Lets hand out some awards, huh?
All the hockey bloggers from SBN have been talking about who they'd nominate for all the various end of the season awards on their own teams. So I thought it'd be a good time to open them up here for some discussion. You can check out all the other teams nominees over at Mirtle's site:
Here are the ones we came up with for the Hawks:
Hart - Keith
Norris - Keith
Vezina - Khabby
Calder - Versteeg
Selke - Ladd
Obviously the Calder and Norris would be pretty clear cut - but everything else is pretty much up for grabs. What do you think?

Hart – Havlat
Norris – Keith
Vezina – Habby
Calder – Versteeg
Selke – Havlat
Havlat has been the Hawks best forward offensively, but he is also +25 compared to Ladd’s +22. His numbers are great, but I think his play speaks for itself. He is a calming presence with the puck with a deadly shot and silky smooth moves. Sign this guy to an extension already!
Hart – Havlat
Norris – Keith
Vezina – Khabby Birdman
Calder – VERSTEEG!
Selke – Ladd
I’m in agreement all the way around except for the Hart. Keith is obviously not a poor pick, I just think Havlat has meant more to the team in key moments of close and big games. Keith has been a stud almost the whole year, getting the lion’s share of difficult minutes; but Havlat has had that intangible quality all year long to get out on the ice and carry the team on his shoulders, and literally make things happen. A key ingredient in this, too, is that he’s completely changed his style of play under Q, playing an unbelievably reliable defensive role while still contributing offensively. And his beard.
And I’ll add one in the realm of prediction:
Conn Smythe – Who else? Captain Serious, why not.
Vezina's not really up for grabs.
By the way, I was a little critical of Khabby’s performance after his return from his injury, especially following Huet’s mediocre run. His last three games, he’s allowed 1.5 goals, and stepped up exactly as we’d wanted.
Got more soul than a sock with a hole.
