviously it was a great win over the current #1 Eastern team, is pretty nice.
Fun fact: I attended 14 Blackhawks games in 2009 (all UC except for the recent Pittsburgh game). And the Blackhawks won every one. What are the odds? (No, don’t try calculating, I have a friend who does that every time I see another one.) So clearly, I’m a good luck charm (uh, the fact that it’s a great team might help too). Too bad ticket prices skyrocketed and I don’t know if I can see more than a few in 2010…
a little chippy: hockey, mostly
"if you don't watch the violence, you'll never get desensitized to it!"
So I bought tickets to home games for $35 each, if I decide not to go to any of those games
you can have them for the amount I paid for them.

Well I have yet to see a game
Broke college kid + those price = thank god they decided to show the games on tv
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
That french guy needs to learn how to play goalie. I also noticed that Toews was too lazy to get a hat trick. I say trade them both for a used codom.

BTW
did anyone notice that Broduer guy last night? He sucks, the devils should trade him too.

Sam...
Thank you for the comment on Rozner in the Indian… I wanted to bash my face into the radio when he was pining for Buff on the point….
Anyone else notice that Foley said he was doing his own fireworks tonight or something like that? WTF?!?!
I missed Rozner saying that, but...
…I heard about him complaining about the lack of critical coverage in the media for the Hawks and how they (specifically Huet) get a free pass. I almost drove off the road. First of all, Rosenbloom, douche or not, has been not giving the Hawks a free pass for what…a decade? Second, what’s the need to find things to find fault with, considering they’re IN FIRST FUCKING PLACE!
Look, I know Len Ziehm is not going to be confused with Bob Woodward, but come on…the media coverage has been as good as ever, and while there’s ALWAYS room for improvement, I don’t think beat reporters questioning Q’s decisions is the major issue.

Everyone loves Iron Madden
But seriously, what an effort. (yea, they played last night… but)
The only thing better than Madden’s goal was his spinorama shot in the second period.

Per Jesse Rogers' recap
"I have a lot of those things [moves], but I’m too afraid to do them out there; but I’ve been working on it in practice so I thought I’d throw that out there," Madden explained.
His teammates came to their feet as well.
"The guys on our side were talking about it," Madded added. "‘Where did that come from old man?’ they said. It was pretty funny."

Look at his eyes during the game, or Torch's discription during the second intermission.
Madden was playing to show his current/last team… and it makes me love him all the more… his reaction to getting one past his buddy in the third is classic.

Brouwer
Happy New Year All!
I wanted to post about how well Brouwer is doing. I haven’t been a detractor but never thought he would amount to much. It’s really fun to see someone develop in front of you. This is a great team to watch.
about Huet
I’ve been one of those dudes that been critical of Huet whenever he sucks, mostly because when he’s good, he’s brilliant. I’m going to change my tune. It’s not that Huet has some bad games here and there… it’s that he decides not to show up for some games (for whatever reason).
But, if that only happens every 5 games or so I can live with that. He’s just not a competitor like Toews and he never will be. He just a 4/5 goalie, and with this team, that’s good enough.
My New Year’s Resolution… I will accept Huet for who he is… our netminder.
Happy New Year.

Just remember...
…all of us, whether we’re working, or students, or among the umemployed looking for work, have our bad days at the office, school, or typing out cover letters. Goaltenders can have bad days too. You just home they’re limited and at not crucial times. I’d rather have him lay that egg against Dallas on the road then against a divisional rival at home.

I like this...
…it’s like a Huet Serenity Prayer. We should all try it.
Toews ability to sustain his level of play is what makes him Toews. Not a fair comparison.
I wouldn’t mind a bit more mental toughness in the net. Someone excerpted some great quotes from Ken Dryden on the subject a few months back that maybe Huey and Auntie Em could ponder.
For better or worse though, they’re our guys. Embrace ’em.

All is quiet on New Year's Day.
Hmmm…I guess Huet is not that bad after all. Another solid performance for Cristo which is exactly what he has done since the middle of October except for what? Two. Three games maybe. Pretty honourable of Q to put him back in the goal after a tough performance the other night in Dallas as I was a little worried that Q would show his toddler impatience and start Niemi.
How good has Brouwer been this season? I know it’s getting a little redundant but he has improved more than anybody on this team in the last year. Between him and Campbell they’ve single-handedly made the PP a little less “clown shoes” of late.
John Madden with the spin-o-rama? LMFAO. Great to see him pull out the bag of tricks against Brodeur.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!
Coach Q showed why he is among the best in the business last night
His line changes and strategy throuighout the game had New Jersey bamboozled throughout.
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
I'm so glad to have been wrong!
I was one who posted my fears of the Hawks not looking very good before the game. Guess I got that one wrong! They pretty much controlled that game after the first 5 minutes or so. Madden’s spin move made me laugh with glee. Huet’s performance was great. (And it’s my wife’s fault the shutout got shot—she asked about how many shutouts this would give him. I screamed No! and then the Devils scored. She will be properly punished.)
One irritating/funny thing was that I had to miss the first half of the game, so I recorded it from the Center Ice feed. But there were 2 channels it was on, so I put it on one, hoping I’d get to hear the Chicago broadcast. I didn’t. It was the New Jersey broadcast. They had lots of nice things to say about the Hawks. But it was funny to hear them say all throughout the last 2 periods that the fans were probably disappointed since the Devils were not playing their usual exciting brand of hockey. They kept saying over and over how the home crowd must be sad to see such a one-sided game. Yeah, right.
Happy New Year! Enjoy this team.
You can say all you want about the Devils having played the night before...
…and Brodeur playing on consecutive nights…the Hawks OWNED this game and made a strong case for why they might be the best team in hockey right now.
I think what I liked best is the way they were able to shake off the tough loss against Dallas-it tells me a lot about this team’s talent AND growing maturity.
The anouncers nailed it in the pre-game, the devil-kids were 8-0 on the second game of theirback-to-backs before walking into the UC last night. Happily, they are now 8-1.
