New SPG Update and New Rule

So we're well into the game now - and we've got two guys battling for first place.  Chrome and MikeVanAcker are now neck and neck but don't rule out anyone in the top 10.  All you need is one good game to make up some ground.  This team certainly doesn't make it easy to pick winners though since it seems like there's a new goal scorer every night.

chrome 40 points
MikeVanAcker 40 points
Tobo 29 points
ChicoMaki 29 points
jfbrens 22 points
chinesebeatle 22 points
martini 20 points
delorean80 19 points
Donuts 19 points

As for the new rule - here are the results of the poll we had last week:

Spg_poll_medium

So starting with tomorrow's game - in order for your points to count you can only pick the "Will Not Happen" option ONCE PER GAME.  I'm going to be a dick about it too so if tomorrow you still pick WNH for all goals and penalties I'm not going to count ANY of your points for that game.

So just to be clear - if you pick it more than once... ALLpoints you get that game are discredited.  So don't do it.  Consider this fair warning.  I'll post reminders in the game preview for the next few games just in case. I'll be keeping my own file of points for the game too that I'll post up here every week or so.

Good luck all.

Overtime

Dose this rule apply for overtime also?

no.. lets just say it’s for regulation…

I like your new idea...

… nobody has ever proposed that WNH be allowed only once during regulation.

It’s an interesting idea, but I think it still keeps the door open for padding scores per game. If we allow 1 in regulation and any number (or just 1) in OT, then it just seems like an arbitrary rule. If the game goes to OT, then pretty much everyone’s going to get a point for no penalty.

How the site handles WNH will definitely change in the near future, either for the playoffs or during the off season.

I assume your once-per-regulation rule is there just to deal with the fact that the site offers WNH as an option. Does it make any sense to keep WNH at all, and if so, under what conditions? Alternately, is it the best idea to banish WNH altogether and make people pick players for everything, regardless?

Thanks for your input.

I don’t think it’s open for score padding really. The games don’t usually go to OT so it’s not a big deal and even then the Hawks have taken a few penalties – so it’s not certain a penalty won’t happen though you’re right that most likely they won’t take a penalty. I don’t think it’s enough to really pad the lead though.

I don’t think I’d cry about WNH no longer being an option. It makes sense ideally, but it seems like too easy of an option. When the game first started I let people know it was there not realizing how easy it was to pad a lead with it. So I think it might be best to take it off but that’s just me.

Thanks for the game though – its been a lot of fun

Some of the Leafs fans over on Pension Plan Puppets have gone apeshit with the points going WNH on all penalties & goals, and their points totals are absurd.

You’re just further convincing me that 86ing WNH is a good idea.

So, playoffs or next season?
