Anyways — hope that asswipe with the horrible moustache gets his. (Sorry — it’s early for me, and the name of that douchebag for the Flyers escapes me.)

Look for an irrelevant stat about the Hawks record in Philly, only to find out they’ve played there 6 times in 15 years, or something.

The Reanimation of Huet
Due to his, at times, substandard play Cristobal Huet has been chronically suffering from the Ppr:kt syndrome always looking behind him paranoid. Will today be the day he finally morphs into the goaltender we hope he’ll be come April and beyond? It would be nice to finally end this debate, but as the Niemisis continues to impress and the Huet Theory continues to battle with consistancy this question continues to be raised. Time to put it together buddy.
The Flyers are still the Flyers and if the PP can finally put away the CLOWN SHOES this could be another game in which DLR can make another performance.
Who knows if things get out of hand on the scoreboard maybe we’ll see another battle like the Broadstreet Brawl back in 2004

That wasn't the problem alone
She was singing while backed by a more traditional instrumental of the song. So as she would drag out one note, she’d have to sing at double tempo just to catch back up. If you want to sing a different arrangement of the song, that’s just fine, but make sure the music is properly arranged too.
Tremendously tremendous

"SQUIRREL"
by Toews-makes-funny-faces on Mar 13, 2010 12:33 PM CST reply actions
the NHL rule probably says something like “a 2nd period may be played between the 1st and 3rd periods at the discretion of the officials”
but then the 3rd becomes the 2nd
so we’re still fucked

it's questionable...
but i tend to think the bad 2nd periods come after dominating 1sts. It seems like in a few of those games we should have been up by4 after one. since this is actually competative, i think they’ll bring it

Nice first minute of the PP for Philly
a lot of puck movement, Richards waited for Brouwer to overplay the passing lane and get caught out of position, and brought it down low. Good thing we stopped ’em, but maybe the Hawks can take a lesson there.

Huet
He played well today. 2nd goal went under his pad, but at least he didn’t flop automatically. Other two were impossible to stop. If he played like this 8 or 9 games out of 10 no complaints. Maybe Q finally lit a fire under his ass. I hope so.
Seabrook cripes WTF is wrong with him? He injured or something? Dumb tornover on goal 1 and his guy scored the game winner cause he was too far behind PRONGER?? Gimme a break. Guy has sucked ass for a month now.
Kane was on the ice for goal 1 and had the puck in the offensive zone on goals 2 and 3 before losing it both times and getting to the bench before Philly scored on the rush back……else he’d be -3 today.
4 on 2 goal with 10 seconds left in the game on the road? That’s just “don’t care” hockey. Hope it’s one game only.

I just chalked it all up to everyone on this site being intense Blackhawk fans who were/are really pissed about such an completely f’ed up loss.
this will be my only post today...
FUCK. SHIT. FUCK. SHIT.
Not sure what the hockey specific technical term is
but our opponents usually seem more hungry. Been that way since the 3rd period v Min. on 1/9. They were talented and hungry most of the season til then. Except for brief snippets, they haven’t been the same team since.
i find it funny
that when huet loses, more excuses are made and D is blamed than for any other player on the team. Whether it’s blaming fans for Huet’s confidence or the D, Huet loses and apologists abound. The bottom line is that he doesn’t win. Period.

I might be one of them.
Phil. got some bum they picked up off wavers who made some great stops in the 3rd period (and won the game for them – #1 star?). Huet played a very good game for 58 minutes. Both goalies dealt with many defensive breakdowns. Only one team won.
Seemed like that was Ghost Soldier’s point before you jumped on him.

Chicago Native Son
thinks he’s the room monitor. Say something bad about Huet and he tries to make you think you’re a lunatic. Nice when people go to a blog to post their own comments and think it’s the God’s truth coming out of their keyboard but think that anyone with a different opinion should just “shut the fuck up”, ain’t it? YOOHOO…it’s a BLOG…meant for different opinions and discussions right or wrong.
That said, I’m not Huet’s biggest fan but I think today Huet had a very good game and yeah, the Hawks let him down. No frigging excuse to be caught too deep in the offensive zone and let a 4 on 2 go the other way on your goalie. That was pathetic and few if any goalies would have been able to stop that play.
/sigh
husler, you pulled the same crap and I didn’t jump on you – the whole board did. You’re just bitter that I got the best jab in. You told Chi to shove it, you said SamFels article was RIDICULOUS and argued with the whole board over your opinion that Huet sucks/Niemi is the best because he is a better shootout goalie or something like that.
Fight you’re own battles (I do), don’t piggyback on someone else’s comments because you have some pent up issues.

Good Points
Man you have a good memory. OK…here’s (eventually) a truce offering
1) If you look at my “shove it” comment closely, it was IN RESPONSE to being told to shove it…I guarentee you that. Read the previous comment if you can still find it.
2) My shootout comments – That was a day that I thought Niemi won the game for us (2 in a row I believe) by stopping 10 or 11 shoot out attempts in a row. I just thought when EITHER goalie plays good, they should get some props….not the keys to the city, but a pat on the back. Sam Fels, whose hockey knowledge I respect greatly (and pay to do so!) wrote nothing good about Niemi that game and said something to the effect “and don’t bring up shootout nonsense, they don’t matter” (memory quote; maybe reworded…but you get the gist). THAT to this day I think is a ridiculous comment when rating goalies. It DOES matter cause thats the rules and points and won/lost during shootouts. Does being a good shootout goalie make you better that Patrick Roy? No, of course not. But like today, I gave props to Huet…he played very well. Was great to see. When Niemi plays well, I think Sam should write an occasional kudo rather than ignoring and minimizing his contributions. That’s all.
3) I don’t like comments like “shove it”, “shut the fuck up”, " go google “Higher Education during the Inquisition” or “The Holocaust, A jewish conspiricy” so you can be with people of your own ilk, etc etc. (you thought you were the only one with a memory?) No matter how dumb or disagreeable a hockey related post might be to me, it’s a blog and everyone should be able to come out and enjoy posting/defendinga point of view w/o name calling. Sarcasm, ignoring comments, calling a position (not an author) dumb…yeah sure fine.
4) That said, illinikc33 has a VERY good point below. Following the spirit in your response, I apologize and will try and avoid needless name calling and blog in the spirit of fun and discussion as best I can from now on.
Peace?
/internet man hug (gonna vomit again)
I thought we found our middle ground a few days ago, so your comment was a surprise to me. I have enjoyed your recent posts and as you know even rec’d them. My comment in that thread was FUNNY (c’mon admit it) and sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. So yeah, peace bro.
On a different note, yes, Illinic33 made a very good comment, but even he or she just a couple of days ago replied to someone’s opinion “Are you really fucking serious? Do us a favor and log out permanently.” and had to be told to “chill out”. So none of us are above it.
Although I don’t believe Illinic33’s comment was directed at me, it was very good advice. I personally don’t mind being STFU (I don’t like it, but I know when I deserve it), but I’m sure it’s not pleasant for most and definitely gets those people you actually want to shut up to be even more vocal. I get riled u when someone attacks the board as a whole, but although I know the result is a no win situation, my fingers get ahead of my brain. Sometimes it’s the timing of a comment and today’s was really a case of very bad timing of an insulting comment.

i just haven’t been able to get past the ‘goals in bunches’ pattern for huet. if he gives up a goal and the lead swings, he almost immediately gives up another. the bottom line for me is that he hasn’t proved capable of making the big save to bail out his D on occasion. so many excuses are made for that guy… blaming fans for booing- like he’s a 4 year old taking it to heart. if he does, he’s a child and incapable of manning net in the playoffs.

It's a "goals in bunches" pattern for Niemi too.
So wouldn’t that make it a team thing? Niemi has been pulled a couple times after giving up goals in bunches, too. Common denominator is the team.
I don’t understand booing your own team; to me, it’s the antithesis of being a fan. but I don’t think anyone here has said the booing is to blame for bad play. Most comments (that I remember) seem to question the point of it.

There’s nothing I want to see more than Huet go 60 minutes regularly standing on his head, ending up with 5 or 6 shutouts, and the Hawks soaring through to a parade down Michigan Ave in June. I want him to succeed, I’m just not feeling confident in him.

But it was Pronger who scored. The Philly forwards were covered by the D, it was a Hawks’ forward who blew the coverage.
Not that the D played all that great otherwise, mind you . . .

but I think it’s just a way to have a subject when you’re too lazy to think of one. In a way it’s like a preview of what your post is going to say, so others know when to avoid it…
because of course
goalies are the only players that can decide games. You don’t need to actually score more goals than the opponent if your goalie is good enough to win games.
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too."

But my point stands about making the big save. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but i wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t a pattern with Huet- he gives up goals in bunches, he sulks when he gives up a lead, and he’s just not inspiring confidence in a large number of fans right now. It’s just opinion.

OK, that is opinion
we’re on the right path.
Huet made some very big saves earlier in the game and positionally had one of his best games of the year IMO. If he doesn’t make those saves early, we’re down 5-2 instead of up by 1 with 2 mins left. The D left him off to dry there. Huet is the guy who should be pissed at the rest of the team, not vice-versa.

you honestly didn't see the 5 or 6 big saves
that he made throughout the game? He’s capable of them, and he does them, and he’s never going to be as good a goalie as Brodeur or Miller or Luongo, but it’s a little unfair to rail on him today because he didn’t win them the game. He’s not the reason they lost today. This is why everyone’s jumping on your throat. There’s blame to go around but we’re tired of having it always fall on him. We have no illusions of grandeur; we know what he’s capable of. Today, when he stepped up his game, his defense let him down.

that's a discussion for another day
and frankly, one I no longer have the energy for.
All I’m saying is give credit where credit is due—if there was anything that kept us in through 3 periods of sloppy defensive play to prevent a blowout from happening, it was Huet. We’ll call soft goals what they are, but don’t take his good performance away from him.

I agree
But this whole thing just gives me the draft that Grossman used to. The fact is that we don’t have a goaltender that I’m comfortable with going into the playoffs. We have to go with either the hot one or the one the team plays well in front of. Niemi seems to be the netminder by default right now. We’ll see how he does against the best team in the league tomorrow.
by Ghost Soldier on Mar 13, 2010 2:57 PM CST up reply actions
It is what it is
If the playoffs began in December, would you have felt more comfortable?
It’ll sort itself out one way or another, I think, but there’s a lot of pressure on the Hawks right now. I get the feeling no one will be satisfied with less than a Cup, but the road to Lord Stanley is hard and far from guaranteed, and I’m sorry, but it is never won by goalies alone. We got as far as the WC with a goalie averaging a SV% below .900. The goalie with the highest SV% had his team eliminated in the WC Semifinals. Injuries can happen. Luck can change things. The top teams right now all have problems going into the playoffs and this is the fun of the game.

starting to think
that a lot of Chicago fans are beginning to think they’re entitled to the Cup this year, and oh, it would be theirs if it weren’t for that damn goalie issue.
Our chances to make it far are fairly high, but they’re just that—chances. The team still has to fight and claw their way to the finals before they can even try to compete for the Cup, and they’re going to have to figure out a LOT more than just how their goalies should stop shots. People seem to forget this, and as a result, direct so much more vitriol than necessary towards the goalies.

That's why it's called the "bandwagon fallacy"
bandwagon fallacy: in Latin, argumentum ad populum (“appeal to the people”), in logic, is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or all people believe it; it alleges, “If many believe so, it is so.”
I have no problem with “the bandwagon” per se, but there is a sense of entitlement, in general and by definition, that comes with bandwagonism. I think the other half is being a Chicago sports fan. We expect the worst and therefore look for everything that could possibly go wrong.

The man standing in net has no bearing on Seabrook blowing his defensive assignments today.

Unfortunate.
Reading the comments and following the game threads used to be fun. See, e.g., Luna Schnozz, Unlimited Mullet Potential, etc. Now it’s descended into a clusterfuck of squabbling children. It is of no surprise that a certain type of individual is the one to continually start this nonsense on these boards, but that was to be expected I guess. I have no problem with people getting pissed off at players and having competent, rational discussions about said players, but the meatheadedness is a real, real turnoff, something akin to smashing my face against a brick wall over and over again.
I will be the first to admit that I joined the squabbling many moons ago (though have since quit) in an effort to stop the unwashed masses from crying DOOOOOOM after a couple poor performances, to no avail I might add, but I’ve since realized it’s a worthless endeavor. Some people won’t be satisfied no matter what.
I know I am not an epic presence on this board like some are, but after following game threads throughout the season I have noticed a marked decrease in participation from some of the level-headed regulars as well—-it is not a coincidence, I assure you. Hopefully everyone will have purged the negativity from their systems come playoff time, and I can once against bask in the glow of the Mullet Potential.
Cheers all. But I will keep reading the recaps :)

You're right
I was being reactionary and probably made what was going to happen due to the comment a lot worse. In my defense, I was pissed, but it’s no excuse. Thanks for being “bigger than this” and putting things in perspective. Point taken.

I’m reading this late, but it’s obvious that Ghost Soldier was looking for a fight – and at a really bad time. He made some ridiculous comments (the Huet laughs behind his mask when he gives up a goal comment, ripping on Huet right after chevrier posted “Mouth breathers will blame this on Huet”) which I assume you saw and was part of your reaction to his 3rd insulting comment. The rest looked like him back pedaling. Bottom line, if you don’t want to be perceived as a troll on a site, don’t show up and start posting like one.
I was surprised to see one commenter use the opportunity to gang up on you since I noticed you recently almost single-handedly rolling out the welcome mat for them after their rough entrance on this site. But it looks like you guys made things right. I personally don’t see anything wrong with your comments, they’re normally quite entertaining. Maybe STFU was harsh, but as was mentioned, you did say “Welcome to the site” first! (which is a courtesy most wouldn’t have offered if you didn’t comment first)
I'm not anti-social; I'm just not user friendly
Comments everywhere have been tough to stomach lately.
I pretty much sift through comments here now. I pretty much skip comments all together at other blogs, but there are definitely still some good ideas from commenters here that are worth reading. I miss the rally mullet days.

I'm going to rec this...
…not because I think it’s a good thing you’re fading into the background, but on the off chance (or infinitessimal, perhaps?) that some people will understand what you’re saying and make amends.
Not worried......we are the team to beat
In a play-off series we would dominate Philly……..I actually like the current goalie rotation …every other game
"Trying is the first step towards failure" Homer Simpson
REally dude?
not worried at all???Im shittin bricks over here becuase i’m so nervous…..has the Huet bashing started?i didnt read any posts yet, other than illinikc33’s and the last two….I thought the ream blew this one, very much like the Detroit game, thought Huet was good enough to win,Philly just beat the Hawks plain and simple…..Just when i think the Hawks have gotten their act together, like against Vancouver they blow it,just like against Detroit….then they go ahead and beat a good LA team, even though they didnt dominate they played a tight tough game, playoff like, and those are the games you have to win,and then they go on and play like this today against Philly, not bad but not good either, they were average, and Philly is an above average team….and now comes Washington tomorrow, another tough game
The only thing I’m hoping is that this team gets its act together the last 10 games or so,if not,and they decide to play like this,it is going to be a short run in the playoffs….
Seriously dude?not worried at all?really? :)
I don't often agree with you,
but I do here. This team gave up today. That doesn’t happen with the cup on the line.

your conversations fuck with me
it’s like watching the Sedins pretend they’ve got things that differentiate them from each other.
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too."

Worried No, Concerned yes!
Between the Defense and Goalies, teams are finding allot of wholes to exploit. The other teams force the D into playing to their weaker aspects, and are very good at pouncing when they do brain fart. At the begining of the year, by the time a team recognized a gaff, it was quickly neutralized. Now teams are forcing these gaffs and are capitalizing on them. This needs to be fixed. They do not happen all the time, but happen enough to cost games. Couple this with average not great or poor goalies, the results are bad, like today.
The O is not bad, it is handling the trap decently now, though not great, but better. I’m not concerned their. But the other end, I’m not feeling very good about how they have played the past while, even before the break.

Needed to take a break from COMMENT WAR (today's version)
Allow me to introduce a point for consideration:
Everybody needs to play better. The team, as a whole, needs to improve.
See, the thing that I’ve seen since the break — and you have too — is the Second Period of Doom. That didn’t happen today. Instead, we get treated to a dreadful end to a (frankly) middling performance.
The goalies need to get better and more consistent. (You saw that today from Cris. May it continue.) The defense? My God — that has to get better. The offense has been the best phase of the game, but the power play (apart from the breakthrough today) has been dreadful lately.
Team sport, team effort, team improvement. Let’s not argue about who killed who (/grail) — the point is that this team has to decide what its intentions are and (hopefully) take corrective action. Now.

And may I add:
Take a look at team stats for a second. Shots allowed per game stands at 24.4. No other team in the league is even close. Devils are second, at 27.4. The D needs to regain that form — not allowing turnovers, playing tight on their men and creating turnovers, etc. etc. etc. We return to that, and things will get right, quickly.
But also: Shots made per game? Again, tops in the league, comfortably (34.3, versus 33.0 for the Caps in second). We had plenty today too, but the D creating turnovers as opposed to forking over the puck will improve that line further.

Agreed
Since the break, some part of the game has fallen apart at some point in most everygame, and it has cost the Hawks dearly. Not one aspect has been solid and consistant since the break.
Hopefully this is just a funk, and we will see Huet and Niemi go on a roll with DLR ripping it up everynight. Thats why I have concern, not worries. Every team in every sport hits a funk period, hopefully that is all we are seeing.

Hope Niemi Get a shutout tomorrow
and we can argue who the best goalie is after 2 great goalie games for a change instead of who the worst is.
Paging ....Mr. Bowman.......Paging Mr. Bowman....the coaching seat awaits you
"Trying is the first step towards failure" Homer Simpson
As head coach, Bowman has won a record nine Stanley Cups with the Canadiens (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979), Penguins (1992) and Red Wings (1997, 1998, and 2002).
"Trying is the first step towards failure" Homer Simpson
Bowman is the only head coach in the history of the NHL, Major League Baseball, the National Football League, or the National Basketball Association who has won championships with three different teams.

Didn't see the game live, fortunately. So I'll give my thoughts objectively.
I thought Huet was solid, couldn’t really ask for anything more. The D has driven me crazy for the past few months – too many careless, rushed decisions, especially Seabs.
Did anyone else notice how many shots the flyers blocked?
I’d be stoked to see Sopel never suit up again this season. He’s old, slow and provides little of anything.
Kane needs a day off. He looks tired and disinterested.
This team seems to be running on fumes…

Rest would help the Olympians in particular, in theory
But: Seabs hardly played in the Olympics. Keith has been fine. Toews has been fine. Hossa’s been fine. Kopecky has been, well, Kopecky. And everybody’s just coming off a two week break. I don’t think rest is the problem, then.
