Second City Hockey Is On The Clock: Help Us Pick in the SBN Mock Draft

I'm busy getting things ready to head off to Montreal tomorrow (I'm really hoping the Lightning draft me!).  So I can't get into much detail about the draft pick for SBN's Mock Draft.

First up - you should head over to Mirtle's site and check who has been taken so far

Then, check out places like Hockey's Future or the TSN Draft page and check some profiles.

Here's some names McClure and I have thrown around (Sam had to get a real job since hockey is over and he's not on the computer all day).

Ryan O'Reily - C - 6'0 - 200lbs

Pros - Irish kid

Cons - Word is he's a terrible skater.

Kyle Palmieri - RW/C - 5'10 - 191lbs

Pros - We need centers

Cons - Has some discipline issues and with Beach and Aliu we don't need any more headcases, though he may have just refused to rat out teammates.. so who know?

Nick Leddy - D - 5'11 - 179lbs

Pros - Great skater, powerful shot

Cons - Umm.. we'll make something up and say he really likes Carlos Mencia

Joonas Nattinen - C - 6'2 - 183lbs

Pros - Tough two-way center, wins battles, gets in front of the net

Cons - Not a great shooter, Listens to Jock Jams to get pumped up (that's actually true)

Taro Tsujimoto Jr - C/D - 6'3 - 210 lbs

Pros - Just about the most complete player you'll find in the draft, can play any skating position, tough to knock off the puck, huge booming slapshot, one of the prettiest skaters you'll ever see

Cons - doesn't actually exist

So vote - comment - tell us what you think and come back tomorrow to tell us how badly we fucked up.

I don't think I'm out line when I say

That “Irish kid” could be listed under Cons for O’Reilly as well.

you’re just a self-loathing mick.. that’s all

Irish

guys are usually one of two things….meathead neanderthal or scholarly barroom philosophical types. I’m going to assume he isn’t the latter so I’ll choose Joonas…we have enough undersized wingers on this team already anyway.

note: I’m half-Irish American

I voted for Natti Ice.

Sounds like the type of player we need, especially if Buff regresses to his regular season self. He’s also Finnish, which is pretty cool, I guess. Maybe he could summon some lake trolls for us.

NOW STOP IT RIGHT HERE

That’s far better than “My Name is Joonas”, which was the only thing Killion and I could come up with for him. Thanks once again for doing the heavy lifting around here.

well.. he is the beer guy. This one was right up his alley… If you can consider Natty Ice beer that is.

out of these guys i’d take nattinen, not only for his good size and skills, but also for the fact that we haven’t had a finn on the team since tuomo “my first man-crush” ruutu left.

although it will get annoying if wasted fans start chanting “yooooooooooooo!” in luongo-esque style whenever he lays a guy out.

We Want Taro!

I’m going with Neddy for two reasons – a) nothing bad to say about him, and b) I can’t bring myself to vote for a Finn who listens to Jock Jams. Versteeg singing Fergie is bad enough.

I can't decide

between Leddy or Natty, but Natty has a cooler name, and I don’t want to get confused with Ladd, so I guess Natty. Can you tell I’m a girl?

And come up with something worthy of this blog when you give reasons for the choice. Please. Can you use the F word?

Or, just to be different, trade the pick, 1/2 the team and get the Sedin sisters.

If I can't be a good example, I'll just be a horrible warning

take stefan elliot, just so you laugh and laugh and laugh at us canucks fans when another vancouver kid scores on us in the playoffs.
