Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

We Didn't Open A Thread, But Here's Your Place To Enjoy

We should've had a Game 7 thread open, but we spaced on that, so here's a spot to enjoy the fact that Scum blew a 2-0 lead and lost a Game 7 at home for the Cup.  The Pens took their NHL-wide crown, and we're coming for their Western Conference and Central Division ones next season.

Is it Shadenfreude?  You bet it is.  Who fucking cares?

You know what...

I hate both teams, but I love Craig Adams so I celebrated tonight big time. That and the fact that all the loser Detroit fans had to go back to their homes (or wherever else they live besides homes) upset. Craig Adams is a class act which is why I truly wanted the Penguins to win. That and the fact Mikael Samuelsson was on the other team. Its probable that he won’t be back with the Wings next year, and whatever team he plays for I will be rooting against (and I’m praying every night it isn’t the Hawks.) He represents everything that is wrong with hockey. But enough about him…enjoy this moment Penguins fans (and Hawks fans,) because tonight…DE-TROIT SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Also...

Just watched the post game interview with Hossa…Nothing was better then when he was asked if he regretted his decision to leave Pittsburgh. Of course he’s not going to say he regrets it, but we all know the real answer. If I were a Penguins player who was also on last years team, nothing would have been more satisfying to me then shaking Hossa’s hand and just giving him a nice big smile.

Somehow this didn't dawn on me until after the game.

The entire game I was talking about how I didn’t particularly care who won and how I was pulling for the meteor. Then as soon as Adams hoisted the cup, I realized “yeah, I guess that’s what I wanted to see happen.”

Sidenote: any other Hawk fans here who still instinctively mutter “dammit” whenever they see Lemieux with the cup?

by Lost In NC on Jun 13, 2009 10:11 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes Sir

I was thinking the same thing when I saw Lemieux!

That was great last night. How about Fleury’s save at the last second? That was sweet.

The look on Hossa’s face after the game was priceless!

by Geoffhawk on Jun 13, 2009 11:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Priceless moments

Though I feel a teeny teeny bit of sympathy for Hossa now that both teams pretty much hate him and he looks like a complete Doofus, my pity only goes so far. Calling out his team like that to run to the wings was a major bi-otch move. I wonder if this will affect a certain Hawk player in his decision to stay or go? Hmmm

Seeing the mighty Kornhole with his head down sitting on the bench was awesome, especially after the Wings fans clever little photo shop poster of him hitting Havlet. Kornhole in game 7= fail.

Last but not least, the Wings showed me last night that they were the exact team I thought they were. A very good but also very beatable team. You can’t beat them with a half or even three quarter effort, but you can beat them with end to end hockey and a stronger desire to win. They are a tough team for anyone to beat, but I got REAL tired of the fawning over their greatness. The Pens played good hockey against them and when it counted in game seven, the Pens looked a lot hungrier for it.

Classless fans

I really thought Scum would take it, but I was so glad they didn’t. IMO they played like crap for most of the game, and their fans, well they just suck. Do they really feel entitled to having questionable penalties called against the other team, while being outraged at any called against them? And the booing…uncalled for.

Pretty exciting 3rd period though.

If I can't be a good example, I'll just be a horrible warning

by Trixietrx on Jun 13, 2009 9:03 AM CDT reply actions

If you’re talking about the booing during the presentation of the trophies, I think the booing was more for Bettman than anybody else. Someone mentioned in a comment on fromtherink that the Cup should be handed out by a hockey legend as opposed to the commissioner because it’s pretty awful for people to be booing the presentation of the Cup. For example, last night’s game was in Detroit, so having a Detroit legend like Gordie Howe or something along those lines hand over the Cup is a scenario which would have resulted in probably a lot less booing. I know it’ll never happen but it’d be good to see anyhow.

by hawksfan21 on Jun 13, 2009 10:45 AM CDT up reply actions

To take that idea further

I think it would be kinda cool to have a handful of legends who won the Cup on hand at that little ceremony. Sort of like a passing of the torch. The NHL has great history that seems to be put on the shelf too often.

by Mike Martin on Jun 13, 2009 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Bettman views it as the only time people will cheer for him, so he wants to remain involved with it. I used to think the same thing about Blagojevich speaking at the Cubs’ playoff rallies- the only thing he’s going to do that people will approve of.

It would be cool if you had past cup winners from the winning franchise present the trophy to the new champs, the passing the torch you mentioned. But I highly doubt we’ll see that happen.

by hawksfan21 on Jun 13, 2009 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Ahhh

OK, booing Bettman is allowed and in fact, encouraged.

Good ideas, too.

If I can't be a good example, I'll just be a horrible warning

I could not agree more

I am still laughing at that dumb SOB. You want to win a cup now so you say? Well then why would you leave the team that was in the finals, has two of the top players in the NHL (yes, i am not a fan of Sid, but face it, hes got some skill), and a long term deal so the three of you can play together for a long time and (possibly) win more than one. Enjoy choking on that dick Marion, you deserve it.

by Delta0ne1 on Jun 13, 2009 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, how great

Was it for Hossa to go up the handshake line knowing that every Penguin was thinking “Eat shit, you fucking mercenary.”

by AirTrafficAJ on Jun 14, 2009 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Talbot

said before the series that he “couldn’t wait to see Hossa in the lineup to tell him that he chose the wrong team”…haven’t heard yet if he actually said anything to him.

I hate scum, but I hate the whiny bastard Cindy more. She’s got a ton of talent and if she moved out of Mario’s basement and stopped whining about the fact players actually check her, I’d have no problem with her. I will never say I wanted scum to won, but I really wanted cindy to lose. where the hell was the meteor?
As for the booing, I don;t think they were booing the Pens, they were only booing when the dimwit buttman was on the ice and talking, proving that while stupid, scum fans at least know that buttman is the only thing dumber and more evil than they are.

by calvin12 on Jun 13, 2009 10:36 AM CDT reply actions

This.

My hatred of all things Detroit runs pretty deep, but the thought of having to see the Crybaby’s 7th grade facial hair next to the Cup for a full year makes me want to swallow a shotgun. Thankfully he didn’t win the Smyth, we don’t have to listen to any of those douchebag Wings “fans” we all know (who tend be from places like Naperville, Gurnee, and Orland Park) gloat for a year, and we’ll be able to laugh at Hossa for AT LEAST a decade.

by Mike Martin on Jun 13, 2009 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Who fucking cares?

My sentiments exactly. I tried to generate some enthusiasm for the Pens but mostly I was hoping for the Scum to tie it so we could see some OT. At the end I was sadly reminded that the Pens’ franchise now has as many Cups as Chicago in about 1/3 the time. So yeah, hard to get too fired up about it.

I had the meteor in the 7th OT. Damn

Anyone Disappointed?

That the season is over? I know, I know, the Hawks were done 3? weeks ago, but I’m bummed that we know have to wait till September for the fun to start again.

SOOOOOO Glad that Geno was the Smyth award winner, didn’t want that to end up in the little Bitch’s hands

by Roos-34 on Jun 13, 2009 12:39 PM CDT reply actions

and we know we have to wait

It works both ways.

Tons of Scum fans invaded The Whirlaway last night – only a Hawks victory could have made me happier than watching them all go home unhappy. Great game. And I still think I’m the only non-pens fan that actually likes Crosby..

by Killion on Jun 13, 2009 2:05 PM CDT reply actions

I’ll admit I like watching Crosby too. I had on the Hawks garb last night and reeeeeaaaaaaally enjoyed crossing paths with the Scum fans while bar hopping. As I have a pretty powerful stink on for both teams, my celebratory ways were driven by an positively cynical hatred for the Scum. And I was so very tickled to watch it all unfold in the Joe. I can’t believe how pumped I am for next season!

"Call Detroit, tell dem... BULLSHIT!"

by Hungryhawk on Jun 13, 2009 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I was happy the Pens won

If the Scum would have won, then we would have another season of broadcasters ejaculating over how great they are. They are a great team, I give them their props. But the Pens were a percentage point better. To come from being down 0-2 to win 4 of the next 5 is no easy feat, no matter what round of the postseason.

I did feel a little twinge when Mario hoisted Lord Stanley’s gift to hockey, but you have to give him his props, too.

I hope the Hawks entire organization learned something from this series. I think they are on the right track and there are steps to be made to take us to elite status. I also hope the players are still hungry and not satisfied with what they accomplished this year. They did achieve more than I think anyone thought they would but the prize is still out there, now residing in Pennsylvania, hopefully to change to a certain building on W. Madison St.!

Instead

We now will have to listen to them splooge about how Crosby/Malkin are the greatest pair in the history of hockey.

by Mike Martin on Jun 13, 2009 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

it must have

killed Pierre Maquire to see the Scum lose, and I noticed he was a lot more quiet after the first Talbot goal. I definitely wanted to see the Pens win mainly because of Craig Adams but also because I dislike Pens fans less than Scum fans…and since I live in the media market known as “Michiana” I know my fair share of Scum fans. I took a peak at the SBN Scum site for a minute or so and saw Scum fans stating things like “well at least it wasn’t the Blackhawks and their bandwagon fans”… and Bettman was the reason why the Wings lost…because you know..they never get any calls and stuff…and apparently Brad Stuart is the new A.Lilja and they’re trying to run him out of town. I guess it really doesn’t matter how much offensive skill you build if you get teams like the Pens or Ducks who persistently beat the crap out of soft players with hard hits and stifling D forcing the Swedish Elite Wings into turning the puck over at a 2 to 1 clip. Hell the Ducks have 1 scoring line + Selanne who was barely visible in that series and nearly took the Scum out so they’re certainly beatable and they’re about to lose some of that depth to FA. Oh and how do you like them apples Maryanne Hossa?

by Crease Monkey on Jun 13, 2009 7:54 PM CDT reply actions

Great last 35 seconds

That was really a pretty exicting last 35 seconds.Fleury played with a horseshoe up his ass,and the scum fans were Positive their jerkoffs were gonna score.Great loss for the EX dynasty

by idiot man on Jun 13, 2009 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

Exciting finish.

The Detroit loss is all the more reason for the Hawks to now become the dominant force to be reckoned with.

by Black Sox Baseball on Jun 14, 2009 6:20 PM CDT reply actions

The only thing worse than Detroit winning this is what actually happened. I just can’t seem to ever see someone from that dumpy town lose. I’ve now seen the Steelers win 2 recent superbowls whe n they were clearly not the best team. Now a cup when they were without a doubt the lesser team. I even rooted for them to fold aftger the lockout which was largely their fault, and again they continue to advance. This needs to end now. Stop all things from western Pensylvania!!!!
