You guys remember the Blues right? Pesky little buggers - I was told they made the playoffs...

Anyways - SLGT has an interesting question up. Should they have taken Toews over Erik "Golf Cart Polo Champ" Johnson? Don't go over and just ruin their poll (that's annoying) but it's worth it to go read their thoughts..

Something tells me you won't find any Hawk fan that thinks we got the worse end of this..

I guess that's what happens

when your team gets rolled in a playoff sweep. All NHL teams can play the what if game in regard to the draft. If only the Hawks would have taken Milan Lucic(50th overall pick)) in the 2nd round instead of Igor Makarov…how awesome would it be to have that guy on the 1st line with Kane and Toews providing them some protection. Steve Mason went in the 3rd round in 2006 blah blah blah. Too early to tell on any of these guys anyway…Phil Kessel was in that draft too..if it weren’t for injuries he might have had a shot at 40 goals this year.

by Crease Monkey on May 12, 2009 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

sure..

it’s just a thought project and an ultimate “what if” scenario.. but it’s still fun to play these games… and we’ve got a few days off.

This isn’t a scenario like picking Lucic or Mason higher than he was expected. Toews and Johnson were the #1 and #3 and both were highly rated and thought to be franchise players.

by Matthew Dirt on May 12, 2009 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Johnson was the proper pick at the time. You can’t anticipate the injury problems that guy has had. The Blues are gonna be a scary team when their D is healthy next year. But i’m so fucking glad we got Toews!!! Dumb luck sometimes falls in your lap. Sam Bowie.

The past is for cowards and fools....

by mdiddy on May 12, 2009 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

I know, I’m just saying it’s kinda pointless at this time. Too early to judge even the top end of the draft as many players take that next step around their 4th year in the league like Zach Parise & M.Green this past year. You look at the picks right after Johnson/Toews…you have Backstrom, Kessel, Brassard…who knows, those guys could be better than Toews or Johnson over the next couple years…Backstrom bested Toews by 19 points this year. I doubt it in Brassard’s case but Backstrom and Kessel are at least in Toews’ league already as far as pure numbers go.

Language Hey guys, just a reminder, try to keep the language clean on here please. Christy’s worked incredibly hard on this site and this is the one thing she has tried to remind us about the most is to keep it a family environment. Thanks

I think all I said was shit and bastard. Guess I can’t post my Parros pic.

Good group of guys, but they are in for a shock when they meet us.

dude

remember the troll(s) that was(were) here? Don’t be that guy. You’re just embarrassing yourself and the fine fellows who run this site.

I think my point was more importantly

we are a profane bunch of mugs on this site. It was culture shock to “venture outside the borders” of this segment of the interweb.

BTW — did you see the female stimulation device in the last Committed Indian? Priceless.

Hats off, gents.

by surveyor on May 12, 2009 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Sadly I didn’t see the Indian from last night. Broke college kid.

I admit I didn’t head over there to actually see anything you said. It was more thinking that if you did something to get banned it must have taken a good amount of trollage (Davey and Co. really had to try hard to get multiple bans.) Now if it was just having a potty mouth then that can be excused. I admit speaking from an uninformed position there. As Lloyd Carr said, “Be sure to keep it within the boundaries of good taste.”

others may refute

but I’m not that big a douchebag. I didn’t get banned. Wasn’t even close to that. I visited as a quote, unquote, ambassador of goodwill. (shit eating grin)

Reporting back from my fact finding mission, I have to say that I now know what puritanism is all about.

Did we hire other people?

Touche

Although you guys did help that cause by putting together some coherent analysis on Team 1040 when I’m sure a lot of people would’ve gone the “WE WON YOU GUYS SUCK” route. I guess thats why a lot of people don’t create quality literature like the CI.

I don't think my comments are out of line

I even apologized for not knowing their standards. If that is embarrassing, well then punch me in the mouth and call me suzy.

Step out and meet some new people once in a while. We’ve got a lifetime to get to know these guys.

I got the idea for that post

watching Taves celebrate last night. There’s probably no way they would have drafted him over one of the Staals, but they might have considered it if they had the chance to see how TJ Oshie and your young captain clicked with the Sioux.

I'm paying pretty close attention to this game right now.

Anaheim has had some really great penalty kills tonight. Khabby is going to be in for a big test if he has to face the Wings with all their shots on goal.

that's what she said

by Sportsgal on May 12, 2009 10:25 PM CDT reply actions

sounds like a game 7 coming for detroit

2-0 Anaheim in the 3rd. Listening to the game feed, I’m hearing Wizzer’s name a lot. Love that ex-hawks are sticking it to scum.

Yeah

It’s close to being over.

Fuck. I was hoping for a possible Saturday game

Okay - Game 7

Hopefully some suspensions. 7 game suspensions…

Yup

You seeing what I’m seeing?

by Option27 on May 12, 2009 11:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Excellent.

What a round! Hawks were the only team that didn’t go to 7 games.

The heart couldn't take it

Thank God.

I guess the Hawks could use some rest after all

by Option27 on May 12, 2009 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Haha yeah the Hawks wanted to make sure they had some fans alive. I really feel for the stuff you’re going through. I missed the home opener last season against scum because of a heart surgery. 18th birthday on Oct 3rd, Surgery on Oct 4th, Watchin the Hawks all doped up from my bed on the 5th. My reaction to Kaner’s shootout goal was like I was in Dazed and Confused, giggling and smiling. Not a bad way to watch a game I’d have to say.

that ending was crazy

Niedermeyer elbowed Datsyuk in the face! I know everyone here hates Detroit, but I fucking despise Anaheim. Bunch of punk ass thug mother fuckers (Wiz excluded). I really would enjoy yelling obscenities in Pronger’s direction if we end up facing them.

that's what she said

by Sportsgal on May 12, 2009 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Pronger is a bitch

I’ve had my share of obscenities thrown his way.

by Option27 on May 12, 2009 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions

There is no one in the league I hate more than Chris Pronger.

Seriously. That guy can go fuck himself.

that's what she said

by Sportsgal on May 12, 2009 11:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Strange, but I hate Scott Niedermayer more than anyone on that team. He a dirty fucking prick and he gets away with it a lot. Someone needs to lay a beatdown on that guy.

by Sean Zandberg on May 13, 2009 12:44 AM CDT up reply actions

agreed

One of my favorite goals of 2008 was the one that Sharp scored against the Ducks then broke Pronger’s jaw on the follow through! 2 birds with 1 stone. Perfect! Too bad the Hawks lost.

by Geoffhawk on May 13, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Ya know...

Wizzer is a lot like Burrish. They’re both really pest-like. They get under your skin (the opposing players, I mean). Maybe that’s why Tallon felt comfortable trading him: he already had a similar player.

by northernsails on May 13, 2009 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Just to throw 1.5 cents into the original post question, the Blues needed some depth at defence over offence. I think picking Johnson was the right move. He just needs to stop golfing.
