Repeat After Me Blues Fans, "Taylor...Hall": Hawks 6 - Dumbasses 3
I take too much joy in writing this, but if this is Davis Payne's (get a first name, fucko) "plan" to reinvigorate the Blues, then St. Louis can worry about the lottery. What a display. Yeah, you go ahead and run around and try and physically intimidate us. We'll take our six goals, two points and go home. I'm sure the mouth breather crowd out there will point to a game like this and say we're not tough enough and we need a heavy. You only need a Cam Janssen if you plan on being down three and four goals a lot. Clearly, the Blues do. The Hawks took the initial storm, dusted themselves off, smiled politely, then went about kicking the Blues ass to Jefferson City.
It's rare on this site that we complain about the refs, which is a good thing. Maybe it's a childhood listening to Tallon and Foley cry bloody murder (before crying for another bloody mary) on every call, but we tend to look other places for talking points than the officiating. But tonight, it was awful. How Jackman didn't get a major, much less any call, for giving the People's Elbow to Kane is beyond me. Was it Weaver who hit Sharp? Yeah, he leaves his feet and charges from Kaufman Stadium, no call. What a joke. And still the Hawks got out of the 1st tied. Oh, and on that 5-on-3 Tkachuk hauled down Madden, but no call there. Whatever. Tkachuk got his, and I sincerely hope he's eating his food through a straw for the next few weeks, twat (I'll regret writing this when he comes back dead in a few hours).
I'm sure Blues fans will scream about the three open nets they missed and the three posts they hit. Well, if you were any good, you wouldn't have missed an open net. Kane missed one too, Kopecky and Keith also hit iron, so that holds no water. Let's be clear, here. I only noticed T.J. Oshie when he got hurt. I only noticed Patrik Berglund when Buff was stripping him of the puck en route to Versteeg's goal. I only noticed David Perron when he was trying to shove Steeg's head through the ice in a scrap like a true man. I only noticed David Backes when he was picking a fight with noted tough guy Jonathan Toews. Did Brad Boyes even play? Erik Johnson continually needed to follow the puck home to see what it eats, such was his lack of control. Other than kicking a puck in, Andy McDonald wasn't anywhere to be found. These were the catalysts for the Blues magical run last year, and these are the guys that new coach Theodore Logan Esquire or whatever the fuck his name is needs to get going now. If he's more worried about the Janssen's and Jackman's and Weaver's, the Blues are utterly and totally fucked. And we'll laugh our asses off.
Sure, Campbell was to blame for McDonald's goal when he got caught too wide. Went and got another one at the other end. Huet looked a bit shaky, but wasn't helped by what looked to be mush of an ice surface. The 4th line was a monster tonight (though Bickell will have to board the shuttle again because Eager assuredly will be suspended for a game for a match penalty that no one can explain). If Tomas Kopecky had completed his hat trick I very well may have shit myself. Hossa was back to being awesome. Toews dropped the gloves to inspire his teammates.
I'm sure someone in the comments will complain about how we act to physical play. I don't know what more the Hawks could have done. They got up, kept coming, and put away an inferior hockey team. You worry about the toughness battles, we real fans will worry about the standings. It's all that matters.
Fuck St. Louis.
Player of The Game
Sharp and Kopecky had two goals each, Buff was everywhere, and Hossa had two points. But when the Hawks needed that kill in the 1st, there was one man responsible for it, and he did it the rest of the night as well. Of course, I'm talking about Catfish:
Brent Sopel
Oh, I almost forgot the most important part:

So...
I assume Keith Tkachuk has an upper-body injury?
Tuned into this right about the time of the second Sharp goal. Guess i missed the shennanigans. I am still trying to figure out what Eager did. Jackman actually threw a punch while they were dancing along the board, not sure how the refs missed it.
Good game anyways, though this trying to injure stuff is starting to make me question why I still watch the sport.

Old time hockey
What a complete turd of a game from St. Louis. If this is what we can expect from them with their new coach, they can fuck themselves till next winter. Won’t even get into the fact that it was a Hawk that got the penalty every time after retaliating for a Blues cheap shot, that’s just the way it usually goes. Davis “Ogilthorpe” Payne can eat a big one. Props to Eager, Toews, Kopezky, and Sopel tonight. Glad we got the two points, get out of St. Louis, they can keep their shell of a town and their goon squad.

Eager's Match Penalty
“Ben Eager: 10-Minute Match Penalty for Attempting to Injure Barret Jackman (Served by Tomas Kopecky)”
That is what is on ESPN Penalty Summary for the 3rd Period. Exactly what was Jackman trying to do throwing his elbow into Kane face, because he surely was not telling him kindly to stop chewing on his mouth piece.

your best game summary ever
seriously, i usually argue that hockey and baseball have the best officiating. A few more efforts like this and i’ll remove hockey off that list. It was clear to anyone who had the gift of vision that the blues had one thing on their mind, injure the hawks. Don’t sell me the bullshit of the “new game” when a team can go after other guys’ throats and not get penalized. If eager’s penalty isn’t minimal and some serious discipline heading the blues way, they can fucking lick my balls. Personally, i think the coach should get some sort of reprimanding for that ass fuck of a game plan. Where the hell is your respect for the game when you’re sitting on the bench with your penis-shaped bald head watching your players go out there and make a freakin’ cliche out of hockey. Yeah, bullshit like that makes a really good movie. You want to keep playing like that in your piss poor squalor of a city? Fine. How about we start taking sticks to your face and rearranging your eyes? Knock it off. Play physical, okay. Finish your checks, you should. Don’t play like the douche bags you did tonight otherwise i hope the hockey gods punish you like they did tkachuk.

While my Patrick Sharp love is obvious around here, that wasn’t clean. For how far he came to make that hit, and jumping, again, ELBOWS OUT, that’s a penalty. Sharp braced himself at the last possible second fortunately to avoid head contact, but that’s a charge or an elbow, take your pick.

just watched the replay of the game on FS Midwest, and while Weaver didn’t quite charge at Sharp from as far away as the Truman Sports Complex, he did take a run at Sharp. Not happy with Barker jumping in and getting tossed, but the Hawks proved they can beat St. Louis with 5 Dmen.
Also, why does Cam Janssen even bother bringing a stick on the ice with him if he’s not going to use it?

Clean huh???????
There’s a difference between a clean hit and a clean play which apparently you choose to ignore. Taking runs at and fighting our goons such as Kane, Sharp and Versteeg should REALLY impress that douche bag of a coach to keep such a wonderfully skillful team together for a playoff run, right? And Janssen’s clean head hunt on Sopel when the game was decided….that ought to make the MENSA top 10 this year. Maybe that’s your playoff strategy……take runs at other teams best players (as long as they’re a lot smaller than you), hope they get injured long enough for St Louis to make the playoffs, curl into a little ball when a mean ol’ big guy like Barker calls your farce and hope all the league refs are as incompetent as the clowns in zebra stripes tonight. Probably the highest probability strategy you have this year. Can’t wait until you try that vs. a team with REAL goons…. Tkachuk won’t be the only one with visits from the tooth fairy.

obviously you guys had the better game, but I don’t think it was as lopsided as the score would indicate. Chicago gave as good as it got in terms of physicality, and CHI got the benefit of some soft goals by Conks. Not to mention 2 goals that bounced off of STL D-dmen. Add that to the posts we hit, and this game would have ended a lot differently. The on-ice game would have looked the same, but an inch here or there, and the scoresheet would have been a helluva lot different.
This should set an interesting tone for the 02/03 game.

dude,
the Blues had no interest in skating with the Hawks tonight. Even as a Blues fan, you have to admit that. Right from the first period, all the Blues were interested in were elbows to the face. Whether or not they can or can’t skate with the Hawks was besides the point, when 8 million penalty minutes were handed out. And they can’t skate with the Hawks, so your new bullshit coach game-planned it that way.
by DirkGrahamKnuckleSandwich on Jan 2, 2010 11:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Bullshit
first off, All of the boys wanted to skate hard and put forth a big effort for the new coach. There was a morning skate, and that’s it. Secondly, NOBODY game-plans for elbows to the face. That’s goonery of Bertuzzi levels, and as far as I can remember, nobody left the game with so much as a need for stitches (except for Walt, but that was a puck). What you’re talking about leads to people leaving on stretchers. Let’s tone down the hyperbole a little, eh? Lastly, there hasn’t been enough time to game-plan anything. So win or lose, there was nothing about this game that would/should reflect on Coach Payne

I don’t think Payne wanted them to go out and play dirty or anything but rather hard, which unfortunately turned ugly – and not just the final score.
There was no Bertuzzi levels of goonery but some overall stupidity from Cam Janssen whose quote this morning after Andy Murray’s dismissal was way over the line and down right stupid.
If Payne does anything he should use Janssen’s dumb penalty that made it 5-2 and basically, for all intent and purposes, put the game out of reach for the Blues and use it as an excuse to put him in the press box. I think you’d agree that’s were Janssen truly belongs.

Janssen's not a total cement-head
although he can come off that way at first glance. he skates hard, provides energy, and doesn’t take dumb penalties (usually). he’s got a role, and he usually plays it well.
If he’s only going to have 4 minutes of ice time (which was the usual with AM), then his spot on the bench would be put to better use with someone else. But, if given the chance to skate some regular shifts, he could be a real contributor. We’ll see.

Great tone setter indeed. So the ’Hawks gameplan for the 02/03 game should be the following:
-The Blues will play dirty and stupid and take lots of penalties and just when they get a little momentum they’ll take some more. Our PP should get some work.
-Don’t worry about dicipline because killing off a Blues is so easy a Sopel can do it.
-Oh, and their goaltending and defensive combination is so good that it’s almost a given we’ll score a touchdown and punt them out of their own building.

Hey, we’re a .500 team. No surprises there. But we are a better team than the record indicates- a few losses were mental breakdowns leading to blown leads. We’re about 2 years behind CHI (in my estimation) in the rebuilding process. But we have the talent to skate with anyone.

actually, I might say the game was more lopsided than the score indicated
Huet and the Hawks D-men didn’t even look at that last goal to try and keep the puck out, because he, Hendry, and Fraz too worried about making sure that Tkachuk wasn’t dying in the crease after taking it in the face. An inch here or there and Kopecky and Sharp would both have had hat tricks, along with scores for Madden, Hossa, and Eager. You’re being optimistic if you think the team the Blues iced tonight can skate with the Hawks.

When the Blues are on their "A" game
they can. You really didn’t see that tonight, only in brief flashes. Understand that this coaching change was just this morning, so the way the Blues played tonight was a little – off the norm. Allow them to play with a stable system in place, and this will be a much more organized effort.

Now that’s a optimistic to think that he can change this team in few short weeks and get them back into playoff form.
Have the Blues been a disappointment? Absolutely, but they may have overachieved last season placing unattainable expectations upon them.
They are what their records says they are and right now that’s 2nd worst in the Western Conference.

I disagree
There’s about 3 or 4 games where we allow a tie or winning goal with less than a minute left. There’s about 3 home games where we’ve blown three-goal leads. That’s not a team bereft of talent .. that’s the immaturity of youth. With the right corrections, we are doing much better in the standings…. maybe a game or two out of the playoffs.
Yes, that run at the end of the year raised everyone’s expectations ’round here … and Murray was the victim of that. But that talent is still there… it just needs to be channeled and developed properly.

Having leads only to lose something a bad team does, rather than getting a lead and keeping it. And it takes a special kind of effort to screw yourself out of a 3 goal lead, not just a single mental lapse.

Come talk to us when the Hawks aren’t statistically an average of nearly two years younger each than the Blues, and when your captain weighs in at the ripe old age of 21. Hawks are 0-2 against Dallas this year, and handled Detroit 2 years ago when the Wings won the Cup. These facts in isolation mean little or nothing.
The Blues may be “two years away”, but that doesn’t mean at all that they’ll be there in two years. Teams can camp two years away for decades.
Oh, and new coach or not, it takes about five seconds to communicate a desire to goon it up. To suggest you know there was no goon game plan is silly and flies in the face of the evidence from last night.

Best. Recap. Ever.
Absolutely spot on, boys.
I’ve mentioned it before on here and it seems appropriate to mention again now…
Brent Sopel is much more important to this team than Cam Barker with the way it is currently constituted. We played without Hammer (all game) and Barker (through 2 1/2 periods) and Catfish stepped up in all facets.
So happy to see Tkachuk lose teeth…can he actually get uglier? And I loved watching this clearly inferior team try to goon it up only to get it shoved straight back up their cornshoot. ………masquerade as an NHL team this evening.
In what had to be one of the most poorly officiated games I’ve EVER seen (two words – DAN MAROUELLI), the Hawks STILL kicked the team from St. Loser all around the rink.
Kane elbowed to the head – NO CALL
Sharp charged – NO CALL
Janssen drops the gloves late in the game (a la Barker after the hit on Sharp), yet he gets nothing (while Barker was ejected and given 7 PIMs).
Toews is crosschecked and goaded into a fight. Where was the pre-fight minor?
And was Eager ejected for kicking Jackman’s ass? Must be a home ice thing in St. Loser…….
All of this and the Lose were offside on their first goal!!!!!!!
Anyway, it was great to see Campbell lay out T.J. O-“he’s a”-shie; never thought I’d see him check anyone, but he totally pancaked that irritating faggot.

An instigator fight/penalty usually results in a 2 min instigator, 5 min fighting major, and 10 min MISCONDUCT penalty for 17PIMs; NOT a game misconduct and subsequent ejection.
I really enjoyed this game. Although there were some dirty hits, it felt like a playoff game with lots of energy.
Blues fans, hats off to you for continually providing sellout crowds despite the Blues troubles. I remember sitting in the United Center basically by myself for several years….Looking forward to seeing Backes and Johnson at the Olympics!!!!!
Great job tonight Hawks. This team seems really tight knit, perhaps since so many of them came up through the system together. I love being able to go to the bar and actually have people who want to talk hockey! Lookin forward to Anaheim tomorrow.!

thanks! That's how I'm feeling about the game, too
By the way … someone listening to the game on the radio said that a CHI player had tape on his hands, in a fight … maybe that’s the extra penalties on Barker??

Barker
If Barker taped his hands, it’s just a ploy to ingratiate himself with the fans who know he suck and want him out. There is no way he is tough enough to even consider taping his hands.
I believe Olcyk looked at the tape for Eager’s hands but there was nothing there. Now some foil, that would be something.

Troy Murray brought this up during the 2nd intermission
During the Dallas-Vancouver game, Darcy Hordichuk laid out Toby Petersen on a similar open ice hit on which he left his skates. Krys Barch came over in much the same fashion as Mike Weaver did and started a fight…Except he gave Hordichuk enough time to discard the stick and gloves and actually fight. And they were the only players to get any penalties out of all it (matching 5 for fighting majors).
By the letter of the law, Barch should have at least gotten an instigator. He did not.
Barker gets 2, 5, and a game.
Now according to Murray, the NHL did address the issue of fighting after clean hits by giving the officials the option to give somebody an “Agressor” penalty and a game misconduct to go along with it. So if that’s the case, then they made the right call on Barker.
But it is yet another case of maddening inconsistency on the part of the NHL.
And personally, I’d rather the league just do away with the ridiculous staged fights, like the ones Barch and Brad May always get into. After their last encounter a few weeks ago, both players were actually laughing. Now I enjoy a good fight as much as the next fan who was raised on Norris Division hockey (I grew up a Hawks fan and satellite TV back in the 90’s gave me my fix) and has been watching the sport for over 20 years. But the fights serve no purpose there other than as a side show.
At least when you go after a player who lays out your teammate on a questionable hit, it serves a purpose. When you start to discourage fighting in those instances, you encourage retribution through one-up cheapshots.

From his recap of the game:
“Keith Tkachuk deflected in a power-play goal for the Blues while catching a stick in the face from Huet. Tkachuk was rushed off the ice for treatment before the final seconds ticked away.”

Apparently Len........
……….can’t tell a puck from a stick. Replays clearly reflected Tkachuk taking the slapper right in the chops while standing in front of the net. Huet’s paddle was no where near him.

honestly..
It’s an honest mistake… I’ve talked about a fourth line pairing for the Hawks blue line and mentioned that a team needed to play a full 90 minutes of hockey before in my posts. You just kind of make mistakes like that from time to time when you don’t have a lot of time to proofread and edit everything you write…

If I didn't have my girlfriend right now....
I would be beating the bishop to that recap!!! You nailed it and FUCK ST. LOUIS! I loved how the Hawks reacted to the physicality. We are tough. But we aren’t retarded. It’s nice having coach Q in times like these as well as kids that just wanna compete. If the blues hadn’t acted the way they did, what the hell else would we say about them? They gotta make the stat sheet somehow.
Just going out on a limb here, but did the “love letter” Andy Murray left on the desk for coach numb nut write “Praise Jesus i got the fuck out of this shit storm, my advice to you would be to tell the boys to rough up chicago as much as possible, rack up penalties, show the young ones at home how to execute a 5 on 3 PP, it would also bode well to piss off the best team in the league, peace out” ….Numb nut’s pregame speech was simple: “Whoever knocks out Kanes mouthpiece will win this here glazed donut.”
Anyways, I’m kinda drunk. Who am I kiddin’, we’re all family here, mostly…I’m obliterated. I do have one more thing to say to blues fans. And that is…SOPEL AND KOPECKY SCHOOLED YOU. Care to comment on that?

You want some Payne? We'll give some real PAIN!
Well, the Blues found out the hard way that if you want to take a shot at the best, you best not miss and miss they did. It’s hard to fathom what the Blues actual gameplan was but whatever it was it really didn’t work or it was pathetically executed as the Blues played the role of the Charleston Chiefs.
-Tomas “The Great Kazzoo” Kopecky with back-to-back mutiple point games? Well, it happened and if he had nailed the trick I might have shit myself as well.
-Cristo Huet also was solid and had the misfortune of a couple of bad bounces of against him in this one but was rock solid when the ’Hawks needed him in the 1st. One save in particular won him the “HON of the NIGHT” on TSN.
-Great to see Sharp get up from that cheap shot and nail a couple in the Blues coffin just to stick it to them.
Great to see that the ’Hawks, after the first period debauchery, were able to steady themselves and right the ship and come away with another much needed 2 points on the road. Time to roast Giguere and the Ducks tomorrow at the UC and take over the overall points lead.
It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

That was pretty fucking outstanding to witness
When this thing got started, I have to admit I was a little worried when I looked around and saw I was the only Hawks fan in section 312. However, things ended VERY well and most of the Blues fans around me were cool. Biggest douches of the night were actually two idiots in Blackhawks shirts (not sweaters) who decided to stand up to flip the bird to the Blues fans in the area while blockings the view of on going play. They were escorted out before they were beaten. A quick note to everyone coming next month: If you’re going to act like this, stay the fuck in Chicago. Not only do you make the rest of us look bad, but I have to deal with Blues fans everyday and would prefer to not be connected with dumbfucks who do shit like that.
Now a few hawks61-style bulleted notes:
- I still say the hit on Sharpie was clean. At worst it was a little high, but that’s it.
-That said, Weaver is a little bitch. If you’re going to hit a skill player at center ice, don’t turtle up when someone comes to make you pay for it.
-Can someone please tell me what the fuck happened on Kaner’s missed open net? I was on the opposite side of the arena. I saw Kane in front of the net with the puck, Conklin behind, and then the lamp didn’t light up. I was confused.
-Toews fighting needs to never happen again.
-I am sad however that Perron and VERSTEEG! didn’t actually throw down.
-Huet looked fucking fantastic when the Blues swarmed (that one time).
-The bad officiating went both ways. Like the phantom roughing call on Walt.
-The next four games between these teams is going to be fan-fucking-tastic.
Chicagoan in the Lou.

As someone who was stuck in the hellhole that is metro St. Louie for 5 years...
and went to more that a few Hawks and Blues games, I was sort of happy to see a physical game. Old skool Norris hockey at it’s finest. When you are playing up the physical aspect there will be times when it goes over the top. Sure some of those calls should have gone against StL but at the same time it was awesome watching Sopel and the crew fiend off all those weak attempts by the smurfs. Oh, Sopel was so good at stopping the puck with his body because he is too slow to get outta the way. MEMO to the Captain, uh please do not do that again, let someone else do the dirty work next time. Be glad that Backass did not drive your face into the ice. Lastly I hope that Tkachuk is okay, he has been a classy player for the most part during his long career and does not deserve to be drinking beer from a straw for the next few months.

Why do I even bother reading Sassone and Kuc?
Thrilled for Catfish, but before we build him a statue next to Jordan, remember we will be painfully reminded from time to time that he is kinda slow and limited.
Soupy may be playing the best hockey of his career- led the team with 27 minutes last night.
Even with Nintendo out, the D didn’t really miss a beat- 22 shots allowed. Dunc n Biscuit killed as usual, except for Keith hilariously falling on his shapely ass. Seebs bogarted some big hits.
Eager has been a force. This guy could yet by a goal-scorer in this league if his brain stays in one piece. His abscence tonight would deflate the 4th line.

Learned a lot about the Hawks tonight
This was the first time they were really challenged physically and I was waiting all season to see how they would react. In the Detroit series they played like youngsters and ran themselves out of the building, tonight they played like veterans and dealt with retarded goons and shitbag officiating without losing their heads. They stuck up for their teammates, killed 7 minute penalties, killed 5 on 3’s, scored a half dozen goals and frankly they took their foot off the gas at the end where they could have had more.
The Blues aren’t much of a hockey team. If only they had better goaltending, better skill players (any?), better passing/shooting/finishing, a few lucky breaks and really, really, one sided officiating they could have been in this game.
The shot of the Hawks bench late in the third said everything about the game, Ladd and Fraser were laughing their heads off and Campbell was singing. These kids have grown up a bit.
And no one’s mentioned the broadcasting gem during the post game Sopel interview when Edzo got tongue tied and meant to talk about the brave men and women “serving their country” but it came out “servicing their country”, which is something entirely different. Bow chica wow wow.

Agreed
I think the Hawks showed a lot tonight. They did a great job of sticking up for each other, not allowing the Blues to intimidate them, and handling the Blues cowardly attempt to goon it up because they can’t skate with the Hawks, even when given 7 mins of power play time. The Hawks did exactly what a great team should do, put the puck in the net and take the two points. they didn’t back down and still kept their focus.
Anyone who says Toews s a pussy is a moron. While I don’t like seeing him get into a fight and risking an injury, at some point ou just have to stand up for yourself.
Great job Hawks.

I tried to read the Blues Blog
But couldn’t, it was that awful. It does make me feel better that all of their game recaps and such only have like 6 or so replies. I’m a Cubs and Packers fan, so naturally I don’t like the White Sox or Bears, but I still find myself able to read their blogs and not be disgusted. In this case, I couldn’t.
I like how the guy thinks he’s Mr. USA, trying to defend what people can or can’t do during the anthem, because i’m sure every Blues fan in attendence stood there absolutely silent.

The behavior on Madison............
………during the Anthem is disgraceful enough, but to think it will translate (in a positive manner) into other arenas is, well, just plain ignorant.

what a game
seriously, y’all Blues fans keep talkin’ your shit. The Hawks not only matched your toughness, but still had class when one of your players got injured. You wanna talk about a real hockey team, just take a drive up I-55 to the Chi. Good management, stellar coach, and a team that can turn up the heat when needed and still shows class during a goon fest.
Fuck you St. Louis. Come back in five years when you might actually have a real team.

Best thing the Blues can do...
…is once the regular season ends, they can get jobs as designated drivers for the Cardinals.

Or,
maybe as cab drivers in Buffalo? They seem to be good at throwing a punch and then calling foul when you hit back.
