Second City Hockey Podcast: Live From The Five Hole
Right, our first attempt. It sounds awful, we sound stupid, and we're pretty sure it's a waste of your time. But we had to get our first Podcast out of the way. So we did. Enjoy:

Does the podcast mention
Giant inflatable beavers?
just downloaded it
for the ride to work.
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too."

finally finished it
my commute was only half an hour so I had to finish the rest during lunch. Like Katherine215 said, it’s a good format and it was a good discussion too. I think McClure sounds a bit like Barker, but that may just be me.

Barker sounds more like
someone having his scrotum squeezed by a bar rat on Halstead. Lung dart squawk requires decades of heaters + whiskey intake to reach the golden level of gravel-voice like Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen.
tremendously tremendous

For Sharpie fans
Eric and Kathy on the Mix are going to have a segment every Thursday morning until the playoffs start with Patrick Sharp. Not sure what time it will be on but it will probably make their podcast.
I just finished listening - it sounded entirely respectable
Well, maybe “respectable” isn’t exactly the right word, but it was certainly good OK.
Great job gentlemen
and I use the term at your discretion.
I still watch the Stevens-Manson fight from St. Patricks Day in the early 90’s – love that segue.
here’s hoping that Kopecky uses his Olympic experience to pick up his game.

Great job guys
I liked the format – recapping the gold medal game, then the interview and then getting back to the NHL. Helped my brain get back to thinking about NHL hockey from my Olympics obsession.
Hawks make minor deal
Hawks get
G Hannu Toivonen
D Danny Richmond
from the Blues in exchange for
G Joe Fallon
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2010/03/01/blackhawks_acquire_toivonen/
Tremendously Tremendous
“Hannu and Danny will add great depth to our Rockford team and will have an immediate impact on their roster,” Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman said. “I am happy with this move because it bolsters what is already a strong IceHogs lineup.”

Too ironic
I just posted a photo of Toivonen on the “A Couple of Quick Things…” thread yesterday that I took at the IceHogs/Rivermen game from Saturday. KofC was at the game too and commented about him
[I] don’t feel qualified to comment on any except the Rivermen goalie, who seemed awfully goodHe looked great throughout the game (had a shutout until 11 secs left in the 3rd), but got lit up in the shootout (Oh noooes, a bad shootout goalie! That sounds too familiar). He’s actually played in 61 NHL games with Boston and St. Louis, but his stats have been less than spectacular to say the least. We won’t be seeing him up the bigs for the Hawks – ever. He’s Finnish so maybe Niemi just needed a pen pal.
Danny Richmond is indeed the same Danny Richmond krome mentioned. He’s from Buffalo Grove and played 39 games with the Blackhawks between 2005 and 2008. He also spent some time in Rockford until he was traded last year. Nothing to write home about. He hasn’t been doing too well in Peoria this year either (I think he’s like a -15). Don’t worry, this was totally a minor league trade. We won’t be seeing any of him in Chicago either.
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

I remember him back into youth hockey
He was in my son’s age group & they played against each other at many levels/stages along the way. He’s good kid – maybe not what we need for the big club though.
Team chemistry
Anyone think there will be some readjusting to deal with now that former rivals are back on the same team and same line? I want to believe things will be fine but it’s a boring Monday afternoon and was hoping to stir up some debate.
I know Kesler
pissed off Luongo with comments about being weak in the net. Hopefully this destroys the Canucks.
Competitive violence, that's why you're here!
I am sure there will be some shit given to Kane by the Canadian folk, but nothing beyond locker room fun. I think they covered it best in the podcast. The Olympians will just be exhausted and need these first two games to get back into the NHL groove before another big test heads into the UC.
I think the Olympians
will raise the level of the rest of the team. So maybe “readjustment” in a good sense. I was worried about the Olympics (no rest, injury), but I think the experience may have been the best thing that could have happened to the young Hawks. We’ll see…

Check out this Fanpost and read the linked article
Toews will not put up with anyone giving Kane shit.

That is awesome!
Toews is really quite a remarkable person. His parents did some good stuff raising him.
I don't know, Kane seems to respond to that sort of thing
maybe his locker stall ought to be painted Silver
that Toews is on hell of a class act though
he could (and apparently should) be our “Captain Serious” for a very long time.
And good for us!
Loyalty
Love seeing that in teammates/friends, and that’s what’s cool about this group; they are friends not merely teammates. Can’t say enough about that Tazer. You’re right, totally a class act. Yet, it would be kind of funny if someone did paint his stall silver. Seems like something Burish would do.
Here's a postgame clip of Kane
It seems he’s as disappointed as Toews, Keith and Seabrook are happy. Personally, I think that’s a good thing.

I brought this up before...
but it is kind of sad how uneducated the British were at commentating on hockey. However it created great quotes such as “…and now the Americans begin a rush up the right side, well, maybe not, it looks more like a considered movement, not a rush.”
You're mistaken. They're not uneducated.
That was just the British being British.

As for the Podcast
Good stuff guys. I like the format, especially the interview section. Good to hear Mora again.
Niemi in net tomorrow
per @NHLBlackhawks. Is Huet ever getting on the ice again?! I know Niemi has some long stretches between starts earlier in the year, but this is over 3 weeks now since Huet’s last start. It includes the break, but it still makes Huet really rusty, which is bad in my mind for any goalie.
With a little luck....
He’ll be the starter for Florida by Wednesday and get all the time he wants.

Any Earmuffs Warnings for the Podcast?
Just wondering if there’s any language that my kids shouldn’t hear. I won’t play it in the car then. My 2-year-old who is just learning to talk (yes, he’s a bit late on that) is starting to repeat everything, so I’m trying to avoid the more colorful aspects of the English language. I’d like him to wait until he’s at least 4 to learn those.
My daughter
reads this blog over my shoulder during games and is shocked, SHOCKED I tells you at the language. LOL
my daughter is always appalled - that some people can't even spell 4 letter words correctly
yup – a future teacher that one.
there's one use of the word fuck
that I remember. Unfortunately, I don’t remember when it was said.

I thought the podcast was solid for a first run
I will be disappointed if there aren’t more.
You guys should have me on to talk about some of the concessions changes at the UC, I’ll give a full review of the new food, tell you what sections to get different kinds of beers, etc.
"In an ideal world I would have all 10 fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching."
Podcast was great
Looking forward to the next one.
It seemed to flow really well, didn’t sound scripted at all; there really no dead-air pauses I would have expected from a first go. Thought the interview was great too.
Subscribe on itunes?
Will this be possible? I can’t find it there now. I did download it from here, looking forward to listening to it in the AM. You boys do great work for all us Hawk/hockey junkies. thanks again.

My thoughts.
Please keep in mind that the following criticisms are couched in an overwhelming feeling of OH DEAR GOD YES THIS WAS AWESOME AND YOU SHOULD DO THIS SHIT WEEKLY INSTEAD OF TWICE A MONTH
-BITRATE! Maybe I’m a just an audio whore but it sounded like it was encoded at like 96kbps. Minor quibble. I listened to the whole thing and will continue to in the future, but, when you’re dealing with just people talking, it’s really noticeable (in my ears, at least).
-Pop screens for mics? I know it’s not like you guys are at a fancy recording studio with pro gear, so again, a minor gripe here, but there was a lot of wistled “S” sounds which is likely just a byproduct of whatever you guys were recording with.
Don’t have much to complain about other than that. I’d personally prefer if this were a weekly, 2 hour podcast, but the 3 of you sitting down for that long to talk would start to become quite a financial burden (beer), so I’ll take what I can get.
The format is good. Simple and open enough to allow for digression but regimented enough to actually feel like more than 3 guys shooting from the hip. I liked the Mora interview, and the mere fact that you had an extended and properly conducted interview with Jim Mora makes up for the quality of the audio on his end, which I am sure is a bitch to capture in the first place.
Basically, what it boils down to, is that if you guys just went ahead and did this every once and a while as-is, I would await each episode with baited breath. If you make a few minor tweaks/improvements to the quality of the production of it, though, I think it could be something special.
I think it’s safe to say most everyone who reads the site yearns for the kind of talk it seems only you guys can provide, so whatever it is you guys post here will be well received.
I like boobs.
I still haven't finished listening
But I liked what I did have time for.
