The Fourth Period - Havlat wants a deal soon
"He's unlikely to get the same salary on a new deal, although he could receive a new long-term contract worth around $4.5 million to $5 million per season."

More importantly
What would a deal like that do to the cap?
Depends
Depends on how long the deal is for and the total dollar amount of the contract (excluding incentives). Cap hit would be- total contract amount (divided by) contract term. I heard the Hawks want something like a 6 year deal.
That calculation is under the current CBA, who knows how that’ll change come barganing time.
Agreed.
I almost stood up in my cube and yelled “GET IT DONE!!!!” when I read it.
So you waited until you got out of work?
You’re a better man than I.
Got more soul than a sock with a hole.
Where Do I Sign?
This could usher in the “come to Chicago, play for a champion” era.
From media comments he’s let drop though, Kane may be a greedy bitch next year.
Still, very encouraging.
Sadly,
I could see that happening. To me, Kane seems to have some sense of entitlement. I don’t know for sure, just the feeling I get from him.
Same here
I don’t ever remember him giving any hints or references about his upcoming contract situation…
I just kinda get that feeling he’ll be the tough one to sign though.
Outspoken athletes can never win
I don’t recall him saying anything to that effect but that won’t stop people from making the assumption that he’s a greedy bitch.

Plus he sucks at hockey!
I read it in da pay-pa!
Put on some weight! Play like a man!
Got more soul than a sock with a hole.
Can't put my hands on it...
…but he said somehting recently about how he doesn’t see how this team can stay together.
Look, I think the guy is gonna be great, but this struck me as a failure of imagination. Even if he won’t contemplate a Chi-town discount, maybe he shoulda just kept this one to himself for now.
Patrick Kane has some growing up to do
The Detroit series also visibly illustrated the need for Kane to improve his work ethic and focus on becoming a legitimate two-way player. I would think the Detroit series extinguished some of his arrogance and was a wake-up call of sorts.
Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings ...
Is Sidney Crosby having the same revelation in the Finals?

And how exactly is Kane arrogant?

Easy there Chief
I’m not bashing Patrick Kane. Merely pointing out that there is definite work needed in his game. And yes, I do think he has a natural arrogance about him that is a good and bad thing. Lots of gifted hockey players have arrogance that gives them an aura and even an edge on the ice. But with Kane he needs to back up that arrogance by committing to his craft. What does that mean? Well that means busting your ass down the ice on most every shift. That means also working intently on playing defense.
I like Kane. But I like Jonathan Toews a heckuva lot better right now. That disparity is what I am talking about. There shouldn’t be any disparity in opinion between these two players.

Well I would argue that he's starting to turn the corner
just because you don’t see him ‘bust his ass’ down the ice to your approval doesn’t mean he’s not becoming a better defensive player. In fact, I would argue in the playoffs he became a much more reliant player in his own end, ie not as many turnovers, making the safe play, etc.
Toews is a freak of nature bc he can play both ends equally. Feel free to find another player his age that can do that.

You and I watch a different Patrick Kane on the ice
There is a lot of work needed by Patrick Kane on the defensive end if he is to become a legitimate elite player in this league. Look, I love the kid. And yes, he is only 20 years old. But don’t delude yourself into thinking he is anything close to a complete package right now. It’s up to Kane at this point to make the investments necessary to become the player he is capable of being. It is also incumbent upon Dale Tallon to find the proper physical winger to put on Kane’s line. Easier said than done because those type of skill sets are in shortage right now in the NHL.

I never said he was a complete package
and there is quite a bit he needs to work on, but in time it will come. If not, hey, we still got a legitimate 100 point player. There’s worse things in the world.
Didn’t mean to make it seem like I jumped on you, but we’ve got people calling him a greedy bitch and selfish prick based on imagination. Seems a bit silly to me.

Thing is a semi-agree with the assessment of some of those people
I’ve sat in the seats plenty of times at the UC and seen Kane on TV to understand that perspective. There are diehard hockey purists at the UC whom I deeply respect their hockey opinion who have the same opinion of Kane. I’m not terribly worried just yet about Kane. It’s part of the maturation process that he must go through.
You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little messed up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
I also don't understand
how people can call him greedy, selfish, and arrogant. Where does that come from? What comments has he made that pointed to this? Kane is outspoken and will give plenty of quotes and I think some people take that to mean that he is an overly cocky kid since he doesn’t always deliver a toned down, cookie-cutter, cliche-laced interview like most everyone else on the team. Confidence is different than arrogance.
Signing Marty Havlat is very important
Dale Tallon and the Blackhawks understand that. Hence why I firmly believe a deal WILL get done.
