actually,
I think the TOR might be the youngest, after those trades. not sure where that stat is kept, and I’m not enough of a masochist to do that much math.
Also, i said immature, which is not the same thing as young. related, but not the same. We have a couple of key players that did not spend any time in the AHL, developing, but were fast-tracked to the NHL. Oshie, Berglund, and Perron among them. That matters.

TOR vs CHI
In Forwards (based off NHL’s site)
TOR – 26.08
CHI – 25.71
In Defence
TOR – 27
CHI – 26.14
In Goal
TOR – 28.5
CHI – 28.33
Granted the two don’t have the same amount of players on the same side of the puck so the mean is roughly as follows:
TOR – 27.19
CHI – 26.72
This is just extreme layman math. But the Hawks are a little younger but it isn’t (as you can see) a very large gap.
Come on children. Let's all go find us some nice white women to go make love to.

2.) I saw the other night on the internet that the Democratic Republic of Congo is an awesome place to vacay. I’m planning my trip as we speak.

honestly, though, that’s not restricted to the Blues. Kane prolly does that to most defenses.
EJ has got the makings for a monster D-man, but his early season promise has faded a bit. I don’t know what’s up with him.

It's not immaturity at all.
Look at the ’Hawks in 2007-2008 they were the youngest team in the NHL and yet just missed the playoffs by a mere 3 points. The problem was inconsistant goaltending and a Toews injury that derailed that team, not immaturity.
The Blues lack leadership and elite players. They have a ton of 4-6 forwards but no TOP 3 talent that separates the contenders from the pretenders.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
i disagree
I think the talent is there, just not developed, fully, yet. Chicago is about 2 years ahead of the Blues in the rebuilding process (i’ve said this for a long time). The passing of Dollar Bill helped, of course.

by CrossCheckRaise on Feb 3, 2010 10:56 PM CST up reply actions
You’re further than that bud. A lot further because you took a offensive minded defenceman instead of 2 young leaders in Staal and Toews. You also could’ve had Backstrom as well. That misplaced #1 pick has sent the Blues back years my friend.
Even the Oilers, who look like a lock for the #1 pick, would be ahead of the Blues if they get Hall.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
not hardly!
You build from the Goal, outward. Unfortunately, goalies are harder to forecast, and take longer to develop. We’ve got some good ones in the system, and our D is the deepest part of our prospect pool. As they grow, we can add the forwards as we go.
.... formerly "Tim" of StLouisGameTime.com
by CrossCheckRaise on Feb 3, 2010 11:07 PM CST up reply actions
I hate that notion from the goal outward
You need a top flight offensive line. The Blues don’t have anyone that jumps out at me that will ever be that. There’s no Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Backstrom calibre players on St. Louis.
You need to score to win and without those players the Blues will never become as succesful as they hope.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
Oh, you do need them
but they come last and play soonest. they require the least amount of “seasoning” in the AHL (or whereever). So, you start your building in the back end, and work UP to the forwards
.... formerly "Tim" of StLouisGameTime.com
by CrossCheckRaise on Feb 3, 2010 11:22 PM CST up reply actions
You and I will disagree with that.
I like offensive firepower then build around that like the defending Cup champions did with Crosby and Malkin.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
au contraire
look at their first round draft picks:
2000 – D / Orpick
2001 – RW/ Armstrong
2002 – D/ Whitney
2003 – G/ Fleury
and then 2004-2007 were all C’s

"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
well, sure, I'm not saying they don't count
I’m saying that Pitt (the model for rebuilding a franchise) also addressed from the back end and moved forward. Luckily, that coincided with the arrival of Sid and Geno.
Those guys (and Ovie) are practically once-in-a-generation talent. I hope that there’s something even close to that available in the next few years.

Someone to say: “Absolutely. The Blues absolutely an up-and-coming team that reminds us of the Hawks in 07-08. They’re just immature but when they figure it out next year, watch out!!!”
Seriously, if that is what you want, and I know it is, head back to St. Louis land and let your fellow fans say it to you, because no one here is going to. Here’s a tip: don’t troll on opposing teams’ boards after you beat them in some poorly-disguised attempt to “make nice” so we’ll say positive things about that sorry excuse for a team.

The only reason I'm bothering
Is because I really can’t stand it when people bend over backwards to elicit compliments from others. It really, really pisses me off. Are Blues fans so insecure about their team that they have to have a 50 comment discussion on an opposing team’s blog in an attempt to get a positive comment from said opposing team’s fans? Who the hell cares?!?!
you misread my intentions
I like talking puck with the opposition, especially with rival teams. After the last game, i said, here, that we ***could*** skate with the ‘Hawks. Everyone scoffed. Now i’m just adding a little rivalry-laden “that’s what i was talkin’ about!”

all they have to do is put their skates on and make sure they keep their balance on the ice. Using their sticks should help a lot! Slow and easy strides have done the trick too.

I would but then I would have to explain what a "sentence" is.
A lucky bounce (Seabrook’s leg, Ladd’s shank pass) is the antithesis of skill (Kane’s backhand magic, Toews undressing the Blues).
oh, I thought it was something more like
“I hate my major and my advisor is a jerk. I’ve decided to be in antithesis mode for the rest of the semester. Who’s going to the bar with me?”

Well, that was an excellent way to give up 2 points wasn't it?
Let’s try to play only 2 periods of hockey and see how successful we’ll be? It must be this team’s mindset of late as must be impossible to play 60 minutes. Impossible.
The PK outscored the PP once again, the goaltending was average once again, Seabrook and Keith had another carnival wheel of a game once again, and Kopecky looked like a fuckin’ fowl on skates once again. It’s getting quite annoying and quite frankly this has to end come Friday the sooner the better. Then again this might have been the last time this team (as is) has played together.
Next on the dockett the Coyotes who should be licking their chops at the chance of pouncing on a struggling hockey team.

It's the NHL
And even the greatest of teams stuggle at one point or another during the season.
Whereas, the Blues have struggled the whole season, especially at home where they ranked 30th – that’s dead last – in home victories with one coming in Stockholm.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
hold up
“struggled the whole season at home” – yes.
We have a decent road record, though. Except for one rough patch early on, we’ve been a pretty much .500 team overall, mostly on the strength of our road record. Win one, lose one. Nothing that championships are made of, sure, but not complete sucktitude, either. just, MEH….

When was the last time the Hawks did not play the trap?
The league has figured it out, and we have seen the past 5-6 teams use it quiet well. The Hawks need to get the puck through the zone another way. They stil get the occassional odd man rush, but not the speed they are used to for the rest of transition.
If it works don't go and F*** it up!
"SQUIRREL"
by Toews-makes-funny-faces on Feb 3, 2010 10:22 PM CST up reply actions
I think that the
lack of size and physical play is catching up to the hawks. it seems to me that most of the teams have figured out that playing the trap and eliminating their speed through the neutral zone really stymies the offense.
Overall
It’s the lack of intensity and having to face the other teams best every night that has probably drained them a little. Maybe this was the ultimate wake-up call.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
Our 4th line
Was just thinking, we’ve been counting on our 4th line a lot, and let’s face it, with Bolland just back, and Kopecky still out there, they just weren’t what they usually are.
That doesn’t explain the defensive screw ups, but it does change the team as a whole. I’d expect a lot of improvements on the 4th line (starting with removing Kop) as Bolland gets his skates back.

I was unable to watch this game due to various reasons I’d really rather not go into. Reading these comments, I get the impression that 2 and/or 82 totally screwed the pooch in the first or something.
All right, come on, dummy, you won the game. Come on. Pick up your trophy.
I was there
but haven’t read comments or wrapups yet. it does seem to be the consensus (from watching and listening to WGN after) that Keith had one of his worst games of the year (and on his own bobblehead night, for shame!). it was more problems with the defense than with any goalies I could mention, and lots of shots that just didn’t make it, their goalie was quite effective.
