I need help from someone who understands the tagging room issue
Barker’s salary is 3 million. Johnsson’s is 5.3 million. After the signing of the big three, how do the Hawks have tagging room for this trade? Or does that apply with trades?
Also, this fucking KY ad slows my computer so bad I can’t see what I type, but I have to click off the window to see it and make changes. Fuck you SBN.

if he is UFA, as long as they fit under the current cap they are fine right ?

Right.
Tagging room is next year’s cap number.

yeah
I agree with you. But for some reason I always default to IE unless I’m having trouble with it…I don’t know why. I guess there’s something comforting about being a crash test dummy.
You should:
a) switch to firefox.
b) remember, adblock is your friend. Also, it makes the internet a prettier and cleaner place.

Very Small D-corp
I know it’s not like Barker was known for throwing his weight around, but the Hawks D is not an intimidating bunch in the slightest.

Even trade so far...
This all depends on how Barker and Leddy turn out. I think Barker has a lot of potential (which is probably why the Wild went for him) but he’s been pretty meh all year long. Not too excited about Johnsson as he’s basically a smaller Barker + 10 years – potential to improve but if Leddy can turn into a great D-man, we win the trade.
If this is true....terrific deal!
Kim Johnsson is an excellent defenceman that can quarterback a PP (the end of Buff at the point?) and can kill penalties. A great puck mover and is an exceptional skater. Now throw in a 1st round pick that the ’Hawks can either use at the draft or maneuver at the deadline. Make no mistake with the Wild most likely not making the playoffs this pick will become valuable.
Great job Stan.

It was last years 1st round pick
So apparently Tallon and his Chivas were involved in the negotiations
by Bonvie5ForFighting on Feb 12, 2010 2:46 PM CST up reply actions
it's not a pick.
it’s the player they took with their first rounder this year, Nick Leddy. Small dude, but seriously touted puck-moving defenseman. Apparently, homeboy can really skate.

From you’re description, hopefully he can develop into a duncan keith like player
by EamusCatuli23 on Feb 12, 2010 2:49 PM CST up reply actions
haven’t seen him much myself (but looked very good when i have) but word from the Wild Mgmnt is that they “haven’t liked his development at U of MN lately”
by WirtzGMnomore on Feb 12, 2010 2:52 PM CST up reply actions
heard that as well
suppose we’ll see. when all is said and done, he’s kinda a free player in the deal. so much better than getting Wiz like was being rumored.
by Kevin Kujawa on Feb 12, 2010 2:59 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah, but
we haven’t liked the (lack of) development from Barker either. Leddy is 18 and won’t be here for a while. Plenty of time to straighten him out. Barker was here and taking up space. So I’d say that’s pretty even, but we also got our rental. Hawks win.
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

for what it's worth
which probably isn’t much, Leddy is tied for the team lead at +7 as a freshman on a very average gopher hockey team
by EamusCatuli23 on Feb 12, 2010 3:17 PM CST up reply actions
Shit....idiot I am!
That pick is from 2009 which was Nick Leddy. Don’t know much about this kid but it does stockpile the ’Hawks future at the blueline with Olsen and Lalonde. Pretty good depth if you ask me.
Just a start of things to come.

Things I know about Kim Johnsson
1) He’s not Cam Barker
2) He’s not James Wisniewski
So, this trade appears to be a win, right?

I would add...
that even though he’s got a feminine first name, he’s probably way more manly than Barker.
He's the one they call Dr. Karpotsev...
in swedish
his name would be pronounced “SHIM,” which isn’t feminine at all. except that i think it might be a shortened version of Joachim. but who knows?
shimmy on over here, kim
All right, come on, dummy, you won the game. Come on. Pick up your trophy.
I like this deal
This should help us on the PP and I think that Johnsson is a little better on the defensive end as well. As for Leddy, he seems to be a lot like Keith, so maybe being around Dunc a little in camp will be good for him. The best part about this trade is that Wisniewski wasn’t involved.

Love this deal...
A wily old vet for a top pick who just never lived up to the billing.
The reason you never hear Johnsson’s name? He’s that sound. I remember when he signed with the Wild, wished he was a Blackhawk back then (also wished Aucoin was gone sooner than he was).
Here’s to cap space and all the good that comes from it. Maybe we can wave bye-bye to Buff today, too. Cheers.
I hope AJAirTraffic got a photo with Barker in his Hawks jersey!

Great Deal
Johnsson is good enough to give Seabrook or Keith an extra shift or two off a game. It doesn’t sound like much but they’re going to need all the help they can get after the Olympics. He’s also from Sweeden so Hammer has someone to go shopping with at IKEA for the rest of the season.
Add Leddy who doesn’t turn 19 until next month and I can’t see how you don’t make this trade.

Nick Leddy scouting reports
Who does Leddy like among the current crop of NHL defensemen?

per Hockey News
Nick Leddy
ASSETS: Is a tremendous skater with outstanding mobility and acceleration. Can lead the rush and set up teammates with great vision and passing skills. Is willing to initiate contact and take a hit to make plays in the defensive zone.
FLAWS: Isn’t overly big and will need to add significant bulk to his 5-11 frame in order to better handle big forwards at the National Hockey League level.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Offensive defenseman.
Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 1st round (16th overall) in 2009
If his size
turns out to be his only flaw, he should be fine. He’s just turning 19 and still has some growing to do.

Malmö?!
i love Malmö! Ibrahimovic is from malmö, too, and the chicago spire was designed by the same guy who designed malmö’s only skyscraper. finally, i had an amazing sandwich while my girlfriend and i waited on our train to take us to her parents’ farm one day. all of that leads me to believe that this will be an amazing trade.

this skyscraper? My friend took me to Malmo while I was visiting him in Lund. We went to the pier and found a house that was all windows. Good stuff.

Small world, great memories...
I went to school in Versailles, France. On weekends, I bartended in an Irish pub in Paris, where mostly Americans, Scotts, and Swedes hung out. Long story short, I started dating a Swedish gal and eventually moved to Göteborg where I lived for a year with her. (b/f bringing her back to the states of course ;) We spent most of the summer at her family’s summer home / farm in Jönköping.
My favorite memory is of my flickvan’s little innocent grandmother grabbing me by the hair and stating loudly “Gott hår!” (which means “good hair” but sounds like “good whore”) to a large room full of people at a Midsommar Dag party. She didn’t speak English so the joke wasn’t intended.
Every summer there is a concert called “BadRock” which consists of the top Scandinavian pop artists. That summer it was held at the Malmö Castle along the sea and started at sundown. Best venue for a concert ever. It sounds like you two might speak Swedish but if not, “BadRock” literally translates as “bathrobe” and everyone wears one to the concert.
Ah, you two just took me back! Thanks

I ended up studying Swedish for another four years after my year there, but lost my proficiency after I got married.
I will tell you one thing, there is not a bar trick in existence that will impress one’s friends more than the ability to converse with Swedish au pairs in bars on Division Street.
But once I got married…
not so much.

awesome story
I didn’t actually spend too long a time there— when I visited, my friend was knee-deep in his dissertation and I only had a few days (some of them spent in Norway, some in Denmark, because that’s where he wanted to take me to, lol) before heading over to Belgium to visit another friend. This was after I graduated from college and I went to an international student festival in Germany so I thought that was a good enough excuse to spend the rest of the month around Europe. Always felt like I had just a taste of everything, though. Am definitely going back someday.

From what I have heard he seems like a solid d-man… and that makes him better than that waste of space Barker!
Drink it up!
Yeah, I'm liking the move A LOT as I get more info about him
Let’s see…
We got our rental D-man for this season
We freed up cap space for next year
We got a promising D-man for the future
Johnsson eats up minutes and is versatile
The Hawks didn’t give up much at all
It wasn’t a trade involving a goalie

Barker is a classy guy, but really was thinking he would of turned out better. Good luck to him, minus when we play him.
Johnsson is a solid pick up and Leddy I dont know too much about minus what I read.
On another note, curious to see how Niemi does on 3 straight games!
He has already gotten his picture taken in a Hawks Jersey.
His physical was probably today, so I would say yes.
It's THE GOAALLLIEEE!!!!!

He should fit in w/ Sopel nice. He is a good puck moving d-man. I wonder if he will get some PP time?!
