Olympic Hockey Day 1 Thread
Look, we don't really want to work all that hard during this break (as opposed to the heavy sweat we work up when the Hawks are playing. Seriously, it's disgusting). So we'll just open up a thread for all the day's action, and then recap it in the morning or something. Anyway, there don't appear to be too many games worth watching today, but here they are:
TEAM AMERICA, FUCK YEAH! vs. SWITZERLAND: USA at 2pm Central
Jonas Hiller could make this interesting for a period or two, but the Swiss really shouldn't be able to stay with the Yanks for an entire game. If they do, to quote Hawk Harrelson, "THAT'S TROUBLE!". Will be interesting to see what lines the US comes out with. Practice yesterday had the predicted Kane-Stastny-Parise line, which should do some damage. Dustin Brown-Ryan Kesler- Jamie Langenbrunner is a hell of a checking line, so I can only assume Pavelski is playing with Kessel and Bobby Ryan, but we shall see.
CANADA v. NORWAY: 5pm CNBC
Only question here is if Canada breaks double-digits. Luongo gets the start in his home city, but no tears. Apparently Norway's hockey team likes to play like its soccer team. Gum up the works, and punt it long. Won't work here.
RUSSIA v. LATVIA: 9:00pm CNBC
Pretty much the same story as the Canada game.
Have at it.

Curling can be talked about
If it’s on the channel that will have the US game right? Even though the program info says hockey and that it ends at 2, and that curling starts at 2.
wait what?
I'm totally confused by your question.
Are you asking what the scheduling will be today? They’re going to show curling until 2pm on USA (the channel, not the country) then will cut over to the hockey game.
"Another successful interaction with a man!" - Liz Lemon
Currently
According to the cable box and remote, hockey is on until 2, and then curling will be on. However, the truth dictates that hockey will be on at 2 and the fact that curling is whats being shown on my tv screen. But since curling is “taking” hockey’s place in the tv guide, that would make it hockey related somehow right? Therefor, it would be considered on topic if posted about in a thread based on hockey right?
The wording was absolutely terrible in that first post, I have’t quite woken up yet, and the reading of a few hundred comments always saps my brain.
wait what?
When
You have digital cable or satellite tv, you can hit the “Info” button on the remote and it gives you the program description, according to AT&T USA is currently showing hockey, but in reality it is curling.
wait what?
your signature line
is the perfect comment on this thread: wait what?
All right, come on, dummy, you won the game. Come on. Pick up your trophy.
Ughh! US lost to Germany in curling?
I am so pissed that not only am I throwing brooms, but mops, rakes, shovels, and folding chairs across my driveway -
Oh wait. It was curling? False alarm. Everyone please go about your day…

Mine says the same
But it’s just listing the sports that are going to be shown between 11 and 5. If you’re trying to set up your DVR, I would just record the entire block to make sure you get the hockey game.
"Another successful interaction with a man!" - Liz Lemon
Sorry
That was supposed to be a reply to pepe’s last comment
"Another successful interaction with a man!" - Liz Lemon
It was from that
Programming mix-up that curling and hockey were thought about at the same time, which makes curling slightly related to hockey thoughts which would mean it could be posted here at a hockey blog.
wait what?
Wow.
No offense but is english your first language?
"Another successful interaction with a man!" - Liz Lemon
He wants to talk about curling
since it is mentioned in his screwed up Info section on his cable box that also talks about hockey in the same description.
that really is hard to explain.

Good think I’ve learned not to be drinking anything while I read these comments.
Competitive violence, that's why you're here!
I have no way to watch any of the Olympics. Whee.
People are Twittering everything from the Olympics nonstop but except for the opening ceremonies I haven’t really seen any.
1) Online feeds are understandably going to get cracked down on a lot, so you can barely find any.
2) CTV.ca has stuff live, but you need Silverlight and every time I try installing/opening it nothing happens.
3) I think you have to be a cable subscriber to be able to watch NBC online.
4) I haven’t had cable since 2008. It’s like $100/month here NOT counting the premium channels!
5) And, unbelievably—sometime last night, all my NBC TV channels vanished (I have a crappy old TV w/converter box.) Yes, I’ve tried restarting everything, and I’ve hooked it all up in 3 different parts of my apartment (shouldn’t you be able to get the major stations um, everywhere?). It never came back. (I haven’t had CBS-2 since June, either.) I’m not seeing reports of anyone else with this problem. I wonder if I could exchange the converter box. Or if anyone has a cheap digital TV…
Suggestions? I wasn’t planning to watch that much of the Olympics but obviously I’d like to see hockey. I’m guessing I can find bars showing USA vs. Canada (meetup anyone?) and the other biggest games, but other than that I have no idea what to do.

for those of us old enough to have been with hippie chicks
one can get used to that unwashed smell if one is suficiantly inspired and/or longterm deprived (and that’s another reason incense was so popular).
According to IIHF Rankings
The USA is ranked 6th and the Swiss are 7th. This doesn’t sounds much like a game of equals.
1980
The 1980 Team was “one of the most meaningful” US Hockey teams.
Thanks Pierre. Stupid Fuck.

It might be worth the 20 hour drive
just to punch him.

Only the hotel bill from 1998 topped that
unless you’re speaking about the US women’s team, who took gold by beating none other than poor Canada.

I should have left off the 2nd sentence, I guess.
I’m ok with watching one or two games in a bar, I don’t want to have to watch them ALL there…

I think it’s the player who’s actually with the Griffins right now. So not quite NHL!

We define "hardcore" differently
Luge prop bets are probably hardcore, but men’s Olympic hockey seems downright mainstream.

The only good thing about working during the games
Is being able to fast forward through Pierre and the other mindless crap NBC broadcasts other than the actual game. I actually was able to watch the US game in a little over an hour. I had to fast forward through about three hours of curling first – it’s actually kinda fun to watch at like 3x speed.
