You Look Like I Need A Drink - Wading Through More Pre-Season Sludge

Opulence- I has it. But I also likes savings the monies.

For those of us who actually took the time to sit and watch a webcast of last night's game, it was uglier than even your average St. Louisian. Only Troy Brouwer, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Tomas Kopecky dressed of last year's regulars, while the Blues had pretty much their standard roster on the ice. From the middle portion of the game I saw, the play was relatively plodding, with all the goals coming simply because someone had to score.

I missed the two fights early on, first from Kyle Beach, and the second from John Scott. By all accounts, Beach was fed his dick by B.J. Crombeen, and that sadly wasn't even the worst part of his night. Beach would end up an ugly -4 for the evening and looked ineffective doing it- for those of you scoring at home, that's not a good thing for a rookie trying to make a team, first round draft pick or not. With word coming out after the game that Coach Q will be trimming the roster down drastically as early as today, it would seem last night's performance all but put $40 of credit on his I-pass. To add injury to insult, Jack Skille, who has actually looked good for a fair amount of the pre-season, left the game in the second period with an alleged arm injury and didn't return. He's now listed at day to day. It'd be a real kick in the cock for Simple Jack to finally play well enough to stick with the big club and then end up getting hurt to lose his roster spot for opening night. His play has warranted him staying here, so here's hoping the injury isn't serious.

Marty Turco played the entire game and let in four goals, but given the roster in front of him, it should hardly be cause for any sort of panic, even in spite of the fact that Corey Crawford will be playing the entirety of tonight's contest. It's the second night of a back-to-back, so Crawford would be playing anyway were this the regular season. Turco's looked spry and confident thus far in the practice games, that should be the primary concern, not goals allowed when playing behind what's essentially the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Not all is gloom and doom, however, as Viktor Stalberg finally asserted himself last night, putting six shots on goal and registering the secondary assist on the Hawks' lone goal from Ben Smith. He certainly picked an opportune time to do so with the guillotine looming, Skille getting hurt, and Beach peeing his pants.

In yet another spectacular marketing failure by John McDonough and Jay Blunk, tonight's game will once again not be televised. Reports are coming in that there will be more regulars in the lineup, and that Q is viewing these last two as more dress rehearsals for Thursday and beyond than auditions for the kids. Should there be a mass exodus on outbound I-90 today, we'll let you know about it as well, including how it affects the opening night roster

Marty only let in 3

But looked pretty comical on goal #2. I actually LOLd. No worries, tho.

Wasn't goal #2

the one where all three Hawks defenders went toward the guy who was carrying the puck in on the left wing which left the whole slot open for the guy streaking in who got the puck and scored? Not much Turco could have done about that. It was like a mini breakaway.

by stanfordron on Oct 1, 2010 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

yea.

It looks like two of the hawks went to the puck carrier, and then the last remaining guy just let oshie behind him. Turco came out and did like a break dance kick move that was pretty funny. I was like oh shit at first but then i started laughing and it didnt bother me no more.

finally, some games with (almost) meaning

It’ll be interesting to see what the make-up of the team is going to be and how they’ll play together these next 2 games.

I can’t wait to see what comes out of the blender for the 3rd and 4th lines.

knowing tonight wasn't gonna be televised

is pretty much why I decided to get tickets to the game. Meh.

I thought the rookies looked pretty good for the first period. Then somehow things started unraveling. Skille’s day to day so he might just be back in time for opening night.

Photo series above are priceless!

Especially like three… Seabrook and the Penguins and the Olympic Ice Dancing routine, Beach getting a face-full of Crombeen’s fist , and Turco’s epic fail flop on the breakaway.

Great recap McClure… agree with comments on all three forwards. Hope Skille is good to go. We need him to deliver numbers and game like Ladd’s from a year ago.

I thought the next word was going to be “stache”. Phew, what a relief when I read the next word and it was “roster”. Q trimming the roster, I’m okay with that. Q trimming the moustache, not so much.

Some up on Blackhawks website.

But no audio, just video. Kind of odd to watch.

Also, reposting this from previous thread:
Check out the post game interview w/John Scott that’s up on the Blackhawks website. He calls out the Blues for the whole organ-I-zation’s general douchieness. (Did I just invent a new word?)

I’m liking this guy a lot based on this interview alone.

Which one of these has actually stood out?

…….to me and what i have read it has been Morin. Nobody else is turning heads. Alot of the Rockford players have been so-so

IMO I would say Stalberg and Morin.....

I was at the game and there were actually a couple of plays that Stalberg had actually looked pretty seasoned on the ice. He also showed some chippiness by going after turd burglar Cam Janssen with a couple of clean hits.

PMP used to be Sherwood's top stick line, didn't it? Or maybe Louisville?

it stood for Pattern Made Pro (the blade curves were NHL player specifications and the various sticks carried the player’s name)

I was actually at the game Thursday night...

and I can honestly say that the 2 worst players on the ice in my opinion were Cullimore and Boynton. I know that the Blues might as well should have had their normal roster on the ice but the two of them were so slow. Cullimore looked pretty bad in the 2nd period.

I would have to say my highlight of the night was the beating that Brad Winchester took from our Murdersaurus… I took alot of shit for the Kyle Beach fight previously, but when the Scott vs Winchester fight happened you would have thought the Blows fans were watching the Passion of the Christ. I will have to say they are easily some of the worst least classy fans around, total ass hats but I know you guys want news and not history. (hahaha)
