Blackhawks talking to Leafs about Huet (Espn source)
Source: Hawks in talks with Leafs about Huet
NEW YORK -- The Chicago Blackhawks are discussing a trade that would send goaltender Cristobal Huet to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Jeff Finger, according to a league source.
The Hawks also would include at least a draft pick, the source said.
The NHL trade deadline is Thursday.
Discuss.

Sounds like a classic salary dump
Hopefully it means that Bowman has another deal lined up maybe involving Vokoun.
damnitt
i cannot wait for tomorrow. what time is the actual deadline tomorrow??
im going to cozy up next to nice bottle of 12 yr and wake up sometime tomorrow knowing who will be in net during our run to the cup.
"...can i have a glass of whiskey and a slice of bread?"
WTF?
I can’t take this seriously. It makes no sense.
Toronto has Giguere and Gustavsson so why would they want Huet too? Paying almost $12 mil/year for goalies? Yeah, that was fun last year for us, a Category IV Shit-storm for Toronto.
I don’t get it, but that’s probably why I don’t work in a NHL front office.
SCH Resident Idiot
The only Cup we can win is this years
I don't get it either
maybe it is just a crap rumor, but I do remember someone stating that a potential Vokoun trade would need to involve three teams. I can’t see how this is a prelude to that though. But like you said, what do we know?
I am literally scratching my head. Trade away our top goalie (yes I said it) for an insurance D-man? (I don’t know much about Finger, but his stats say “Rockford” to me)
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

cap space
not to mention finger is signed to an abomination of a contract. he’s in year 2 of a 4 year deal that pays him $3.5 million a year. so we’d only be saving $1.9 million by getting right of huet. not exactly a successful salary dump.
In the context of another deal however...
It makes sense. Finger becomes the third-pair veteran defenseman that you lose when Sopel leaves. And it frees up enough space this season to swing a deal for a goalie.
But doesn't that ultimately take up more cap space
to resign some of our other guys in the offseason, as compared to bringing up someone like say Hendry next year? If (big IF?) there’s any validity to this, I don’t like the long term implications, even if it meant getting Vokoun. As I mentioned in my FanPost on this topic, this would be a move motivated by media pressure and ego – two very bad reasons. I’d like to have Vokoun, but not at the cost of our future. We’re good enough without him.

third pair
sopel doesn’t leave after this season. we’d have to trade him. sopel is signed through 2010-2011. bringing finger in would give us a third pairing that makes $5.8 million, or about $500,000 MORE than the barker/sopel pairing that we all thought was too high for this season. i’m with CNS in than the more likely scenario is that next year’s pairing involves hendry.
nothing about this deal makes any sense to either side. as was already mentioned, toronto already has a goalie of the future (the monster) and a mentor goalie at the end of his contract (jsg signed until 2011). they don’t need huet.
and the hawks don’t need finger. he’s not as good as sopel, makes more money and signed for more years.
Jesse Rogers is a hack
How long is it going to take people to realize he doesn’t have any “sources” and it’s all BS.
From Darren Dreger at TSN: “The Leafs say ‘no chance’ to the rumour of Huet to Toronto.”
Not that Dreger’s credentials need to be propped up, but I think he’s actually related to Leafs’ AGM Dave Nonis.

rec'd for making sense
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too."

This is probably a dumb question.
I admit in advance I should probably know the answer to this, but if Vokoun is so great that everyone wants him, why would Florida want to trade him?
I know they’re toward the bottom of the East and will rebuild, but don’t you want to keep your good goaltender as a piece you build around? As we’ve learned, it’s not like they grow on trees. I feel like I’m missing a piece of the puzzle here, so someone please help me out!
they only have him signed for one more year prior to free agency
so he will either leave for a more competitive team or cost them more to re-up when his contract expires.

For the same reason.......
The indians traded cliff lee and CC sabathia
Wait, wrong sport.
"In an ideal world I would have all 10 fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching."
Florida's offense is awful
so they’re looking for some help there. They have a young 23 yr old goalie Salak who shows a lot of promise. He played very well in Finland and the AHL, but got lit up in his 2 games at the NHL level. Maybe they think they have something there.

This trade makes no sense at all
unless there is another deal in the Hawks plans that would bring a good goalie in
Versteeg, Beach, Crawford should get Vokoun
Get it done Stan. Overpay if need beat and get it done. The window to win a Cup is NOW.
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Does this internetz thing really work that way?
Hello, Stan? Hellllooooo? Is this thing on? Oh, Hi Stan. I’d like to order a small frie, a large trade, and some Coke.
On second thought, it’s probably good that is doesn’t…
I’m with ya BLou. But man, you’re grave dancing. We all saw what happened tonight. I’m sure Stan was on the phone before the 2nd intermission, and hopefully if a trade makes sense, he’ll pull the trigger.
I’m gonna make a prediction that might calm some fears. If “The Trade” doesn’t happen, Huet and Niemi will start playing some of their best hockey of the season and finish the year strong (and if all goes well, late) because they won’t have to worry about all this shit anymore. We’ll be “stuck” with them and them with us. The only choice left will be to support them or get the fuck off the wagon. They both looked extremely unfocused tonight and perhaps that has to do with the trade deadline.
