Buff is in Luongo's Head
H/T to The Wolf for linking to this article in the comments.
Does anyone read something like this where some guy from Vancouver starts to mock Buff a little bit and you get a little angry? I know we've said much worse about him but it's that "You can't call my little brother that!" mentality.. He's not family, he can't say those things, regardless of how true they may be..
I couldn't be happier with Buff's performance so far..

Yeah
I felt a little bit of that too. At least they didn’t go as far as to tell him to eat another donut.
Nah.
Most of what was said was true. Byfuglien has certainly been a factor in the playoffs thus far, but he only played like this in spots during the regular season. He is a selectively interested player and that clearly goes back as far as he has been playing.
Nobody would be riding him as hard if he had been throwing his weight around in front of the net like this in January. I am actually kind of glad to know that other people aren’t as head-over-heels about him like so many local people are. The people in Vancouver haven’t watched his lulls all season and they know better, yet so many fans in Chicago think he is a world beater.
All that being said, I’m glad he is playing hard right now and hope he keeps it up because clearly it is having an impact on Bob.
I like boobs.
His quote at the end is quintessential Byfuglien.
It’s great that he’s into it now, but the guy just doesn’t really care that much. He just doesn’t, and he’s not afraid to let you know. Part of it might be his backwoods Minnesotan dry humor, except his sporadic play throughout much of the year belies the claim that he’s just being tongue in cheek.
But whatever the reason is for his play lately, be it Pahlsson or the fact he just got tired of standing around looking at the scoreboard, we’re going to need him to keep up the pace. He’s a true difference maker right now.

I was disappointed the article only half mentions his background
he basically grew up in a trailer park and was raised by his grandmother as his mother was always working more than one job. His story is an interesting one, one that is begging for Melissa Isaccson to write it.
Might as well enjoy Byfuglien playing well now. It doesn’t really matter what he did in January because if he played like this in January but disappeared now, everyone would still be riding him.
And if anything, you can’t tell me there aren’t at least half a dozen GM’s right now that wouldn’t want him on their roster, so he’s played well enough to get himself traded. Everyone wins.

I'm glad I finally found out his ethnicity
I couldn’t figure it out and it bugged me sometimes.
Buff’s gonna be on SportsNite in a few minutes, so everybody turn on your TVs!

Oh yeah. That was the other highlight of the article.
It’s the first time I’ve actually seen it confirmed in print. I guess I lose the pool for betting he’s half Indian half sasquatch.

you know
If he’s going to be a guy who sleepwalks through the regular season and is a monster in the playoffs, I might be able to live with that.

hmmmm.........
I’m not sure why everyone rides Buff so hard. Yes, he was inconsistent during the regular season, but so was most of the rest of the team. I chalk that up to the overall youth of the squad. He’s not ever going to be a superstar first line center, but he’s got the size & skills to be a great role player and it is players like him that give a team good depth.
I am glad that he is stepping up his game and playing well in the 2nd season. I hope he stays on the Hawks for some time.
