USA Vs Canada - Gold Medal Game Thread

I was debating putting this up but I decided to go for it. I know the game already started but if you're looking to talk about the USA women taking on Canada for the gold... this is your spot. After out-scoring their opponents 232-3, the US squad will have a far more difficult time tonight.
GO USA!

The penalties are weird, because they've generally let the girls play this week.
Maybe the refs call it differently when it’s the big two teams playing?

I started a post saying “I’m watching,” when there were NO comments…then my crappy feed disappeared in the middle of that. Yes, yes, I know I need cable, but I need a roommate to split costs with first.

hey! I coached a girls' team
not nearly as long as the variuos boys’ teams, but my daughter switched to gymnastics after a couple sessions of hockey.
I just had family obligations (which included time with the 3 year old granDAUGHTER – who starts pre-hockey this fall).
by krome on Feb 26, 2010 7:27 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
I was born too early
They didn’t let girls start playing “boy” sports (and not even separate leagues, just play on the boys’ teams) til I was about 13, at which age I started falling behind the boys in strength.
So, I went to figure skating while little bro played hockey.
And we always complained cause hockey got the better rink and better ice times.

When one of my nieces (later played at BC) showed up at tryouts after the family had moved
She got to the sign up table and was told “we don’t have any girls teams”
She replied “That’s OK, I’ve never played on a girls team”
She was then told that “we don’t have girls on our teams”
She asked “are you a tax exempt organization?” “And do you to stay that way?”
She made the team too.
Goalies wearing #1 have been good for Canada this Olympics.

aw, I could have been watching this the whole Olympics?
Man, I’ve been posting all over my blog and here how hard it was to find anything. I saw most of the men’s games I wanted to see, but missed the first two with Team USA. And missed the Chicago-area people who won medals, and ALL of women’s hockey till now (which I was actually more excited about getting to see, since there’s so few opportunities to…). And most of the curling, which seems to be surprisingly popular…
But never mind that now—thanks! I don’t mind that I missed the Canadian goals!

The best place to I’ve found for streams online is here:http://www.myp2pforum.eu/forumdisplay.php?f=66
They start a new thread each day and various p2p streamers update with who’s planning to carry what events on that day. Mostly it’s CTV broadcasts. You may need to download StreamTorrent to see some of them, but I’ve generally been able to find a working stream for whatever I want to see. Quality varies depending on who’s carrying it and what the source broadcast is, though.

The women’s hockey has been almost unwatchable, due to the lopsidedness of the games.
So, I would consider this perfect timing for you to have found that feed. Because this is some good stuff!
True, when I heard the game scores I didn’t feel bad I’d missed the earlier games. Well, maybe seeing the first 10 minutes would have been okay…

In this game, it was less about wanting USA to win for the sake of beating Canada/national pride; it’s that I’d hoped a gold would bring more attention to women’s hockey in the US. (i.e., I don’t even know where in Chicagoland I could see a women’s team).

Last month, Small — who’s vice-chair of the existing women’s league — and its executive director, Brenda Andress, met with Gary Bettman in New York City. They pitched their vision of a professional women’s league, which would pay the players $35,000 and be based in cities within driving distance of each other, including Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston and New York.
"My Father's name is Jack, and my mother's name is Daniels..."
Thanks for the link. I’ve visited Boston a few times in the past year and was hoping there was some sort of women’s league there but didn’t find much. I’d love to see that work out; I’d make a point of checking it out on an east coast trip. (On my recent Boston trip I saw the Bruins, of course, plus an AHL game and an indoor lacrosse game. Would have loved to see a college game too.)

I suppose that the competitors would end up costumed like the Star Wars Imperial Stormtroopers
and we’d get to the point where the competition would look like a Saturday night south side gang war battle. I suppose the ratings for that would soar.
And the favorites would all be from East St. Louis
See it all comes full circle – and we finally find a productive place in American society for the Lou.

Along with parts of New York
The Marines had a recent study as to who performed best in their ‘urban warfare’ operations in the ME. The far out superior soldiers were from either (a) “bad” urban areas with gang issues or (b) ultra-rural areas where hunting was thoroughly ingrained in the culture, and the soldiers grew up as hunters from an early age. Both set of soldiers had substantially higher peripheral view and recognition of danger vs. non-danger situations (as compared to all their other categories).
what if you grew up in an urban area
and your dad was obsessed with hunting, so you spent a ton of time out in the woods with a rifle as a kid? would that make you kind of like Jean-Claude van Damme in Universal Soldier?

could there be any douchier of an organization than the IOC
all this horseshit about the celebrating womens team is fucking pathetic.
Why don’t you go take some more bribes and complain about american revenue sharing? Freakin’ moochin assholes.
Agreed
My father is a delegate on the USOC and he says the IOC is corrupt as hell, when Chicago was bidding for the games, my dad said there was no way in hell we would get it just because of the IOC President

I don't understand
Why the IOC would want to deny the Canadians’ their culture (basically Hockey and Beer).
Competitive violence, that's why you're here!
isn't it funny how
the IOC is doing all of this (investigating the drinking, sending a medalist home for “party” pics) in the name of keeping their reputation pristine, and the only thing they’re succeeding in doing is coming off looking like fools.

Nice
Would love to see him back in the lineup. I heard on 670 the interview this afternoon w/ Q that Madden should be back skating tomorrow (not sure if mention before).
Hockey is life! Lets go Hawks!
Keep in mind though, Q also said
Madden could be skating with the team today.

Anyone hopes for an online feed of this one?
…as I’m currently stuck drowning in the Cubicle Sea. With some of the higher ups not here though, it will certainly help kill the remaining hours I have left in this pit of despair.
