Hey, a disgruntled first fanpost!!
...except I've actually commented here before, I'm not showing up just for a goofy fanpost. And I think I've commented often enough for people to get that I'm being silly with this piece. I mentioned in a game thread the other night how I'd just seen something I'd never seen at a Blackhawks game, something very upsetting, to be revealed here. All photos taken by me at the end of games.
first Blackhawks game and first time in United Center, thanks to friend visiting from Boston. great game with lots of goals (and fights).
vs Calgary Flames, 1/4/09 HAWKS WIN! 5-2
for various reasons didn't get to any more games last season. skipping ahead to fall 2009:
vs Edmonton Oilers, 10/14/09 HAWKS WIN!! 4-3
vs Minnesota Wild, 10/26/09 HAWKS WIN!!! 3-1
vs Montreal Canadiens, 10/30/09 HAWKS WIN!!!! 3-2
vs Los Angeles Kings, 11/9/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!! 4-1
vs Colorado Avalanche, 11/11/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!! 3-2 SO
vs Toronto Maple Leafs, 11/13/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!! 3-2
vs Columbus Blue Jackets, 12/1/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!! 4-3 SO
first away game, first (only?) visit to Mellon Arena
vs Pittsburgh Penguins, 12/5/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!! 2-1 OT
vs New York Rangers, 12/9/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!! 2-1 OT
vs Tampa Bay Lightning, 12/13/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!! 4-0
vs St. Louis Blues, 12/16/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-0
vs Boston Bruins, 12/18/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-4 SO
vs New Jersey Devils, 12/31/09 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-1
vs Anaheim Ducks, 1/3/10 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-2
first visit to TD Garden, and first 100 level seat, but that was just for the last 5 minutes of play, next to the friend who took me to game #1, when his friend left early
vs Boston Bruins, 1/7/10 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-2
first visit to Nationwide Arena, first away game in the division
vs Columbus Blue Jackets, 1/16/10 HAWKS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6-5
vs St. Louis Blues, 2/3/10 HAWKS W-wait, wait, they just...did that thing that isn't winning. Lose? LOSE? THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!! They only win when I see them!!!
Yeah, I had to see them lose eventually. I was tense wondering when it would happen. It's not seeing them lose that bothered me (yes, I'm well aware may of you have seen many losses by this team)--it's that it's the end of the streak! 13 months, 17 games, 4 cities--all wins. (I wrote more about this on my blog with the title the greatest winning streak in sports is over. Um, yes, hyperbole.)
I thought if I'd seen win #18, I'd be going into a win-win scenario for the game in St. Louis tomorrow (I happen to be too broke this weekend to drink as much as I feel I probably should): either it'd be win #19, and people would buy me drinks to celebrate my continued status as a good-luck charm. Or it'd be my first time seeing them lose, and people would buy me drinks to help me cope with the shock. Okay, that's what I WANTED to happen...
Oh well. Time to start over. I no longer have to feel weird writing a sports blog from the perspective of someone who's never watched their favorite team lose. I no longer have to deal with the friend who took me to game #1 spending time calculating the absurd odds of me witnessing a win at every game. (I always wondered about this. I mean, either you'll see a win or a loss, but doesn't the fact that you're likelier to see a win against certain opponents affect this?)
Anyway, if you have any stories of winning (or losing) streaks you've witnessed for the Blackhawks (or other teams), share them. Or suggestions to help me get over the shock...

Disappointed because I’m making the team lose now? Wait, you posted that before this one ended. It’s even worse!

It's all your fault.
The first ‘Hawks game I ever went to was a loss (to the Thrashers, no less), so, you know, I’ve always had zero expectations of a personal win streak.

I had a win streak going for a long time with baseball home games—Cubs, Sox, and in other cities. Then it ended in Cleveland…
I’m used to seeing home teams lose in minor league hockey this year. It was just the Blackhawks that broke my heart…
Obviously they’re now on a downward slide because of me somehow

My first game was a SO loss to the Oilers
I blame my active social life for this current three-game skid. I haven’t watched a game all week, and I won’t see tomorrow’s either. All of SCH, I’m sorry. I’m very sorry. Except I’m not sorry at all.
All right, come on, dummy, you won the game. Come on. Pick up your trophy.

my winning streak of attending Blackhawks games
…overlapped with a streak (oh wait, still going on) of not having so much as a date or anything resembling one. I’m guessing that’s not the case with you…

clarification
recent games, not last season or off-season, which was fine. I missed games then too…

Who said anything about dates?
Other than me on previous threads. But lately, now that the weather’s cold, it’s most been playing pond hockey that’s kept me from watching the Hawks. At the end of the day, I’d rather play hockey than watch hockey.

oh, not that I was assuming that was all you were talking about…but dates DID come up a few times before, I was in a bad mood when I wrote that, probably.
I’ve never played any sports whatsoever, but oddly I’m finding myself wanting to. I’ve only tried ice skating once in my life. I’m willing to try again soon, but for a team sport, I’d like to try broomball, actually (I saw it in the downtown rink in Cincinnati and that looked like fun).

I played broomball a bit when I was in college – it was quite fun. Except that time we played the girls who obviously were all involved in sport on a regular basis. They checked! It hurt to sit for a week after that.

I've had pretty good luck with my teams winning when I go to games
I think the best was the end of the ’08 baseball season. I went to three Sox games in a row:
- 9/28, last game of the season vs. the Indians – win
- 9/29, makeup game vs. the Tigers – win
- 9/30, tiebreaker vs. the Twins – win…Sox in the playoffs!

I'm at seven
straight games the Hawks have won that I’ve been at. So if they lose tomorrow, I guess the hockey gods are against us.
Ooh, we could have a contest tomorrow to see who takes the most pictures! < /nerd>

My streak of 9 straight is still alive!
Hopefully my winning streak with the hawks will continue…. My White Sox win streak is very impressive I have never been to a losing White Sox game in my 23 years on this earth! 36-0! Hopefully this trend continues! Also I have been to 3 Cubs games and they have lost all 3! LMAO!

yea I love me some White Sox!
Yea I guess I am a youngin…. I havent been to too many hawks games in my life but I love going! I got my first sweater in 1991… It was a white Roenick Jersey… My favorite player considering we have the same first name and same initials! My first Hawks game was an exhibition game at the UC. They played the Wild in their first season as a team! The hawks won that game and have been trying to go to at lest 1 game a season sence…

Oh and even tho that jersey doesnt fit me anymore (child large)
it is still hanging up in my room next to my Ed Belfour Autograph and my Patrick Sharp Autographed puck! Awesome story about that Belfour Autograph. It was the night of the NHL All star game. We were at a Wolves game we recieved the tickets for Christmas… and Belfour was sitting two rows ahead of us at the game! My dad talked me into asking him for an autograph so I did… All my mom had was an envelope so he signed that… My mom framed it with a card and I have had it hanging up in my room ever sense! That was the night I truly fell in love with hockey!
Drink it up!

Wow!
36? Damn, okay, you kind of have me beat there. Hawks won the first 17 times I saw them as I said, and Bruins (who I do like) lost all 3 times I saw them (two games to the Hawks).

The winning streak is back! ONE and counting!
Even better, it occurred to me this morning after seeing last night’s win in St. Louis, I have a perfect record with seeing Blackhawks away games—Pittsburgh, Boston, Columbus, and St. Louis.
I did get some free beer on both the pre- and post-game visits to the bar with the SCH crowd, but none of that had to do with this post. People were just too drunk and including me in their drink-buying somehow…

Now that you're on a winning streak
The Hawks can trade you for a better goalie or a tougher version of Patrick Kane.

I had a good long one...
While I only had a quarter of our family’s season tickets for the hawks (never used all of em), would get to a few Sox games a year (even some cubs ones too), plus the bears, bulls, and wolves, in my entire 25 years of existence on this planet, I had never once witnessed a single Chicago team lose live, until my White Sox lost to Boston last season while I was sitting in the club level….I was crushed. I havnt been to a Chicago sporting event since (mainly due to work) but I will be in Columbus watching the Hawks on Sunday, so its time to start a new streak

At any rate, I’m pretty embarrassed about this whole thing…I was just trying to joke around with mjthor on the other post, and feeling a little sad this fanpost was going to get buried under the newbie complaining ones…

Don't feel embarrassed
I doubt anyone thinks you’re more attention-seeking than they did beforehand. Besides, you’ve been around here long enough that you deserve a greening.

The whole problem was
you ended on a loss. So here I am ready to rec, and then I get all bummed (and personally disappointed in your abilities – which you’ve since fixed), so I forgot to rec when I first read it.
