Draft Thread
I don't have much to say about it, but there should be some deals flying around, so here's your place to discuss the Hawks angle with your fellow fans.

Must be something about the last name Kane for hockey players...
That leads to hot moms and sisters.
Pronger...
Has been traded to the Flyers by the Ducks for two players, right wing Joffrey Lupul(notes) and defenseman Luca Sbisa, and the Flyers’ 1st round pick (21st overall) and the Flyers’ first rounder next year.

cue
Danny Briere’s Philly exit. Interesting though as this deal may give S.Niedermayer incentive to leave the Ducks now and if Bouchemin signs elsewhere they are going to be hurting a bit…of course they still have God (Wiz) so they should be ok.
Pierre Maguire on the Vs coverage…click

The only guy
To get booed more than Betteman so far is Brian Burke. I’d like to see those two in a cage with a rusty pickaxe in between them.
Thunderdouche: 2 Douche enter, one douche leave.
Where are they at? My sick daughter is watching Disney. Dad to Douche in 2.6 seconds if I try to change the channel.

just about to post that
and I believe I read earlier that the cap is only going up $100K this season so there is less and less room for JHC

I read something earlier in the week
that the players union have an option to vote in a 2million dollar increase to the cap, and the results of that vote should be in Monday with it most likely passing. Something about a clause in the bargaining agreement where if the cap were slated to go down the players get a one time vote to force a 2 mill increase.

You were right
Found news of the official announcement from yesterday. NHLPA vote must have failed (not sure how, who doesn’t vote themselves a bigger raise when given the chance… oh what, politician… err nevermind.).
Next season’s National Hockey League salary cap will be 56.8 million dollars per team, a 100,000-dollar hike from this past season, the league and its players union announced Friday.

and the pick is
Dillon Olson is the pick…physical, hard, in your face and plays with an edge according to PIerre McScumHonk
aaaaannnnddddd.....
The pick is Dylan Olsen. Seems like a grinding-style D man. See him in about 4 years.
PICK IS IN
And…
Dylan Olsen — D-man, either playing in the Western League or UM Duluth next year. Matt Walker can breath easy. Ish.

2008-09 Stats
HT WT Team GP G A Pts PIM +/-
6-2 206 Camrose (AJHL) 53 10 19 29 123 –
Scouting Report: Boasts very good size and offensive ability from the back end, and is considered more of an offensive defenseman—thanks to a big shot—who can also play the physical game… has committed to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2009-10, following two seasons in the Alberta Junior ‘A’ ranks… needs to work on his defensive-zone coverage, as well as his decision-making, in order to maximize his National Hockey League potential…
NBC Sports
has a blurb on each pick…for Olsen they said
“The Blackhawks went somewhat off the board with this pick – most mock drafts had Olsen going somewhere the middle of the second round. He’s a puck-moving defenseman that will attend Minnesota-Duluth next season. Due to academics, he wasn’t able to get into the University of North Dakota, which means he won’t likely spend too long at school before beginning his professional career”
so apparently we’re not getting the brightest Crayola in the 64 pack if he couldn’t hack it academically at UND. He really does sound like a Barker clone.
Academics
There is book smart and there is hockey smart. Babe Ruth wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed academically. But, he turned out to be a fairly decent baseball player.

3 steps forward 2 steps back
Saw a blog that Lalonde was 2x better than Olsen was at that age and Lalonde was a 3rd round pick what gives?
Blog?
Well if it was in a blog, it must be true. We’re a blog too. And we all know that everything we say here is gospel. The kid is 18. We changed a lot from 18-22. Maybe he will too.

Never said he was bad pick
Hockey writers of Canada rated him midlevel second rd. All i was saying is excuse the blog term, maybe they could have done better.Stan and Scotty Bowman said this years draft will be the most intensive in Hawk history.
Dylan Olsen
Sounds like a very good pick by Tallon and the crew once again. We’ll know more about this kid when he suits up for Canada at the World U-21 Champoinships only then when we find out that if this kid has the tools necessary to compete at the NHL level. Toews and Kane were stars of this tournament and are have parlayed that success into NHL stardom as well as many others. The U-21 tournament definitely reveals whether or not certain players can play at the level desired to reach the NHL. Very rarely does a high-pick that fails at this tournament go on to success at the NHL level. Guess Bobby Ryan would be the one exception.
Olsen looks like a Beauchemin/Orkpik type of player. Not the craftiest of offensive players but a solid defensive defenceman that punishes his opponents at every opportunity which is something the Hawks need not only now, but down the road. Can never have enough physical presence on the blueline.
A good pick from a phenominal Jr.A developmental program in Camrose-one of the best in Canada. Would benefit emensely if he decides to go to Medicine Hat. A better program, and would be more beneficial if he played more games and get more acclamated to a rigorous schedule that comes with the pro level. Something I felt helped Kane a little more and hindered Toews (along with the knee injury) in their rookie seasons. The CHL is much more talented level of junior hockey than the U.S. collegiate level.
Best of luck to Dylan and the rest of the Hawks draftees. Welcome to the fold!!!
