In The Words Of Wiggum, This Will Get Worse Before It Gets Better
From Josh Mora's Blog, some plausible scenarios for what may have happened in this supposed RFA snafu that might not actually be.
I have to say, when I first read about this and it dawned on me that it wouldn't be Tallon himself actually dealing with mailings and the like, the brief thought of sabotage did cross my mind, and it's a scenario that Mora suggests, though doesn't claim is what happened, to be clear. I have to say, the more and more I hear and see what goes on above and certainly behind Tallon, I want to toss up my lunch. The whole set-up doesn't pass the smell test, with your supposed "consultant" the father of the guy next in line for the job. It's these kind of shenanigans, a panicky, insecure GM not thinking about the long-term, a front-office not all pulling in the same direction, are the kind of thing -- maybe the only thing -- that could derail a dominant Blackhawk era.
McD and Rocky had better clear this up in a damn hurry. If Tallon isn't your guy, then have the balls to come out and fire him and stop with the charade. If he is, extend his deal, and tell Ol' Scotty he can have his conversations with Mike Babcock on his own fucking personal time. This way clearly is going to cause something to go terribly wrong.

Bowmans and Qman arent nitwits!
Come on what the fuck!Great season last year so lets look for skidmarks in every bodys panties? According to TSN, guys get paid BIG money to figure this shit out.

agreed
this is getting beyond ridiculous. They botched the Savard situation and now they’re doing the same with Tallon. I would say just let Tallon go now, but they’ll probably wait until 4 games into next season to whack him.

Dale Tallon's days are numbered
They have been ever since John McDonough was hired. It has been clear to me since day one that McDonough does not like Tallon. And also clear to me that Rocky is going to defer to what McDonough wants to do in this situation.
Stan Bowman is being groomed to be the next GM. It is the worst kept secret in hockey. Tallon knows it too.
$136 million payroll for a .500 style ballclub. Good work Jim.

This.
I totally agree, I have had the same feeling ever since McDonough came to the Hawks. Personally, they are beginning to show loyalty is less than winning. Fire Savard, though Q is better suited for the job. Snake Havlat for Hossa, I can see why though. Now Tallon? Hmm.

Well
remember the last time the Hawks put loyalty before making smart hockey decisions and winning? Its name was Bob Pulford.

Loyalty
OS dont think Roenick,Belfour,Todd White,Steve Thomas,Terry Ruskowski,Steve Sullivan,Nylander,Secord,Chelly…… would agree about the loyalty part. But A+ on the not making smart hockey decisions. He was a egotistical arrogant asshole.I think he brought in Dale to take the heat off himself.Dale said last year at the convention at a panel with Stan that he doesnt make a move without consulting Stan.If my boss said that, then A. im as smart as my boss or B.retire and give me your job old man.Sorry i got off the topic.

Exactly
All those former players were not shown loyalty by the organ-I-zation, but it wasn’t in the interest of upgrading players. It was poor business decisions that were led by ego and money. I’m okay with letting JHC go because it makes sense from both a hockey and financial standpoint.

A favor
Will you please tell me how it is clear? I’ve watched the interviews, read the press releases and seen what ‘Hawks fans have seen but I don’t see any action or hear anything that suggests that McD does not like Dale. I read about it all the time online (this forum especially) and I have tried to see it but don’t. Please enlighten me with some concrete examples or else I will go on believing that McD is smart enought to listen to and respects Dale’s input when it comes to players and team organization.

I get the same sense as you, have gathered the same opinion.

Too Important
I don’t think the players will become UFAs. The turnaround of the Hawks franchise has been one of the most marketable stories in the NHL. Anything to disrupt their success would be bad for league.

If this doesn't get fixed
Then VERSTEEG is gone, and probably Brouwer too. Somebody is going to throw mondo bucks at them, and that will be that.
What a fiasco.
WAIT FOR THE WHISTLE!

Pulfords bitch
Nothing against Dale greatest, funniest color guy in hockey.Got his start with as Phil Russell described Pulford(the evil cunt cocksucker!)in the bar at the convention last year.Dale took them from F to C-,now let Stan and Scotty take them to A+.Let Eddie O go national and bring back Dale as Foleys sidekick.Everybodys happy.GO HAWKS!!!!!

Would you please clarify your second sentence? I have read it several times and have no idea what you mean.

Sorry
I meant that Dale started his venture for the Hawks under the nitwit Pulford, and maybe old habits die hard.As with Stan Bowman he started with Dad Scotty as his mentor.I had a stroke a year ago hence the nickname my wife gave me,idiot man.Hope im making a little better sense.

Wait A Minute Mr. Postman
The NHL appears to blaming the Canada Post for the snafu and the matter is likely dead.

That's it, blame the postman...
…for it seems the NHL has to find and excuse for letting Dale and co. off the hook on this bizarre scenario. With that being said, it really is a simple mistake and the Hawks by the common sense of the law shouldn’t have to pay the ultimate price for a simple clerical error. Losing Versteeg and Barker to UFA and getting nothing in return would not only be detremental to this year’s club but an embarrassment to the whole franchise. Make no mistake this situation has been a nightmare for the whole Blackhawks organization who’ve appeared to be sqeaky clean since Rocky took over.
According to TSN, the NHL concluded its investigaton and is forwarding its finding to the NHLPA and barring a grievance this will become a dead issue. But it’s in the Players Association’s hands so who knows what will become of this.
This hasn’t been a week a happiness as a Hawks fan, instead it’s been marred with controversial signings (Hossa) or non-signings (Havlat), a diservedly-so disgruntled player that felt shafted by the organization (Havlat), and now this mess of the faxed or unfaxed, mailed or unmailed Qualifying offers to the 6 players involved and who’s to blame game with the Scotty vs. Dale vs. John conspiracy theories. At every turn there seems to be controversy surrounding this team which is humbling since the Hawks amazing playoff run and the strides they have made in re-uniting with their fanbase and all those involved with and/or within the game. Sad really.
Just my opinion, but I can’t wait for this whole controversy to be over and let the prognasticating on how well the Hawks will do this upcoming season begin. For that’s what we should be doing, but instead we’re talking about this. The sooner it’s over (no matter the result) the better off the Hawks will be and can focus their attention back to moving forward.
It has been tough enough at times being a Hawks fan throughout the years, so a situation like this is a little hard to swallow. Very humbling, yet very hurtful as well.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

Uneducated opinion
That this story got out before the NHL knew what it was going to do seems kind of fishy. I have no idea exactly what happened, but if there is any gain to be had piling on that the Hawks are morons, this would seem a good time to do it. If Tallon or whoever really did screw up on the letter of the law, maybe the players union will take up if for no other reason than to make a point. Not knowing more than I do, it does seem the NHL is cutting us some slack. Maybe we’ll never know.
I’ve been disappointed way too many times to assume we are running right back to where we did last year, especially since it has taken over a decade to do that. Still, regardless of what carping/bitching/backstabbing may be going on behind the scenes, the fact remains that the front office put out a very competitive product last year and again this year made some moves that are currently looking intelligent even if it meant letting a fan favorite go. These are not bullshit signings of years past of players who are looking to suck that last million or two out of some team before they retire. Anything at all could happen next year, including having a solid season that leads to the finals. I don’t expect it, but I don’t laugh at it. The drama may not be fun to watch, but then again, that so many people on other blogs are having schadenfreude like we did at the scum with Panda when the lost to the Pens tells me we are headed in the right direction. If we still sucked, they wouldn’t care less.
My gut feeling is that the kids will want to stay anyway after the year we had last year in hopes of getting a cup before heading out for a big and well deserved payday.
