Sources tell TSN the NHL and the NHLPA are investigating what might have been an enormous mistake by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Chicago tendered qualifying offers to several key players this week, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, however the investigation underway is to determine whether the qualifying offers were filed correctly.
If not, there is the remote possibility the qualifying offers could be ruled invalid and the players listed above, conceivably, could be deemed unrestricted free agents because of the blunder."
If they become UFA's Tallon should be fired.... Not sending a registered letter or fax? WTF?
We'll see how this plays out I guess.

Beat me to the punch!
Just read this story about 5 minutes ago and was going to make a fanpost when voila! In any event, it looks bad on the whole organization and may be the final nail in the Tallon coffin for this is a gigantic error. To think the first time some of these players heard of their qualifying offers was at the press conference to announce the Hossa and Kopecky signings is pretty sad. What was he thinking? Couldn’t have been! Mail (it says on the TSN report) is the last resort when the overnight delivery via courier and/or direct fax to the agent(s) involved is not available with plausible reason. Can’t think of how there couldn’t have been?
In the end, the NHL and NHLPA will probably let this slip and nothing drastic will happen but c’mon how could Dale let it come to this? This wreeks of unprofessionalism, seriously? Not a ringing endorsement for a guy on his last year of his contract which now with this fiasco could find himself out of a job next summer. Not even a Hawks Stanley Cup Championship could cure what ails Tallon if all 6 go to UFA status.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!
bah
big deal….guys aren’t going anywhere but to Lou Malnatis for some Chicago deep dish. They’ll work it out.
Word on the street is
It won’t have an effect on anything. They aren’t going anywhere. Apparently it may be the work of a sabotage to get Tallon fired. Not shocking to me since like stated McDonough isn’t big on the Dale Tallon camp.
