Kane Addresses the Media; We Plan a Small Road Trip
Sorry for the lack of updates lately - but you can only write about Pat Kane punching a cabbie and all that bullshit so much. But just in case you aren't sick of the story yet - Chris Kuc has a good post up on Kane's reaction after the Olympic Training Camp today.
There's a very high chance the trifecta of losers who write for this site will be heading out to the camp tomorrow if we can actually wake up early enough to get out to Woodridge. If you're out there today - consider this your place to write up any reviews.

Freudian slip showing
Kaner twice used the word “privilege,” one time in a sentence that was hard to understand. Anyway, the original point is that “privilege” is Latin for “private law,” or a law that only applies to some people. He uses it correctly when he mentions Vick. There’s my daily supplement of irony!
I was really hoping to go to the camp tomorrow.
Unfortunately I’ll be moving in at school all morning and will spend the rest of the day doing some celebratory drinking….did I say unfortunately?
I haven’t read the article and I was at the UC this morning buying tickets so I missed the presser. For anyone to compare this to Vick is completely unreasonable (if thats not what happened then correct me).

Kane himself compared the situation to Vick’s. Link forthcoming on the main page.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a goddamn shame.
Crap.
I thought for sure it’d be someone like Rozner or ESPN comparing the two. Kane needs some lessons in PR 101.

Maybe I read it differently
but I wasn’t too offended by that Vick thing. He was just saying he kind of knows what he feels like albeit it’s a completely different situation; just that people won’t believe him no matter what he says.

my thoughts...
I got there a lil’ after 9 and the line was along the side the of the building but moving in. I was able to get a seat but was surrounded by older women discussing how hot Chelios is after all these years. The camp started late b/c the bus was stuck in traffic…understandable, it took me forever to get there from Chicago.
Kane came out and was cheered…only a few boos. He tossed a puck to a fan before the drills really started and gave his stick to a fan after his group was done.
Everyone booed Brian Rafaiski from the Wings, some people tried to start the Detroit Sucks chant. (during the regular season I’m all for the Detroit Sucks, but during an Olympic event i thought it was in poor taste.) Chelios was a mixed bag of cheers/boos. He was helping out as a special coach and was showing up some of the players (Big Buff) when doing drills with them.
T.J. Oshie was impressive…he stood out from everyone else.
Most people left after Group 1 was done so they could try to get autographs and/or they only came to see Kaner like the news crews.
Overall it was fun to see all the players on the ice together. Not really anything exciting to see since it was just drills but entertaining and it was free.

The Diary of Kane (so tell me how it should be?)
Just caught the video from TSN.ca and basically looked like a prepared statement at times, while some of it looked like his own opinion. All in all was it really necessary? Did Kane really need to do this? Most level-headed people are reserving judgement until all the details are out and the case is closed and the judge’s decision has been made. All it did was just give the media something to write about (for some it will give them another chance to trash Patrick). Personally, I don’t think Patrick has to apologize to anyone if he is being exploited by a cab diver just looking for a pay-day, nonetheless it definitely seems to be a victim of an individual ‘being in the wrong place at the wrong time’. Only time will tell if Patrick gets exonerated or if in fact when the details are released the story only gets worse.
As far as hockey camps go, supposedly Canada today was to reveal their “new look” jerseys which look exactly the same as the one they have worn the past 2 world championships (Jr. and Sr.) all is removed is the Hockey Canada logo and is replaced by the Maple Leaf with (get this) inuit-inspired art inside of the logo which looks totally out of place. Don’t know what Bob Nicholson and the Hockey Canada crew were thinking about this one for it’s a relatively plain jersey with an abstract art looking Maple Leaf with Canada written below it. Just because the Olympics are in Vancouver doesn’t mean the Canadian squad has to look like the Canucks.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!
The way the media and a ton of internet posters have thrown him under the bus before being proven guilty, yeah, I’d feel compelled to make a statement too- prepared or otherwise.
Remember during the lockout when Huselius and that other Swede got tagged for rape? The team gave him the boot just for being in a compromising situation even though they were both exonerated.
Go USA!
Buff
I was there as well today and my first glaring observation was how much weight Buff lost. He looked awfully slim today.

I agree Oshie looked fierce. Definately the best out there in both groups. Kane an buff came out and signed A LOT of autographs for fans. In fact it looked like they were staying until everyone got one. Pretty cool. At the table kane and buff were signing at, it was right next to the pro shop windows and a bunch of preteen girls wrote a sign that said " kane show us that sweet smile". He saw it an looked over and smiled and everyone took pics. So he certainly didn’t show any signs of being nervous or uneasy IMO.
I caught a puck komasarik tossed to the crowd. Nike showed the official jerseys. The 3rd jersey is an 100% cop of the 1980 us jersey down to the same materials ( the announcer said)
Anyways it was fun, they got a standing room only crowd. And for free it was lots Of fun. Maybe I’ll see some of you out there tommorow.
Also chelios had the worst real/spray tan I’ve ever seen. He would randomly join into the drills, looking like that old guy at the YMCA that thinks he can play in the 20 year old’s pickup basketball game.
Also I agree the booing to the red wings players was kinda lame. It was fun dreaming of throwing water and beer on torts when he skated by.
Chelios
If Cheli would stay on one spot of the ice for too long it would melt. That’s how tan he was.

perspective
I didn’t take the Vick or NHL ’10 cover comments as negative in any way. I think he was just showing that he is beginning to understand the impact of public perception. I think Kaner knows that his status with the blackhawks is the most important thing, but a change (or lack thereof) in the video game cover would be an accurate indicator of public perception.
