Schedule's Out!
Yay! I know when I'm employed again! Anyway, the highlights:
We knew already that the Hawks open in Finland the 2nd and 3rd of October against the Cats. Over/under on 6-foot blondes Burish brings home? 17?
The Hawks return five days later to open the Joe Louis Arena schedule, and then open the home schedule on the 10th against Colorado.
Vancouver makes their first trip to bitch and yap on the 21st. Marty makes his first return to the UC on the 26th, though he'll be here once in the preseason. The new look Canadiens will be here for the first time in years the night before Halloween, and Toronto returns for the first time since Peter Bondra netted his 500th on Nov. 13th.
Scum make their first visit on Dec. 20th, and the Devils will be here on NYE. The Olympic breaks hits after the 14th of February, meaning that the Hawks have no home games between Feb. 13th and March 2nd (also meaning McClure and I will embark on Feb. 18th on something that rhymes with Begas Crip).
However, the main thing I'd like to address here: Some people during the playoffs suggested we try and organize a Second City road trip, and there are a couple dates we might want to look at: Feb. 6th at St. Louis, a Saturday night, is the obvious one, as there's no home game the next day that I have to be here for, though any of these can be done without me. There are also a couple dates in Columbus that could be contenders, but we have much time to discuss.
Our lives have meaning again.

Time Out.
The first game of the season is at 11 am on a Friday? That’s gonna clash with my school schedule. I’m actually really bummed about that now. Plus I’m not so sure how easy it’s gonna be to wake up the next day (my birthday) by 11.

Don't worry.
Sacrifices will be made. Its all about taking one for the team. The only problem will be if I have an exam that day, which isn’t that crazy of a thought because we have “fall break” so theres no classes that Monday and Tuesday. I’m sure I’ll just be able to take it early or something. Say I’m going out of town for break. Not a chance I’d miss the first game of the year.

Also noticed
that the Hawks are in Phoenix on Nov 5th. Good for them that they will have at least one more season of hockey in AZ.

Holy God
Will you look at the long trips this year?
Circus: Flames / Oilers / Canucks / Sharks / Ducks / Kings. Sharks game at the UC just before that.
Ice Show: Jackets / Wings / Senators / Flames / Canucks / Oilers / Sharks / Hurricanes. That last one is on two days rest, after a long flight.
Only one totally-obvious win opportunity in each trip. Yikes.

The good news is...
…October is ridiculously loaded with home games and easy road games…should get a nice start out of the gate.

What? No one wants to take Second City Hockey to Helsinki? You people disappoint me…

I seem to remember this old 60 Minutes segment
wherein Finns are shown to be so uptight that they have traffic lights at dance halls, indicating whose turn it is (men or women) to select a dancing partner. Scary.
Oh, and I have $2,000 that could be going to some other fun purchases. Like rent.

Who was allowed to make 17 the over/under on Burrish? Should be set on 26…and I’ll still take the over.

If we do St. Louis
I have one suggestion. Second City Hockey poker tournament on a riverboat. In fact, those St. Louis Game Time folks you keep talking about might be interested in a little head-to-head showdown. (Throw in a charity component to make it look better.)

i'm all about a meetup in the 314
i was already thinking about making the trip over from KC for that game anyway. STL has it’s fair share of river boats near the arena.

I just got back from my Begas Crip...
The futures for the Blackhawks winning the cup are at 8 to 1, third best of any team. Unfortunately, I won’t win in time to use the money for Helsinki. Unless anthony Kim wins this week’s British Open…

RE: Finland
I know the NHL schedule makers are just as idiotic as MLB’s but if you’re going to set up a home and home in Finland how do you not bring in the Ducks for Finlanders the opportunity to see their Finnish Flash? Now the Ducks have S.Koivu too…that’s just moronic. No one cares about the Predators in TN, who the hell cares about them in Finland?

on the road trip
Will we have to call each other by our SBN usernames? What kind of nomenclature is used when you meet up at the bar?
I propose name tags with our SBN name first and our names under it.

That's what the posters from SouthSideSox did at our meet-up this summer
Everyone had one of those “Hello, My Name Is” tags with their SBN name and real first name on them.

They’re very hard to come by. I’d be up for St Louis, Nashville, or Columbus. I’ve heard that the drinkin’ is good in Nashville and the land of Buckeyes.

Nashville’s stadium is in the middle of one of the craziest strips of bars in the US. Block after block of bars with music, bbq, and attractive women. Just sayin.

Drinkin' is good in the home of In-Bevweiser too
And you’re more likely to end the night in barfight with Blues fans here.
All 12 fans of the Sex Predators probably won’t care you’re there.

Blues fans are fairly harmless in their own right. They’re like Cards fans- they love their team, they love their city, but are still midwesterners deep down somewhere. I highly recommend Nick’s Pub over in Dogtown for some post-game fun. they occasionally have NHL 93 tourneys during the season as well as “the one-man cover-band”. only place in STL i’ll go out of my way to visit if i’m over there for work.

dec 23rd
Spending the holidays with my boyfriend’s family for the first time on the east side of MI about 45 min north of the city. He promised me if there was a blackhawks game at the JLA around that time he would take me as my xmas gift. Let’s just say, I will test the limits of his family (die-hard wing fans…) when I’m loud and proud at the game :)

Road trip...
I’d be willing to do a St. Louis road trip, I guess (long boring drive, especially when it’s just for one night), but I suggest that it might be easier to do a get-together for a game here in Chicago first.

Victoria Cup
Blackhawks better win. I kind of want this event to be second tier to winter classic hype and expectation. Last year was just the start, this year hopefully pushes this game into something everyone wants to win.
Plus, you can’t go wrong with bragging rights! If anything, this is something to look forward to in my opinion.
