Not about the Super Bowl
A little back story, and then I'll get to my point.
A friend of mine up here wanted to watch the Super Bowl. So, we met up at the old Forum, which is now some shlocky movie theater/restaurant place* and had a drink before going downtown to watch the game. We went down to McClean's on Peel, but all the seating was full, so the two of us kept wandering around, trying to find a sports bar. Eventually, we ended up at La Cage at the Bell Centre, which was a great call.
The place was crowded (although it strangely emptied out before the second half), but we were able to find a seat. Right after we got there, Chris pointed out a guy wearing a Hawks third jersey (the old black one, not the Winter Classic style). I should stress, I was not drunk, although with the Super Bowl on, I was feeling brazenly American and maybe a little homesick, so I asked my server if I could buy him a drink. Which I did, and then he reciprocated. We never talked, but we did toast each other across the room.
So, to Blackhawks guy at La Cage, if you happen to see this, thanks for the drink. The cognac was a great choice. Go Hawks!
*On a completely unrelated note, how depressing is that? I mean, the Forum is one of the absolute greatest sports arenas of all time, certainly as great as the Bernabeu, and a hell of a lot better than that Cathedral of Greatness Bought: Yankee Stadium. And what do they put in its place? An ugly building with weird architecture, a few seats from its glory days placed in a strange configuration, some CH logos spread around, and dance music piped into the atrium.
