PrintThere's some big doings a-transpirin' today with the trade deadline, the Hawks being welcomed home after the Olympic break (and yesterday's dog-food caliber performance), and our first Bottom Lounge after-party. Here's hoping I can keep up with all of it.
So as we move into our second hour of coverage, there hasn't been a blockbuster to speak of, just a lot of depth defensemen changing hands for picks and prospects (Aaron Ward, Derek Morris, Dennis Seidenberg, Martin Skoula). Throbbing Hockey Brain Scotty Bowman says the Hawks are happy with the goaltending situation, but that could be just misdirection of the media. So far none of the big names (Vokoun, Whitney) have changed hands. Still plenty of time left to go, though. Join us in the comments, won't you.

Hey all
Events may prevent my posting, appearance at game vs. Edmonton Whoevers and at party tonight. It’ll be a good reason for my absence, believe me.
Anywho: anything other than a trade for cap space would disappoint. We need room to resign Seabs and Hammer — that is the Prime Objective. Buff to Carolina/Loafs/other bottom-feeders, for good picks, would do nicely.
(BTW: who out there has picks that haven’t already been spoken for? Anyone know?)

why do i feel like something big is going to happen today to the hawks? all these goalie rumors, buff and steeg….
I actually don't see anything happening with this team.
I don’t think that the players and the amout of money that these players cost will amout for anything. Especially moving lets say Huet and Versteeg and a pick for Vokoun. Panthers are looking to unload money from their roster for next year and adding Huet and Versteeg would make them spend more money then needed…
NOW if a 3rd team gets involved with the trade perhaps this would happen.

Over the past few years, the new regime has made so many deals and big signings that we’ve been conditioned to just assume something big will happen on days like this. I don’t see anything major happening (although I would like to see something).
