Take it for what it's worth, but everyone's favorite soothsayer Eklund is reporting that Tallon is out, and Stan Bowman is the new general manager. It could be bogus because it is Eklund, so more on this as it develops.

UPDATE: Mora is confirming it - Tallon is out

Further update - The Fourth Period is reporting it too

QUESTION: Has anyone told Kane yet? Tallon was his first GM afterall.. (had to get that joke in before a Blues or Scum fan got here)

HOLY BALLS! ANOTHER UPDATE: Mora just confirmed the story himself on CSN's SportsNight. He said what was suspected from the getgo, that this had been brewing for a while. However, he did say that there was also some divergence in opinion in the front office regarding player personnel and the direction of the team. It will be interesting to see what comes out in the coming days.

Three things

1. Eklund is a hack. Almost every time he talks about a “rumor,” it ends up being completely and utterly false. If you listen to him you’re a dope.

2. Has anyone bothered to look at the job description for Stan Bowman? No? Well here it is: "His primary responsibilities include all CBA-related matters such as contract negotiations, free agency, salary arbitration, player movement and player assignment. " If anyone deserves to be fired over the state of the Blackhawks salary, it’s Stan Bowman.

3. I’ve followed sports long enough to know there isn’t a single professional team out there (aside from the Raiders) that has an owner dumb enough to fire a GM weeks after he completed signing a bunch of strong free agents, regardless of how much it fucks them over for the cap next year.

Eklund sucks

I don’t care how many “E5” stories he breaks, he still sucks and is a rumor whore. Fuck him and fuck this whole situation.

And of course as soon as I write that

CSN comes out and says Josh Mora has found out Tallon is fired and it will be announced tomorrow.

This is so fucking ridiculous on so many levels, it makes me want to punch the organization as a whole in the face. Why the FUCK would you let your GM make all those moves and then fire him? What the fuck good is that going to do your club? Now you’re going to let a brand new GM step in and clean up someone else’s mess AND work the vital free agent signings for next year? This is a fucking abomination.

To play devil's advocate:

How secure would someone like Hossa feel coming in and signing long term with a GM who has only been GM for a day or two? I understand Bowman has been involved in free agency and such, but attracting free agents by firing the guy who put together a team that overachieved this year and went to the WCF probably isn’t the best strategy. It doesn’t seem like there really is a good time to make this move.

Wow

Unreal timing. Didn’t think this would break at 11:30 on a Monday night. How am I supposed to sleep now?

first Savvy

now Dale…I guess Pat Foley better watch his back because he’s next on the dagger-in-the-back Hawks depth chart. I really find this entire front office embarrassing headed by that glorified marketing director.

I'm seriously pissed right now

I’m not in love with Dale Tallon or anything, but this move is disgusting. Stan Bowman is just as responsible for those FA and RFA mistakes as Dale Tallon. You can’t put the blame solely on one person, especially when the GM has to go through upper management to make those final decisions. The reason the Hawks are in this predicament is because of the organization as a whole, not solely because of Tallon.

I was more excited than anyone I knew when the old man kicked the bucket. But how is this any better? We’re finally spending money and it’s getting our GM’s fired. What the fuck?!?

I cant help but think

this was getting lined up back when they got Scotty Bowman on a consulting deal or whatever the hell he’s getting a check for.

This is so disgusting. Really really poor move.

Meh...

I mean, yeah, it’s weak…but we all saw this coming for a while, and knew it was pretty much a done deal once the RFA debacle happened, regardless of who should or should not share the blame…we still have a good team and a good coach. If Stan can get the big three signed without having to run all the role players out of town, we’ll still win a cup, or three

I do feel for Dale though. This was dirty

Why is this such a surprise?

The writing was on the wall that Bowman would be the future GM and Tallon was in lame duck mode. Tallon is still on the payroll. He’ll be fine. It’s business and Rocky and Mac must feel that Bowman will be the guy to take the organization to the next level. Just like Q replacing Savard. Unpopular for a few weeks, but the right move in retrospect.
