Could this have anything to due with the fact that he was able to take Luongo off his game?

by Geoffhawk on Jun 30, 2009 1:34 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe, since he’s most likely going to be their #1. Do you think he still cries when he hears Buff’s name?

Think it more has to do with Brian Burke putting the team together

and having an obsession with power forwards. Can’t remember where I read it but I remember Burke saying something along the lines of having some unconventional picks for the team because of all their undersized scorers.

Buff is out of left field though. At least this is proof that the rest of the league doesn’t think he’s just a giant dope.

“More details surrounding the event will be released at a later date.”

Looks like that’s the best we’re going to get right now.

Thanks— realized that the dates listed were weekdays, so I guess I won’t be able to drop by even if it’s open to the public.

Big Fugly!

Seriously, I’m pretty sure most Americans who see any type of significant ice time get invited, if only so they can ice 2 full squads for practices…not to mention, a rash of injuries might make getting a Byfuglien sweater ready. Hell, I’m actually surprised Burish didn’t get an invite, if only to play against the first line in scrimmages.

wasn’t Burish on the World Championships team last spring?

with Wiz

If I’m not mistaken. I remember Sharp hit him at a game or something.

Buff over Gionta, Umberger and Wheeler?

The US team is going to be the youngest team at that tournament

wow, near realized Parise was American. Cool, at least we have one near elite level American born player…if only for one year…although I expect him to remain an elite scorer.

So Kane

Isn’t an elite player?

Anyways, I like the look of this US team. I really think they could be a darkhorse in the Olympics. For the first time ever, it’s not being dragged down by Chelios, Weight, Guerin, and the like. Well, ok, Modano is still there…but I like the team nonetheless.

RE:smarm

EPIC FAIL. So elite players in your book are 25 goal scorers and are excused from defense….record -8s in the playoffs to go along with the team’s worst PPvEL -8.3 and has the same BTN and Corsi ratings as Ryan Clowe eh. Yeah he’s 20… the main factor in keeping him from being an elite player as of now. We’ll know in two years where he stands.

Kane will prove to be an elite player!

Just wait and see my dear friend, just wait a 100-point season for Kaner is in the wings. As for the Wings, stop sounding like a Scum fan and continuously rip Kane at every opportunity. We all know about Kane’s deficiencies in the defensive zone what your providing us is nothing new but the same old retoric, like beating a dead horse. Also in the playoffs, almost every Hawk had a minus rating but still ended up in the Conference Finals, whereas almost every Canuck was a plus but were ousted by the Hawks in the 2nd round. Sometimes the whole plus/minus thing gets taken a little out of context.

Elite Players

In my book are able to singlehandedly take over a playoff game and send the Vancouver Canucks packing. The Sedin Twins (who I would also consider elite players) were unable to match Kane’s production in the playoffs.

The U.S. looks strong...team strong!

O.K. team strong your asking? It looks like Burke has put together a team that will most likely have its core group around the same age with any number of players on any particular line being the go-to line. It looks like a team that can easily bond quickly and has no over-the-top essential #1 guys that if he doesn’t score their team is in trouble. I like their group especially their goaltending with Miller, Thomas, and eventually DiPietro. Yes the Byfuglien pick is mind-boggling but keep this in mind if a defencemen gets thrown out or injured in a medal round game Byff is one guy that Wilson can rely on and put back on D, his versatility as well as his size makes him an asset on Team U.S.A. as strange as that sounds.
Canada will most likely be the favourites, but as in Olympics past its always fizzled into failure and if it wasn’t for the newest version of “Miracle on Ice” with Belarus beating a stunned Tommy Salo and Sweden 4-3, Canada would be still medal-less at the Olympic tournament since the inception of professional athletes included in the ice hockey competition. It will be interesting to see how this goes down this time around for I’m not completely sold on Stevie Y and his all-over-the-map coaching squad. I mean Babcock and Lemaire? Could they two other coaches with more contrasting styles? It’s already starting out to be a complete mess and the players haven’t been picked yet and even then we all know that it will become Crosby’s team and that basically worries me. It definitely a wait and see thing with Canada that’s for sure!
