Around SBN: MLB Trade Rumors: Edwin Jackson to the White Sox, DC next?

Why is no one reporting on the Huet trade rumors??!!??

With all these rumors swirling around how come we don't have any updates/reports on what is going on, or at least a bunch of links to all assocaited stories?  I know it is the Olympics but even ESPN is sniffing around on the Vokun/Huet rumor??  As well as the defensemen we are going to get and where he will fit?  I am not so worried about VERSTEEG!! going away as we have the depth in forwards, but i don't know what we would do with the glut of defensemen since we already have a pretty good top 4?  More trades on the horizon?   Stan is doing some tinkering at 1901 W Madison.

I think this can be summed up best by "chrome's" R Kelly signature...

Just because your friend says she saw me in the club with some other bitches, sitting in VIP, smoking, and drinking, and kicking it…

Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

Sometimes Huet's stickhandling

reminds me of the Upperclass Twit of the Year scene where Oliver St John-Mollusc ran himself over with his own car…

I suspect that

The fanboys figure that by not acknowledging that the Hawks have an opportunity to upgrade Huet for the playoff run, that somehow the non-negative karma will translate into positive vibes for Huet.

I’m sort of kidding there.

Many posters claim they are tired of the discussion, the beating of the dead horse, pulling out their stats to defend one guy or the other, bla bla bla. It is no longer about Huet or Niemi – it is about creating the BEST chance to win in the post season.

All you need to do to determine what needs to be done to build on last year’s success is to see why we lost to Detroit in the WCF. Not enough depth on defense, and inconsistent goaltending.

We have added to our defensive depth by adding Johnsson, and Sopel is quietly having a great year for us.

Would a deal for Vokoun be an upgrade to our goaltending situation? That should be the question we ask. If the answer is yes, we should hope that the Bowmans are working the rumored deal.

I think all of the available data support an attempt to get Vokoun.

51 starts – a work horse
.930 sv pct – best in the NHL
7 shutouts in spite of playing for a team that is 28th in the league in SOG and the PP
He can steal a game more often than he would ever give one away. And folks – shootout losses mean NOTHING in the post season.

Honestly, there really are no other goalie candidates on teams where we can swap/dump enough salary to to make room for someone. except Dallas or the Isles, and I do not think Turco or Roloson are worth trading our talent for.

It may be that the silence from the front offices on W. Madison Street in response to Teinowitz’s breaking of the Vokoun rumor speaks more loudly than we may think.

by Return of the Roar on Feb 24, 2010 10:53 AM CST reply actions

Speaking only for myself, I doubt anyone will be sad

if the Hawks manage to pull a trade for Vokoun.

But at this point, these are just rumors, and I’ve found little reason to get excited for rumors as they rarely come to fruition.

you can pretty much speak for me too

How does one report a rumor anyway? Reporting something implies there’s a degree of credibility that rumors, by their very nature, can’t exactly claim to have.

And if the original poster and Return of the Roar cared to read through the comment section, then both would see quite clearly that yes, we are talking about it, and actually, we may not mind if it happened. We just. Don’t know how true it is, so maybe that’s why we’re laying off the multiple exclamation points and question marks.

Not impressed with Huet or Niemi...

…but I’m not even sure Vokun is an upgrade, especially if it costs us VERSTEEG!?! (Get over the past 10 games- this guy is a pretty good hockey player.)

Does Vokun look a lot better than Huet did in a Habs sweater two years ago? What is his playoff “track record”?

Are the Devils looking to shore up their goaltending? San Jose?

If his name doen’t end in “iller”, I don’t see ANY obvious upgrade.

by cliffkoroll on Feb 25, 2010 6:25 PM CST up reply actions

I think Vokoun is an upgrade

though I’m not clamoring for one.

Versteeg is gone in the offseason anyway, I don’t see why it is a big deal if he is dealt this year. I’ve said before, right now Steeger doesn’t fit anywhere. He isn’t cracking either of our two top lines. I think madden should center a checking line which shouldn’t include versteeg come playoff time. Maybe he can find a spark on our fourth line with Burish and Eager, who knows.

"Reporting on rumors"

that term doesn’t even make sense. If it is just a rumor, then there is nothing to report. If the SCH guys made a post about every rumor, the meaningful posts would start to get watered down.

Nothing can happen till March 1st anyway, I’m sure there will be trade discussion once the freeze is over.

I think it’s nice not having to debate about the goalie shit for 2 weeks. It will be in full swing I’m sure come Monday before the deadline.

I'm increasingly convinced Stan Bowman will pull off a deal for a goalie

I don’t necessarily agree. But it is my sense he is working on a deal.

Talked with Chris Kuc on my radio show

Says maybe a minor move to give us insurance for Johnny Madden but probably no goalie

Derrick Rose will lead us back to the promise land.

Doubtful

There are ample center options available for this season. Madden is also a goner at the end of the year. Which I’m fine with. I like Madden, but he is strictly a one-year rental.

Vocoun is going to be a Blackhawk

That is my official prediction. There is too much smoke for their not to be a fire. I don’t necessarily agree, but that is what I am convinced is going to happen.

I’d really like to know a whole lot more about Vocoun. We don’t see him much given that he plays in the Eastern Conference. But he has had a sound career. So if the dipshits and doorknobs can put aside their acerbic tone for a minute, can we kindly get some opinion and perspective on Vocoun discussed? This isn’t about discussion of whether the Hawks need a goalie upgrade, but rather opinion on Vocoun.

but nothing about a florida panthers goalie came up, so I don’t have a scouting report to provide.
