Dany Heatley Traded to San Jose - Blackhawks Fans Can Rest Easy
Despite rumors flying all over this morning - it sounds like Dany Heatley has finally been traded. For real this time.
As GracesWinstons said earlier - Darren Dreger of TSN said on twitter that it had become a two-horse race for Heatley. And unfortunately the Blackhawks were rumored to be one of those horses. Ultimately it seems San Jose won the race - sending Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and Second Round pick for Ottawa's left winger and a Fifth Round pick. That's actually pretty steep for a guy who Ottawa couldn't wait to get rid of.
So now Heatley gets what he wanted all along - a first round playoff exit next year.
UPDATE: Here's a look at how the two sides are taking it - Fear The Fin is pretty excited about the trade. Getting Heatley does make the Sharks an even more dangerous team.
Silver Seven Sens are just happy it's all over but aren't sure if they got full value for Heatley.

All I can say is thank-goodness it's over
The tulmultuous ordeal of the Dany Heatley wanting out of Ottawa is finally laid to rest and not a moment too soon. It has dominated the watercoolers around Ottawa since day one when it broke to the media that Dany Heatley wanted out. Unfortunately this saga became way too personal and things were brought up about Heatley (the Danny Snyder incident) that really weren’t called for but I guess that is the price you pay these days when a player of Dany Heatley’s calibre all-of-a-sudden wants out of a Canadian city.
The Sharks should once again be a dominate team in the West during the regular season but what will happen once the playoffs roll around? Dany Heatley is not known to be the kind of player that steps up his game come playoff time and is a plyer that tends to shy away from the traffic areas and physical confrontation. All in all do the Sharks really need another player that is NOT playoff material? Time will tell I guess.
As for the hometown Senators, well…they could’ve done far worse than Michalek and Cheechoo, especially if Cheechoo can regain his form from the 2005-2006 season which seen Johnathan score 56 goals enroute to the Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy.
Michalek is a player with blinding speed with a good set of hands but is yet another player that does not perform well come playoff time. He has all the tools you look for in a player but has yet to reach the next plateau, a 20-25 goal scorer but with his ability should be more of a 30-35 goal scorer which should be interesting if he is on a line with Kovalev for it definitely could be a great line, but then again it might become a “boulevard of broken dreams”. Once again, time will tell is this actually helps the Sens.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

Not playoff Material?
Simply put, I understand where you are coming from but I think 35 points in 34 playoff games speaks for itself.

Hawks61 is right
Heatley doesn’t step up his game in the playoffs. 35 points in 34 games is all well and good, but it isn’t any better than his regular season numbers. He has 543pts in 507 regular season games 1.07/game regular season vs 1.02 playoffs is pretty dead even. Factor in that during those regular season games he is about even Goals (260) vs Assist (283) wise, but in the playoffs he has only 10 Goals to go with 25 Assists. 1.08 in regular season vs. 2.5 playoff Assist to Goal ratio – that is a pretty big swing between regular season and playoffs, albeit 35 games isn’t a lot to go on..

my point was more that while Heatley can at least stay consistent in the playoffs, at least his production doesn’t drop off the face of the earth like the rest of the Sharks.
